Laura And The "Thingy"

Laura's tummy knotted, her mistakes cost quite a sum of money. But the dreamy young business owner, though displeased with her mistake remained patient as they worked damage control together. 

As they cleaned up afterward, Laura's mind cast around for some benign subject of conversation. She spotted the delivered kitchen utensil set for the dreamy young business owner's recent interest in cooking. 

"What is that thingy for?" Laura absentmindedly pointed to an unfamiliar item. 

The dreamy young business owner – surprised in the middle of a momentary dark thought – responded without his usual tact. "Some say it's perfect for the bottoms of young ladies who make costly mistakes." He was not looking at Laura, and had not realized the little joke he thought he was making was anything but. Unfortunately – or perhaps, ultimately fortunately – he continued. He seized the "thingy" and held it up to her and asked in what he thought was a playful voice "but perhaps not this time, right Laura?" 

Two things happened instantaneously when he met Laura's eyes.

First, immediate embarrassment. He was not funny. He was going to apologize. He immediately withdrew the "thingy."  

Second, dawning recognition. Her eyes clearly spoke words she could never utter. She said "I know I deserve a spanking, you should spank my bottom if it's right, but please don't spank my bottom."

Laura wished she could just disappear. She was trying to keep from bursting into a fresh flood of tears, while residual tears continued to cloud her view of the corner. Unlike other corner times, Laura dreaded her moment of release. She didn't want to face her family. Especially her Dad. 

What Laura was not expecting was how her Dad was looking at his eldest daughter with great pride. He recognized her behavior was inappropriate – perhaps due to jetlag – yet he was quite proud of his daughter's subsequent behavior.  

She had quickly remembered herself when her Husband confronted her. Laura's Dad watched his daughter's obedience as she retrieved The Spanking Stick from her luggage. Despite the drawer remaining closed, Laura made sure to keep her hand as far away as possible from where it now lived. She even felt remote was tainted somehow, having shared a space with it. She was convinced she was silly, she was convinced she was correct. 

Flash forward a short few months, past a wedding and a couple months of marriage. Why is Laura now smiling as she kneels to offer it to her Husband? Is it because she had been wrong about its intended purpose? The memory then closed in Laura's mind.
