a number of papers tucked beneath her arm are quickly tucked away into her purse, disparaged of necessity as her eyes cast over newt scamander. all and nothing had changed since their last meeting, he seemed to have not aged a day in their months apart, her memory seemingly serving as a reliable source.
a smile plays across her lips – the sense of a giddy teenager rushing through her as she resists the blush rising to her cheeks. “ i’ve been following your interviews. ” she explains, the beam not fading from her face. “ there’s been quite the excitement surrounding your book, newt. ” she says, making no effort to hide her PRIDE.
“ i’m sure you’ve heard that things have been busy. the whole wizarding world seems to know about this catastrophe and macusa’s efforts to sweep it under the rug. security breaches, graves is missing — they think he’s dead, or WORSE. ” she is slightly troubled by her words as she explains, only given away by a light furrowing of her brows, washed into her expression. “ picquery is anxious that this is only the beginning of something worse. we’ve been – busy. ” she eventually concludes, there are few other ways to explain it.
“ you look well,” she comments, looking to her feet hesitantly before her eyes meet his again. “ it’s never a bad time for you to visit. ”
Newt’s cheeks flushed and his nose crinkled a he bridge when she said
she’d been following the interviews. He wasn’t terribly good at them, and
the Daily Prophet had misquoted him shockingly, he never did this for fame,
but it was to be expected apparently. He was just happy to do what he could
to protect the creatures. Professor Dumbledore was even talking about
introducing his book on the list of essential books for first years at Hogwarts.
Newt hadn’t forgotten the events. He felt slightly guilty now that he hadn’t
been around to help more; the whole catastrophe was his fault after all.
“Do they still have Mr. Grindlewald?” He asked, nodding his head towards
the building behind her on the word ‘they’. “Perhaps I can speak to the
Ministry. Stay here for a bit and... help.” He wasn’t entirely confident he
would be of any assistance, he was only a magizoologist after all (and if
the Madam President saw him with his case, he wouldn’t be surprised if
she ordered him back to England), but it could’ve quite easily have been
an excuse to stay and spend more time with her.
A tender smile appeared on his face as she shifted, “You look well too.”
he echoed, nodding his head as if to confirm his statement further, “I--”
he cut himself short, realising that he was going to say that he had missed
her, but shyness took over and he changed it to “-- brought you something.”
as he pulled the package out of his pocket, wrapped carefully in mustard
yellow paper that matched his waistcoat, and tied up with white string in a
neat little bow. "As promised.”
