The barefoot kid

I don’t forget the things you and I once did.  I don’t forget the times when you made me feel invincible. I don’t forget how you taught me to chase the things I dreamt about. 

I miss the times when you told me my beauty never compared. I miss the times you pinky promised our souls and hearts were forever. I miss the times when it felt like we were the only two people in the world. 

I remember feeling like I was losing myself. I remember feeling you slip away because loving me became a chore. I remember feeling the weight of my sinking heart as I mustered the courage to say goodbye to you.

There was a lesson to be learned, a heart to be broken.  There was lust but there was sadness, not a love to be pursued.
