I am heartbroken.
You should be here. You should be rubbing your face on my face for your lunchtime snack, and jumping up onto my shoulder when I’m in meetings. You should be curled up in your bed in the afternoons. You should be waiting on the shower mat to rub your little body against my warm legs, doing figure eights until you’re satisfied and damp.
You should be in a blanket tent under our knees on the couch.
You should be enjoying little bits of bread and butter because you are like your namesake and we spoiled you.
You were the smartest boy. The lightly toasted marshmallow. Our baby man. Simon Snow.
It stopped feeling like real life and I don’t know if it will ever feel like that again. You should still be here.
