The Bradshacalypse

Here’s more concept art for my story idea Shadows of Wiccumshire, specifically of a certain location therein called the Curling Peaks, a range of surreal mountains whose summits bend and curl into whimsical spirals (and which may or may not be directly inspired by a particular stop-motion film). Here, the young witch Helrynega and her living-word companion Logus rest atop one of these peaks, looking out over the River Wiccaster that winds beneath them as the sun sets on the horizon. 

I want to do more concept art pieces of particular locations in the story to help better flesh out the world of Wiccumshire, not only for you the (potential) audience, but for myself also, as most of these places are just vague, foggy images in my head that need some serious refinement. 

Here’s some concept art (that’s actually not just another character pinup for once) for my story idea Shadows of Wiccumshire. 

Here we have Helrynega and her language elemental companion Logus hiding behind a tree(?), away from some... thing stalking them deep in the heart of a cursed forest. 

Again, like my previous drawing, I experimented with using deep shadows to better capture the mood of the story. It might even be just a tad too dark (depending on your monitor’s settings, of course), but as long as you can make out the primary and secondary focal points even just barely (Helrynega/Logus, the tree’s face, and the eye of the stalker in the background) then I succeeded in what I set out to do. 

Even more sprites for my hypothetical game The Voyage of Kiki Banana, this time very rudimentary jumping sprites. 

I’ve decided to change the style of gameplay to something more along the lines of Zelda II (side-scrolling areas connected by a top-down overworld) rather than my original idea of using more of a StarTropics style (top-down platforming areas connected by a top-down overworld), simply because I couldn’t for the life of me find a decent top-down 2D tutorial for Unreal Engine, but found a plethora of 2D platformer tutorials.

Here’s an updated redesign of a character I came up with a while back. Her name’s not quite decided, but for now I call her Bree McFay, the daughter of a Pictish warrior from a story idea of mine called Voice o’ the Fae. Originally I wanted it to be a video game, but now I’m thinking it’d make for a better comic miniseries of some kind. 

The plot, in a nutshell, is basically her teaming up with a Pooka spirit to save a Celtic-style Fairyland from a demonic fairy queen and her minions. Obviously there’s more to it, but that’s all I’m revealing for now until I decide to actually bring the thing into existence. As of now, though, I have no immediate intentions on doing that. But maybe I will tomorrow, who knows? I sure as hell don’t half the time. 

Just a quick little sketch of Link from the classic NES Legend of Zelda (definitely one of my favorite iterations of him). 

Here’s right and left walking cycles for my goofy pirate girl character Kiki Banana. Notice I didn't just flip one to get the other; I modified it to match, such as the arrangement of the buttons on her vest and the highlights on her eyes and jewelry. I may be lazy, but I’m not that lazy. 

Well, looks like I've got the bare minimum graphics to make her into a movable character in a game engine. Now to watch a ton of tutorials and see if I can make that happen.

All I have to do now is a left or right walking cycle (and just flip it for the other side) and I’ll have the absolute bare minimum to work with as far as plugging it into a game engine and seeing how it looks. Should be interesting.

Here’s an animated sprite of my goofy pirate girl character Kiki Banana for a hypothetical game, working title being The Voyage of Kiki Banana - something of an open world StarTropics-like with RPG, Point-and-Click, and Visual Novel elements thrown in for good measure. As for the plot, I haven’t decided yet. It could be just about anything, as long as it’s bat-shit insane. 

And no, this isn’t some serious project of mine, just something I think would be fun to work on whenever I get the chance. I’ve always wanted to make video games, but I just lack the left-brain fortitude to comprehend code. Oh well, maybe someday... 

And no, this isn’t just some isolated coincidence, either. I’ve noticed this pattern before several times, this is just the most extreme I’ve seen it thus far.
