As an Indigenous person, it continues to astound me that there are such strict laws (written by White people) in our name, laws against...picking up things just found on the ground. Like, stop pretending this is "for" us. We don't want this.

so, for clarity, that's not what this is. the law against possessing feathers is an anti-poaching measure, derived from a North American treaty protecting certain migratory bird species from hunting. that treaty has an exemption for indigenous people to allow tribes that use eagle feathers in ceremonial or religious practices to continue doing so.

it's truly insane how much more functional society would be and how much happier everyone would be if every job was perpetually 10% overstaffed (and people who weren't needed could chill and rotate in when needed while still getting paid) instead of 10-50% understaffed but that wouldn't be 'efficient' (in the short term, for shareholders) so fuck everyone I guess

i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.

i really need to shake some people and say “being passive in every situation does not mean you are not making active choices and it does not absolve you from harming others. consistently choosing to do nothing in every situation and believing that you couldn’t have possibly been the problem because you chose inaction and not a more agressive approach can in fact also be harmful.” because this keeps happening and its driving me nuts

I think cis women should be allowed to get top surgery even if its not for a medical reason like breast reduction or cancer. I think they should be able to get it even if they're completely cisgender. Some women are just sick of dealing with them and would be much much happier never needing to wear a bra again

I’m so sick of everything having a pop up. You go to website and before you click anything, there's a pop up asking for your email. There's a pop up asking you to share your location. There's something about a discount. A pop up about signing in. Every time I go to pay my credit card in the app, there's a pop up about getting a car loan and you can't click, don't show me this again. You can only click you're not interested right now.

Truly I hate the fact that if you’ve got memory problems people just assume you’re dumb. Like sure it’s great to be able to list off perfectly memorised bullet points at a moment’s notice, but I don’t really think that’s an adequate way of assessing that person’s learning. That doesn’t tell me you’re knowledgeable on the subject, it tells me you’re really good at dot points & flash cards. Can you define them in your own words? You can remember them but do you understand them?

If your fun is ruined by people pointing out the racism in the community you should consider why your fun depends on them being silent about the racism in the community.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

for ppl thinking "But what if I don't know what to comment!" do a live reaction. open a second tab and whenever you have A Reaction™️ to a line or scene, copy the line and type out your reaction, even just a keyboard smash or "this made me forget to breathe" or just "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" works! just any way to let them know how you felt reading it, I don't do it all the time but whenever I do, I get replies from authors being SO happy for a multitude of reasons, and if that's too time consuming just comment ur general feeling about the chapter!! we love it no matter how small the comment i PROMISE

if you, like me, are hesitant to enjoy what kinda sounds like "relaxes food standards" on the surface, I'm happy to report that this isn't "everyone can do what they want with your food supply without oversight" but rather a case where in NYC you had to have a permit to sell food and a second, superfluous permit to sell frozen desserts. This action simply removes the need for the second permit, rolling it into the first permit in order to help small businesses. Yay!

I think that part of what irks me about AI being used even for "small" stuff like meme graphics (aside from all the larger problems obviously) is like.... the time spent on it was part of the humor. "this is a silly inconsequential joke but I had to stop everything and spend 5 minutes making it" was, at least for me, part of the joke. Someone really took time out of their day to make me look at something silly they took time out of their day to make. Now it's like someone took time out of my day to make me look at something no one even made. Stop wasting my time if you aren't wasting yours too.
