The benefit to saying the meeting happened even if it didn’t is that it took the loss of H’s case against DM and the pill popping episode off the front pages. Charles would want that gone because the whole sordid affair reflects badly on him. And having the “ill old man meets grandchildren” scenario is more palatable than the alternative headlines for him. Ironically Charles is now the one using the grandchildren as shields IMO.

No UK government needs to do anything to increase republican sentiment when the monarch himself is doing such a fine job of it.

I agree with you about Meghan not being in the UK. If she had been there, we would have heard about it by now, via articles or social media posts from random fans/people who saw her. Meghan being in the UK and not releasing one article about it is unprecedented. There is always someone (real or fake) to say they saw her and how wonderful she was etc.

look, I'm not saying that Charles is doing everything right and he should be blasted for not working during the summer as well but I'm worried that if William's not doing summer engagements now, he will not do it when he's king just because "he's never done them before" and that will carry over to his kids.
