Everyone keeps talking about it and I’m kind of sitting here just really wishing that it won’t happen that way.

Not because I have anything particularly against him being a fallen angel or whatever (Okay, I do a little bit but I’ll get to that in a bit) but because I just don’t see how it makes that much sense show-wise.

Yes, we’re never seen his eyes change and Mark, troll that he is, likes to point that out a lot. Except that’s the only thing that would point to him not being a demon.

There’s the Enochian sigils covering the places he is living in both in 5x10 and 6x01. Perhaps they can be tailored to allow a certain angel in but nothing has pointed to that before. If possible, that would’ve been handy when they were trying to hide from other angels but not Castiel.

Then you have the fact that he’s been in the presence of angels before, including an archangel, and they never once assumed he was anything but a demon. I suppose it’s possible he is masking himself but that would take a lot of power. Also, other demons seem to be able to sense angels (the demon back in season four; she didn’t know what it was, just that it was wrong) and he’s been around powerful demons like Lilith.

Also. His son. I mean, they literally summoned his son and dug up his bones and while it could be some elaborate ruse that just seems a little far-fetched.  For me, that would be the hardest thing to reconcile if he turns out to be an angel.

And mostly.

I just like the thought of this tortured soul, fallen from his humanity, climbing his way to the top.

Unless they gave him a really awesome backstory as an angel, I think it would just detract from his character.
