I have some personal anecdotes too:

I knew a guy who tried to kill himself in front of his ex THREE times before he succeeded by killing himself on her lawn with her children inside the house.

My uncle shot himself in the chest knowing his eleven year old son would likely be the one to find him. It was only because my aunt decided to bring him home a hot lunch on her work break that she found him instead.

I had to call 911 because a guy in my neighborhood tried to slit his throat in front of his girlfriend when she tried to break up with him, and when it didn't work, he fled their house bc she called 911 for medical assistance and in fear for her own safety. He was pacing around in front of my house, covered in blood and gripping a knife.
