The Night Bringer

“You have dug your soul out of the dark, you have fought to be here; do not go back to what buried you.”

Life is short, right? We both know that. Well, what if you’re my chance? What if you are the thing that’s actually going to make me happiest?

It’s mortifying to be the one who remembers.

I want to talk about what happened without mentioning how much it hurt. There has to be a way. To care for the wounds without reopening them. To name the pain without inviting it back into me.

There are many things I don’t know, but quite a few I do. I know you can’t be lost if you know where you are. I know that life is full of precious and fragile things, and not all of them are pretty. I know that the sun follows the moon and makes days, one after another. Time passes. The world turns, and we turn with it, and though we can never go back to the beginning, sometimes, we can start again.
