This illustration is inspired by the girl I saw learning how to ride a motorbike in my neighbourhood. I looked around to find other women pushing the boundaries to claim these small moments of freedom and also came across the amazing photographs of Moroccan women by Hassan Hajjaj. With the help of friends and family, the biker girl was blown up to 11ft and pasted onto a wall in Lahore- I was curious about the reactions she’d get- only the next day we found that she had disappeared. Her being taken down has opened up new questions about street art in Pakistan and ultimately about how women are seen in public- and I’m now excited to do a series!
