it's good to be king

Nat turns her head just enough to kiss her palm when Dev’s hand cups her cheek. A lot of people said those things, about never asking someone to give up something that they loved but with Devin, Nat actually knew she was telling the truth. Both of their careers were demanding in different ways, and both of them had such passion for their jobs that they weren’t really jobs… They were the way they lived, what made them who they were. Thinking about Devin not being able to live the way she was born to live… It hurt. She knew how much pain the other must have been in back then; wished she could do something about it even though it was in the past. Nat reached up and wiped away that solo tear. “We are going to get to have everything… Together… Us, you– you are going to be a champion again… My champion… And I am going to keep making the best sets in the country– in the world…” She replied slowly and quietly, a rasp in her voice as she returned the kisses whilst she spoke. “I love you…. With everything I am…  À toi, pour toujours…”

“I didn’t ever want to be anywhere else… I didn’t– I never really slept those nights I’ve stayed away, but I think maybe I needed those nights… To know how much I need this– you,” Natalia explained quietly, her words lacing together with the kisses she planted along Devin’s jawline. She couldn’t be happier than she was at this moment, she was sure of it… This was everything and more. This was just– love. “For making me the happiest woman on this Earth… For– loving me, and my job… You know, it’s– it doesn’t really happen an awful lot that someone can have this and keep dancing too,” Nat gave a half-smile before letting out a gentle sigh as they kiss, her body rolling as an almost moan follows the sigh as Devin’s hands run along her back. Her touch was just… Intoxicating. “You don’t need to put it into words, cheri… I can see it in your eyes when you look at me… I know…”

“you make me the happiest lass on earth.” devin lets out a gentle sigh before they kiss. though she slightly pulls away because of her words. she cups her cheeks and looks into her eyes as she starts to speak. “i would never take away something you love doing from you. i know how much you love performing, even though you don’t say it, i can just see it whenever you’re up there and dance. you are captivating. you don’t need to speak to tell your story. i--wrestlin’s been taken away from me for so long and it’s been the worst feeling in the world. i would not let you experience the same thing i’ve been through years ago.” a single tear slips from her eye and she doesn’t even notice it, leaning close to peck on her lips. “i love you. with all my heart and my soul and everything the gods has given me.”

As soon as Devin smiles, Nat feels her shoulders fall back down, the knots that were forming in her shoulders dissipated and when those three words were whispered back… She was sure this smile was never going to leave her lips. She hummed into the kiss, her arms wrapping tighter around the wrestler as she pushed her hands into her hair. “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it…” She admitted again, head tilting to the side as it always just naturally did whenever Dev went near her neck. Natalia’s eyes drift to Devin’s lips and then back to her eyes as she watches and listens to her talk about adventures and about them… About this being their home. Their home. “Together,” she repeated quietly before kissing her wife. “Thank you….” 

“i haven’t been able to stop thinkin’ about it either....s’why i wanted you to stay in my place a lot....s’why...i just wanted--needed to be close to ya all the time, lass. i never...i never needed someone like this in my life.” devin breathes out, letting her hands travel all over natalia’s upper body. both women are just radiating with so much happiness. her life has turned around ever since the brunette came to her life, and she cannot be away from her anymore. her heart aches whenever she’s not around. whenever she’s not around to stay for the night, the wrestler just couldn’t sleep, not without her in her arms anymore. she kisses her back, slipping her hands under her shirt and running them along her back. “for? baby....i should....i should be the one thanking you. you....you just make me so happy. i can’t--i don’t know how to put it to words...”

Natalia was glad when Dev decided to lead them out of the kitchen and to the bedroom, and when they sat down on the end of the bed. For some reason it just made it a little easier to talk… Perhaps it was nothing to do with where they were, perhaps it was just to do with the fact she could see her, feel her, smell her… It was just… Well, home. That was why she was asking this, why she was taking this leap. Her apartment no longer felt like a home, and whilst she was defintely extremely comfortable financially, she just… Didn’t want to be paying these New York prices for somewhere that just… Wasn’t home. “I…” Where should she even start? She sighed, closing her eyes and pressing her forehead against the redheads for a moment before nodding to herself. “I’ve been thinking about the fact that we… Don’t really use my apartment anymore and– well, we’re married now and I don’t want that to change… I– love you, Dev… I want to really– I want to really do this… Us… A-And, merde, and if you wanted it too I was thinking that maybe I could just– move in? Here? With you? Properly…?” 

a smile immediately forms on devin’s face at natalia’s question. yes, she’s always been at her place, a lot. but it still really didn’t feel official. she’s thought about having sharing her place with the other, yet she didn’t want to pressure her. she wanted the brunette to decide on moving on her own. “i love you too, nat.” she whispers, pulling her close for a brief kiss. “i’ve been waiting for you to ask me that, my queen. i just wanted for ya to able to decide on this yerself.” she nuzzles her face on her neck, taking in her scent. the wrestler was just so happy. she lays the both of them on bed, a raspy laugh leaving her lips. “i cannot imagine the rest of the adventures i’m going to experience without you, lass. i just--life without you is impossible now, i...you can move in, of course. this place....it never really felt like home until you came...until you stayed for the first time. mrs. mcgowan....i...i’m speechless...i’m just...really really happy. we’re going to do this, together.”

Watching Devin work hard over the past month or so has felt like a privilage to Natalia. She had always had this captivating glow and aura about her, and Nat had always been drawn to the fighter but since their return from Florida it was just on another level. There wasn’t an hour that passed that the other woman didn’t enter her mind, even when she was drowning in work herself. Devin was just this constant in her mind, in her life. It felt… Good. She’d never had anyone like this, never had anyone to come back to after a hard night or someone to hold when it was cold. She never thought she wanted it, but now she had it she didn’t want to ever lose it… Didn’t want to lose Devin. “They’re at the wrong gym if they think they can whine their way out of shit,” she chuckled lightly as she was lifted up off her feet. Nat wrapped her legs around Devin’s waist, her arms around her shoulders and nodded a little to her question. “Oui… I just, um… I have a question I’ve been thinking a lot about… I don’t want you to, eh, feel pressured into giving me a answer right now but… I just need to ask it so I can stop thinking about it…”

natalia is a major change in devin’s life, but in a good change kind of way. the redhead used to be always alone ever since she’s entered the industry. yes, she’s had friends along the way, but they were all different from what she’s having with natalia. for her it all started when the brunette stayed for the night for the first time at her place, which  felt like the trigger for them recognizing their very connection other than the physical one. that lead to her asking the other to come to florida with her, eventually that very wedding happened and now...they were just closer than ever. she cannot imagine herself alone anymore, to not have her in her life. “client said i was being hard on him just because i told him to do extra two rounds of burpees for me.” she chuckled. devin was immediately relieved when she told her that everything’s okay. she leads the both of them to her bedroom, making her straddle her lap while she listened to what she was saying. “ya can ask me anythin’, lass. it’s okay. what is it?” she could feel how nervous she is, which made her plant soft kisses on her forehead then to her chest.

Natalia couldn’t get it off her mind. The question was burning into her soul as if it were the brightest light, and she were a creature unable to be touched by it. It had kept her awake last night too, and as soon as Devin left for work she had begun pacing around the apartment trying to figure out what it all meant. Was it too soon? Too fast? Was she coming off too strong? Sure, they were married, but that hadn’t exactly been intentional and there was no rule book for this… There were no instructions. It felt right though… She’d even text Traci to make sure she wasn’t being stupid. Still, hearing her best friend say that she thinks it’s a good idea, that Devin will agree… It didn’t take away the nerves. Fuck, Natalia didn’t get nervous… But, as the door opened she realised how many hours had past and her heart jumped a beat. Still, she smiled through the fear. “Hey baby… Good day?” Nat asked almost shyly.

devin has been having a pretty busy couple of weeks after she came home from florida with natalia. secretly meeting with her management to discuss when exactly she’s going to make her photoshoots for her new renders, if she was going to make major changes for her character for the third time around, if she was going to make a return on a pay-per-view or just to one of their shows.....there has been a lot to discuss. she decided to hold her render photoshoots at her gym in one of the private rooms at the gym, knowing that she could control her privacy there. she didn’t want rumors to spread about her return, she wanted it to be genuine, to be a surprise to the fans. what makes her excited about this though, is she’s going to share that very moment with her wife, that she’s going to be able to watch her live for the first time from the ringside. she just couldn’t wait. even in her trainings it’s in her mind. she was just done with the training earlier than expected because she wanted the spend the rest of the day with natalia before she goes to work tonight. just as she came in the house, she immediately noticed something different with the other. “i did, even though i had to deal with a whiny client today.” she chuckles, before lifting her in her arms and kisses her cheek. “everythin’ alright, lassie?”
