Taniel is just shy of being an animal hoarder. I sort of just mentioned this in an ask to Charlie, but it’s pretty likely Taniel isn’t capable of romantic love for a human being, or even any sort of love beyond how one might love a particularly useful house appliance. He’s affectionate and doting to those who’s powers he takes, but this is more because a) Taniel himself likes physical affection and b) they’re useful and you take care of useful things (like giving cars oil changes, cleaning out your refrigerator, etc)

However, he loves animals. It’s a passion that has stuck around since childhood, and while it was pretty evident when he lived on a farm in Iowa and ran his school’s 4h club, it’s even worse now that he is an adult with a house and land and money. I think, because he also has an apartment closer to the city (which city? IDK depends on which verse), he’s probably hired a few hands to take care of the animals back on his land when he’s not around and I’ll do a count of those animals at a later time, but as for his apartment, he’s got:

- His two dogs that we have previously been introduced to, Bozy the irish wolfhound and Prince the pomeranian - a pale apricot colored white belly hedgehog named SANIC. Because Taniel is a gross memelord - a male costa rican stripped knee tarantula named Fred - two female dumbo rats named Diana and Artemis. Diana is all white and Artemis is black and white. - two betta fish, kept across the room from eachother in ten gallon tanks. He only meant to get one and from a breeder, on top of that, but he went into petsmart to get some PH adjuster and bam the sad fish in the sad little cup called to him so he bought another three. Two of them died shortly after of dropsy, which they contracted in their little cups, leaving Jefffffffffffffffff the blue and black plakat, and Leroy, a red and white rosetail. Leroy lives with a few pond snails, unnamed because they’re fucking snails. - a praying mantis named Nancy - a pacman frog named….Pacman - 3 female leopard geckos, all housed together and one male, housed separately. Aisha, Trini, Kimberly, and Jason. - an emperor scorpion he just calls Killer - Currently, there’s one empty 75 gallon take he’s cycling to prepare for a Caribbean dwarf octopus 

So, I know I haven’t actually rp’d in a long time, but I thought since today is National Coming Out Day, I’d take this opportunity to discuss Taniel’s sexual, romantic, and gender identity while I eat my macaroni and cheese on lunch break.

These days, Taniel’s pretty unapologetic about his sexual preferences. Men, women, nonbinary – if he finds somebody attractive, he finds them attractive and will pursue, provided they’re of a certain age and consenting (or as much consent as can be given with Taniel’s level of deceit) That wasn’t necessarily the case as a kid or teenager, however. I don’t think he really experienced any self-loathing and there were plenty of girls his age to pay attention to, but I think he had a hard time keeping his attraction to men to himself – and as a boy in rural Iowa, it would have been necessary to do so. Coming out to his dad in his freshman year of college wasn’t exactly rough – his dad is kind of lowkey homophobic, where he doesn’t hate gays and he doesn’t care about marriage equality, but he does make gay jokes (including slurs) and is uncomfortable around openly gay men. Taniel had been distant with his dad for years, and the strange disconnect of his father’s discomfort with Taniel’s interest in men as well as women quietly caused the two to stop communicating, although it was slow over a period of years.

Taniel’s aromantic but I don’t think he realizes or cares to know. I think, as far as he’s concerned, love is for later – but right now he’s an attractive man in his 30′s with a good job and powers and a plan so his inability to really feel romantic attraction doesn’t seem like an issue to him, or something that needs to be “labeled”.
