I’m still using hashtags, I’m still living for approval from virtual people, and I’ve barely started thinking for myself.Â
I drink single origin coffee at my local cafe, I’m what some people call a snob. Pretentious? Taking it too far. I have a beautiful girlfriend who loves me for who I am (mistakes included); and I’m still living with my parents. Did I mention I was 24?Â
I took a year off of school because I had a kidney transplant 6 years ago - college wasn’t on the top of my list in high school. Art was my passion; painting, photography, poetry, you name it.Â
Now I read Nabokov and don’t understand half of it. I want to re-read Harry Potter because I think it transcends time. Maybe I’ll throw in some Tolkien too. College is enlightening to say the least.Â
I have a stereotypical millennial job - which means I work off my laptop for companies and post things I would post personally. I run the show. Or I like to think I do.Â
Friends are hard to come by; good friends are unicorns. Money comes, money goes. Experiences last a lifetime though, right?
I want to start my life at Z, when I’m barely getting past A to B. It’s a process.Â
I’m not really white, yet I’m not really brown. I’m something in between. The duality that is my life is comical at best, and at worst, boring. Nothing says mixed child like walking into Intercultural Communication and being asked, “where are you really from, though?”Â
I guess the way I look outwardly defines who I am socially. What a construct.Â
It’s 2016. I’m getting older. So is the wine, but that’s okay. Because there’s that old saying, “like a fine wine.” Right? Well I’d like to think so.Â
So here’s to the rest of 2016.
