Did you know that black cats have the lowest adoption rate and the highest euthanasia rate? We think that’s pretty sad, so we’ve brought one of our own fosters - Cliff - here to tell you why he’d be a great addition to your family on National Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Philadelphia, PA (August 11, 2015): On Thursday, August 20 from 6pm-9pm, at Kildare’s Irish Pub (4117 Main Street, Philadelphia, 19127) Clare and Steve Morrison (co-host of WMMR’s Preston & Steve Show), along with the Cat Shack Animal Rescue Organization will be hosting the official kick off of the Mac Fund @ The Cat Shack Animal Rescue.

The event will give attendees an opportunity to mingle with local celebrities such as Marilyn Russell morning host at 95.7 BEN-FM as well as Steve Morrison from WMMR’s Preston and Steve show.  Along with great food, beer, wine and soda (included in the price of the ticket), there will also be great raffle prizes which include a basket from Dogs and Cats Rule, a $100 gift certificate to Winnie’s Le Bus,  and a four pack of yoga classes from Yoga on Ridge to name a few.   Looking for more of a once -in -a- life time experience? In collaboration with Clare and Steve Morrison, The Cat Shack has established the Mac Fund, in memory of Clare’s beloved cat Mac.  The foundation’s sole purpose is to effectively implement TNR (trap, neuter, replace) programs in the greater Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley areas.  With the money raised through this fund, many uncontrolled and unsafe colonies of cats will be stabilized and the lives of the cats greatly improved.  The resulting reduction in animal cruelty and unnecessary euthanasia will directly benefit all Philadelphia animals and the entire community.

Who’s white and black with a long thin tail that’s topped by a brushy black switch? Gentle and gentlemanly Gizmo. Once lost and then found, his back story a mystery, this black and white beauty was obviously once greatly loved. Why? Because he’s the sweetest and most loving of kitty cats. He LOVES people, loves to chitty chat in cat lingo, and loves the company of other cats. Although not especially fond of the dogs he’s met, given the proper time and polite introductions, he might change his mind. Now on the prowl for his forever home, Gizmo hopes to find one with a comfy cozy bed and another cat or two for company.

Stretched out luxuriously in her cat-rainbow coat of many colors, Felicia fixes you with her famous come-hither stare. Found on a frigid winter day resourcefully feasting on birdseed from beneath a feeder, she has been happily thriving in the warmth of her foster home. Friendly and loving, with a clear independent streak, her preferred source of attention is her foster mom, to whom she eagerly runs for petting and affection. Not overly fond of being picked up, given time, and providing the choice is hers, she may become a lap cat after all! Surrounded as she is by other cats, Felicia would much prefer to be some special someone’s one and only. Now on the prowl for her forever home, this sometimes finicky feline graciously insists it be an adult only one.

The Cat Shack Inc, a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer, no-kill cat rescue organization is seeking outgoing, reliable, dedicated, animal-loving people to assist with answering calls to the Cat Shack phone line. This volunteer opportunity can be completed in the comfort of your own home by simply returning calls using your own phone. You must be comfortable speaking to people over the phone.

Phone volunteers save lives by assisting potential adopters in locating the perfect companion and by assisting callers to our help-line find the resources they need.

Posed as one part of this artistically arranged trio is sultry sweetheart Lucy in stripes of silvery gray. With her hypnotic gray-green eyes, this temptress thrives on attention, curling up for cuddles and purrs on your lap and planting tiny kisses on your face. The happiest of kittens, Lucy even pads about purring prettily to herself. She gets along wonderfully well with the three cats and small dog in her foster home and is the first to greet her humans when they come home. Extremely energetic and active, she’s obsessed with her kitty tunnel and jingle balls, and her best forever home will be as active as she is -- preferably with another playful kitten or young cat for companionship.

To look at lovely Lucy is to fall in love with lovely Lucy. With her pink-tipped nose and eyes like satin saucers, she is one very kiss-able and keep-able kitten. A dainty little Miss – or make that princess, please – she’s as sweet as she is small and is destined to develop into a breathtaking black and white beauty. One of a litter of adorable lovables, Lucy thrives on playtime with her brothers and sisters, then asserts herself by boldly setting off in search of her own adventures. Clever and quick to learn, she loves being with and playing with people of all ages, and particularly enjoys taking long, snuggly naps on any and all inviting laps. All luscious little Lucy needs now to make her kitten to cat years complete is a loving home with all the laps she could ever want.

Looking like the cat that got the cream, this black beauty with just enough white to make her a head turner, is the picture of pussycat purr-fection. Very loving and extremely affectionate, Oreo (like the legendary black and white cookie) can be luscious lap cat one minute and playful puss-in-white-boots the next. Sadly surrendered to us due to severe family allergies, she loves being wherever her foster mom is, and one of her favorite pastimes is licking her on the chin and nose, as if grooming her. Although Oreo grew up as an only cat, she gets along very well with the other cats in her foster home and has happily joined their kitty clique. She does NOT get along with dogs, however, having never interacted with any before, and will either run or confront them if she feels cornered. She also has a tendency to smack at hands as if they were toys, a habit her foster mom’s slowly been breaking.

Outstanding Oreo is spayed, FelV/FIV negative, litter box trained, and up to date on vaccines, and to fulfil her feline dream of happily every after, is looking for an openhearted home with a seasoned cat owner to polish her to perfection while being openly adored in return.

In his vanilla coat topped by caramel, Lou Lou looks like a large, sugary kitty treat that’s good enough to eat. Not surprisingly, he’s just as sweet as he looks. And active too. VERY active. Having survived near starvation and dehydration, severe bodily injuries, and surgery for an intestinal blockage, he may have used up one of his nine lives, but who’s counting? With at least eight lives left, he plans to live each one to the fullest by making up for lost time. Now at his ideal weight and the picture of good health, lively Lou Lou loves to prove just how fit he is by running everywhere at full speed. He’ll even walk around with a ball in his mouth and sometimes play fetch (are we certain he’s not a dog?), and when he’s done with playing, he’ll curl up contentedly next to his foster mom for some quality loving. Because of his past starvation, Lou Lou will, on occasion, attempt to eat and potentially swallow small objects like plastic or rubber toys, which must, therefore, be kept out of sight. And because of his high level of energy, he MUST go to a home with a fellow feline as feisty and active as he is. What fun! Lovable Lou Lou is neutered, FelV/FIV negative, litter box trained, and up to date on vaccines. Now all he needs is that purr-fect forever home where he can spend the rest of his many lives.

Curled comfortably in their elaborate cat trees, facing one another, their body language says it all: we belong together. Lovely Lotus is like a great gray cat cushion frosted in white, while Bullet is stylish in his kitty coat of gray and black pinstripes. Born into a large colony of cats, both were mere kittens when, as part of a TNR project, they were, instead, placed in a foster home. And there, to the astonishment of those who know and love them, they remain. Now, nearly 5 years old, they have posted this purr-sonal ad: “Bonded pair of paws-itively loving and lovable felines seeks their fur-ever home. Sweet and gentle, we get along well with the other cats in our foster home, but we much prefer each other’s company -- playing, eating and sleeping together. Spayed/neutered, FelV/FIV negative, and litter box trained, we may be shy at first in our new, preferably calm, surroundings, but within days, just watch us shine! Won’t you please make us yours always? Meow.”
