Jacob Anderson talking about the icons that shaped his Louis — Grace Jones & Eartha Kitt (Part ll)
The thing is, right, that overworking yourself is still harmful if you're doing it for politically good reasons. It's not the presence of a Capitalist Boss demanding overwork that makes it bad. It's the other way around, incentivizing overwork, a bad thing, is one of the reasons why capitalism is bad.
Whether you're overworking yourself out of a sense of moral obligation, or because you're super passionate about the thing you're working on, you still have to take care of your health and take breaks.
This is literally one of the most common contributors to burnout.
If the lord ever got attached to a toy, he would never be able to let it go
alright was anybody gonna tell me that Hadestown was a perfect play actually or did I just have to discover that at the movie theater myself

Nobody asked for it, and I did it anyway! Or
I counted all Baldur's Gate 3 resident NPCs so you don't have to
And then I made a whole anthropological study about it Spoiler, I guess, but honestly does it count? (pun intended)
Morgan Harper Nichols’ ‘Let July be July’
Loving reminder
Okay... so this is right up my alley. More weird whimsy and quirk in the romance genre... and more jaded suffer-no-fools women, instead of the creepy age-gaps, please and thank you
I WILL WATCH THE FUCK OUT OF THIS! Monster romance books prepared me for thiissss!
I am always thinking about this slow fucking hockey player with beautiful freckles. And a weak backhand. A weak backhand? Yes, very weak. And, he's so boring and he drives this terrible car! It's a normal car! I am always wishing that these women were him.
HEATED RIVALRY 1.02 | 1.06
never gonna get around to finishing this so everyone can have it anyway !!

We all know this bit from the Jinlan chase right after Binghe has slammed Shen Qingqiu into the wall, of course: "Under the streaming moonlight, Luo Binghe looked even more peerlessly beautiful, as if his silhouette had been carved from ice and jade. He pressed very close, and he spoke with slow deliberation. "After so many years of separation, we meet amidst golden wind and jade dew, yet Shizun incessantly calls someone else's name. That truly saddens this disciple a little.""
And we get the footnote that the bolded line is from a poem about the Cowherd and Weaver Girl, right. Let's forget for a moment that Shen Qingqiu has his "Binghe is so hot" moment right after being chased down and slammed into a wall. Let's look at Binghe. Binghe, who just slammed Shen Qingqiu into a wall and is now quoting from a poem about separated lovers meeting.
Here's the poem by the way, by Qin Guan: Through the varying shapes of the delicate clouds, the sad message of the shooting stars, a silent journey across the Milky Way. One meeting of the Cowherd and Weaver amidst the golden autumn wind and jade-glistening dew, eclipses the countless meetings in the mundane world. The feelings soft as water, the ecstatic moment unreal as a dream, how can one have the heart to go back on the bridge made of magpies? If the two hearts are united forever, why do the two persons need to stay together—day after day, night after night?
I suppose we can forgive Shen Qingqiu for not even giving us an assumption of Binghe using that line sarcastically, because he's having a stressful day and an even more stressful night. But I sure wish he would've put any attention on it! Your disciple is quoting romantic poetry at you!! Also, Luo Binghe is bold as fuck, just straight up quoting from a poem like this, even if it's from a less "obviously" romantic line.
It's still from a poem about separated lovers meeting.
(Imagine him quoting this for himself to Shen Qingqiu's corpse during those five years... hoping for that reunion with the person who's so far away...)
i'm in agony, SOMEbody please help me remember what the childhood book series was that centered around critters that looked like this:
IM IN HELL WHAT WAS IT
Little Critter?
THATS THE BITCH
alright smart-aleks, what about THIS one huh?? the dude had a really cool shading technique where he just swirled (colored pencil?) around??
Parts :)
YOU GUYS ARE TOO GOOD AT THIS WHAT THE HELL
ok my partner wanted in on this, I have no idea what this is
I GOT YOU
i'm never leaving this fucking site i stg i love you all.
OK
final one
for all the marbles,
this one doesn't have an illustration bc i think it was just a kids novel but i haven't been able to find ANYTHING about it on my occasional internet queries:
kids is staying with his (grandmother?) in the woods and she warns him not to look a fox in the eyes bc they're tricksy and will swap places with you. obviously that's the first thing the little boy does and gets body snatched by a fox who uhhhh proceeds to pig out with his new little boy human hands and the boy has to trick the fox into looking him in the eyes again to switch back...
thats all i got, it's an older book i wanna say from the 60's?? 70's?? kinda the same jist of "Little Rascal"
perhaps this?
A DECADE OF SEARCHING THANK YOU @dyketennant IM ORDERING THIS IMMEDIATELY
ok i lied i'm back bc this is fun and i get to share some of my most deeply cherished childhood books with you all
i cannot express how much these are from memory, that's how internalized these artists and writers have become, they're a part of me now
The first one looks like The Spider and the Fly, though the poses are a bit different.
The second one is likely Stellaluna.
I’m not sure about the third one, I will keep searching.
I think I found the third one, though I’m the least confident about this one. Is it Creature Tech?
Unfortunately it doesn’t have a praying mantis on the cover :(
Oh baby, I’m for sure investing early on this one! In sub-500?! I’m betting the farm - This is my retirement plan!
Also, if any of you childhood media geniuses remember the chapter book about a family cat that gets left behind at the vacation beach house and has to fend for itself, you should let me know what it is! I think the cat met another cat that had a broken leg that had healed without being set correctly. 😽
@chazporkloin you may be thinking of Princess by Carolyn Lane?
every so often i remember how awesome the modern interconnected multicultural world is. i grew up getting to hear fairy tales from all over the world. africa, asia, europe, america. everywhere in between. i can have bagels for breakfast, curry for lunch, and ramen for dinner without even leaving the city limits. music and art and philosophy and technology that originated thousands of miles and years apart from eachother have come together and interwoven into something greater than the sum of its parts. its hard not fall into despair when thinking about the horrors but god. god the wonders.
you can have friends on the other side of the planet! neither of you even has to travel!!!!! you can just talk to them whenever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
your assigned ilya of the day just wants to know if you like girls, is simple question, yes?
ok I think y’all are ready to see transgender Frankenstein’s monster I did for class

was in goodwill men's clothing section earlier today and reflecting on how i feel like i flunked out of Normal Trans Guy School as a teenager in that i never wanted to use the boy's bathroom or locker room because the idea of being a very small very GNC very obviously trans guy after already being weird amongst girls seemed like hell, and while i had some men's clothing in general i found a lot of my options in that section extremely boring and didn't feel right on multiple levels.
it was just a kind of strange experience. having been out as queer since i was in 5th grade i had the experience of growing up as an out queer/trans kid, but not in a congruent "i was a girl but now i'm a boy!" kinda way. i did not do Being A Girl Well at all, not even in the aspects (like makeup) where i did genuinely try. it was very clear i would also not do Being A Boy well either. at the same time i did want gender recognition, as an androgyne (even though i was really struggling with my gender because of all the exorsexist shit i was seeing in online queer spaces around "contradictory" and "MOGAI hell" identities, which were the only ones that actually captured what its like being an androgyne) i did feel like a boy and a girl in certain ways. but not ones that were reflected back to me as socially meaningful or real.
this is just some rambling to share this experience with others, but i guess the core of this is that being nonbinary/genderqueer/gnc is a very strange experience and even within trans contexts it felt like i was doing something wrong you know? like you are a jagged piece of glass that fucks up the whole mosaic no matter where you try to squeeze yourself. there's a reason i consider myself transmasc and transfem & i feel like a lot of people who defend afab transfems/amab transmascs focus exclusively on being intersex as a reason people can feel that way, but people always seem to underestimate the experience of being nb/gq/gnc and truly being like. well i can't be the gender people expect me to be right because i can't be cis about it, i can't be the "opposite" gender" right because i can't be binary about, but also even in "accepting" spaces there is no real non-binary existence, and especially not for those of us who are actively both and not just neither. its such an experience that is hard to describe to people. anyways i actually did find some pretty clothes in the goodwill men's section by the grace of transgender god
