"Are you SURE that cricket cup is empty?!" Switched the light on for a moment to take the photo, Lotte is still on the door.
She's here!!!
She's such a hoot. I had to bait her back into the enclosure. Sorry it's a little dark, they get fed in the evening after their UVB switches off.

I was shocked by the lack of poison dart frog stuff on this site, so here’s a video I made of my pet frog eating.
As a PSA: poison dart frogs make FANTASTIC pets. They’re low maintenance, gorgeous creatures who are fascinating to watch. They also up your badass factor by like a thousand points and take less work than a goldfish.
For anyone worried about the “poison” part of poison dart frog, these species of frogs get their poison from the food they eat! In captivity they are fed things like crickets and flightless fruit flies which render them harmless.
Wild caught specimens can hold on to their toxicity for quite a while, so care must be taken when handling those.
More toe tapping
Wait, why do they do that? I’ve noticed the twitchy toes on other dart frogs before but I’ve never known why they do it…
There’s a few theories as to why darts do it. The one that makes the most sense is to scare up food hiding under dry leaf litter. Other theories are it’s like a dog’s tail wagging showing contentment. It’s used to distract bugs while they eat. Or it’s a sign they’re going to jump soon. Regardless they’re all theories and the reason is relatively unknown.
Exactly. I’ve heard from other hobbyists among the lines of either scaring food into moving (so the frog can see and catch it better), caudal luring, excitement, even that the movement is caused by an increase in pulse and blood pressure.
I do notice the fruit flies often take a dive underneath the leaves when they get the chance, and that my darts often hang around the edge of a leaf and keep tapping their toes looking around, so there’s strong evidence to suggest the ‘scaring up food’ theory...
... but at the end of the day, It Is A Mystery
