i don’t hate swifties. i was a swiftie from taylor’s first single until TLOAS- i was in there in the trenches with them, defending her left and right.

as a result, i was still a swiftie when i began criticizing her. some swifties took my discourse in good faith luckily and we had good discussions and heart to hearts about being disappointed in her actions or inaction (depending on the scenario) but a good chunk began blocking me and flaming me.

since stepping away entirely from the fandom (save for my mutuals) it’s made me realize a lot of swifties do use blind faith and “feminist rage” to try to defend taylor. i won’t even get into details or stances on the wedding, but i will say i’m seeing a lot of swifties finding 0 fault in the whole debacle, which is concerning.

i genuinely wish swifties like that would remember the research & brainpower we once poured into her easter eggs and puzzles and stop immediately assuming taylor is innocent and untouchable. do your research. engage in respectful discourse where you find it (respectfully) and avoid the clear rage bait. most swifties are brilliant! use those beautiful minds!

like at the end of the day, your opinion is your own. but flying off the handle or handwaving with “you don’t treat men like this!” and things of that nature not only feeds into the idea of swifties being a brainwashed cult, but also leaves you uninformed.

it’s okay to criticize your fave. healthy, even! because when you love someone, you hold them accountable, which is what i did for six years before the vitriol of the worst parts of the fandom wore me down and i decided none of it was worth the stress anymore.

idk man. the toxicity is exhausting. we need nuanced conversation around everything and everyone in times like this. i recently had discourse with someone who later came and spoke with me in private and we found we have a lot in common and get along fairly well. we’re all just people with a deep love for our passions, all trying to survive.
