David Cleary!
i'm in Ireland and the search for that bastards name is still blocked and hidden... the legnths the british go to defend and protect their instruments of colonialism and violence is beyond belief. no justice for the victims and yet every measure taken to protect David James Cleary and his fellow murderers.
Never a better time for the Streisand Effect than when it's a government covering up acts of brutality and evil.
if you complain about the Chinese government covering up Tianamen Square, then complain about this, too.
It's 8:25AM I gave up on the idea of getting a bed last night. As a result I'm spent the night just walking, hoping I would get flagged as a homeless person and be arrested. I didn't make sales last night during my opening. I'm devastated. I have nowhere near a enough for a room for later when hotels and airbnbs allow check ins.
I need $400 so...I'll let these 22"x 30" go for $400.

This is an awesome use of what is probably a master's degree if not a doctorate and I am 100% thrilled that she shared it even though it was embarrassing and she squeaked.
Thank you, adorable scientist, for making people's lives better.
As an Australian, THIS WOMAN IS A FUCKING GODSEND.
Californian (sup, fellow desert-havers) i've been using this since i saw it and it works so fucken good dude (i often have to put like 8 dogs in my car, so it's extra important my car isn't attempting to go super-nova when we get in)
This is Hannah Fry and she has a PhD in mathematics, and teaches at Cambridge university.
She does a podcast with the vsauce guy called The Rest Is Science and it’s fucking delightful.

The state of TTRPGs if it was video games
“Oh I wanna play a Half-life video game; instead of playing Half-life 1, Blue Shift, Opposing Force, Half-life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal, Portal 2, E:0, or E:02, I’ll just download 10,000 mods for Skyrim until all the draugr are replaced with Combine soldiers.”
dude they have this thing called a rulebook
I watched so many lets plays. None of them installed mario on my computer.
so here we are
The state of TTRPGs if it was video games:
*tries to enforce rulebook*
*gets thoroughly ignored*
*everyone is still having fun with their bullshit while the guy with the rulebook is sitting alone in the corner*
Yeah turns out people don’t like to be told how to play to the point that they will literally develop hacking skills to be able to do whatever random crap they find funny. Which isn’t always the wisest choice, but it’s the one they found fun. Maybe TTRPGs would be more popular if the modding community was more welcome, which, wait, that’s what lead to the 2010s boom of D&D until Wizards decided to start messing with the rules and suddenly everyone stopped caring again. It’s almost like rule lawyering is what puts people off games, huh. D&D didn’t get it’s rebirth as a game, but as a game engine, during the era when Minecraft and Roblox were succeeding by doing the same thing.
Maybe that’s what Tabletop has to learn from Vidya.
You don’t know what “rules lawyering” means, or really what anything you’re saying means, but mostly that one.
You’re looking at the concept of playing by the rules and seeing it as blind obedience instead of literacy.
“D&D had its rebirth as a game engine” is just falling hook, line and sinker for WotC’s marketing. It’s also patently untrue
Even in the game engine metaphor it’s still like trying to make Tetris, Stardew Valley, Total War: Warhammer, the Stanley Parable, Ultima Online, Bass Pro Fishing 2026, whatever you want in Bethesda’s Creation Engine as if you don’t need to put a hat on a guy to have something pretending to be a train. In the manner that any given system is a kind of interpretive analog computer, each one fills the same role as a game engine. But similar you’re not going to want to make a physics puzzle game in the engine that still has identical weird physics bugs to the ones which happened in a game engine that the creators claim to have not upgraded from but entirely stopped using. It’s still tying a glowstick to a hammer and saying it makes for a great flashlight because Home Depot says its valid to do what you want with the things you bought.
URGENT POST: if you have migraines, astigmatism, binocular vision dysfunction, seizures, or any kind of photosensitivity, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR IPHONE TO IOS 26.1. The redesign of the user interface is triggering nausea, migraines, vertigo, and other issues for many many people worldwide, but especially those with the conditions I listed above. I was up all night last night with nausea after using my phone for 30 minutes.
Something about the glass effect they added, plus the redesign of the apps, everything looks blurry and appears to shake. I experience incredible eye strain looking at my Home Screen now and it is making me very physically ill. Don’t even risk it. Hopefully Apple resolves this ASAP. You can contact them about this issue at [email protected].
I’ve fiddled with the settings as much as I can to reduce harm but I’m still getting sick looking at it. My nausea meds didn’t even touch the nausea either. It’s bad, guys.
Link to Reddit post about it. Has some helpful tips for harm reduction in the settings.
If this is still a problem six months later, and seems like it is bc I found a month-old reddit post about it, copy/pasting the commented tip from here:
You’re not alone at all!
Go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Reduce transparency,
back to Accessibility -> Motion -> Reduce Motion.
Those are the two I did at least.
"for reasons that will remain forever opaque to us" lmao
you must read the rulebook
It is ASTOUNDING to me how often this is the answer to any RPG rules question. For any game. It makes me feel like I'm in customer service again. "Did you read the rulebook?" No. of course not.
it bothers me that you often don't really hear about people having a "favorite album" the way they might have a favorite movie or favorite video game
fuck it. reblog this and tell me in the tags what your favorite album is

I have been fucking around with my armour for long enough to have rediscovered the entire journey that Europe went through 1100-1500. I kept adding bits to cover gaps, then realising they were causing problems and adjusting things to not cause problems anymore, and reinventing stuff that they invented in 1400. I gotta put articulation in my hip armour because the design I created is AMAZING for protection (a little bit too amazing, I literally got shot twice in the butt with a ballista and knew NOTHING about it until the siege team told me) but I think I should sometimes be able to sit down in chairs. Now I know why they didn't design it that way.
Which is great experimental archaeology and all, but the latest thing I've rediscovered is that gambesons are actually, like.... necessary.... not because you need the padding (my chestplate does just fine with the foam glued inside it) but because you need arming points. My elbows have to be held up somehow, and every way I've found of attaching them to the shoulder results in reduced arm mobility. If they attach to my sleeve then nothing can go wrong
But I don't want to die of heatstroke. Which I will, if I add a gambeson into my current kit
So I'm contemplating a plan: gambeson mini crop top. I only need enough gambeson to anchor padding under my shoulders and points for my elbows. It needs sleeves, it needs shoulders, it doesn't need to go down further than my armpits. This is going to look like some kind of cursed anime girl outfit item designed purely to create a boob window but I swear this is for science. I have to fuck this up so I can rediscover why they didn't make armour this way in the 1300s
Update:
The reason they didn't design it that way in history is because, if the gambeson doesn't go all the way down your torso, it flips/twists/folds up extremely easily. Like you'll be trying to put your shoulder armour on, and the entire back of your shoulder padding is getting crumpled and folded into a stupid annoying lump at the back of your neck, and you can't reach back there to fix it because.... drumroll... you are wearing shoulder armour. Which restricts your ability to touch the back of your shoulders. Somehow.
If you have a full t-shirt length of gambeson, the weight keeps it flat against your body and you can shrug your shoulders and stuff and it doesn't move around. If you only have it like two inches down your back, one tiny wrong move when you're putting it on and you can spend 20 minutes unstrangling yourself.
I'd say "I do this vital research so that you don't have to" but like.... If you're anything like me, you still have to. Someone else did it before me, and that did not stop me at all.
In other news, I've found an incredible and innovative new way to massively fuck up some weaving by trying to improvise a loom using the slats underneath your bed

there's something so foul and toxic about the "you're all going to leave me one day you might as well do it now" doomposter mindset. like. yes the leaves on the trees may one day die. but even when they do, will you not also appreciate the oranges and reds of their goodbyes? and when the snow comes to follow will you not play in it?
I shared a post from another side about AI here and I just saw someone arguing that we shouldn't use AI to detect cancer cells because "AI will literally destroy humanity". And I'm like. I'm as happy as anyone that so many data centre projects have been cancelled and can't wait for people to stop wrecking everything I use by shoving unnecessary AI into it, but I do not think that you are correct, sir. If we could maybe focus on the real problems instead of falling for the AI investor hype (who want everyone to believe their product is world-destroying dangerous, because that gets more investment for some reason) then maybe we can have more useful conversations.
AI will kill a lot of mostly poor people through normal boring means like resource deprivation (most notably water and electricity), stupid mistakes (vehicle accidents, medication accidents, etc.), and being turned into military technology. It is not part of a Vast Conspiracy to Permanently Destroy Human Critical Thinking, turning us into Mindless Zombies, and then being used to Kill Us All. It's not exciting enough for that. And the solutions aren't exciting culture wars, either; they're long, boring campaigns of politics and legislation, all very monotonous work.
