Canon divergence from Heated Rivalry but The Long Game still happens the only thing that's different is that Shane calls Ilya baby consistently from cottage onwards

Ilya starts his MLH career with a few goals. To score 50 goals his rookie season. To win a cup. To pull that adorable Canadian who he met at World Juniors. I think he had one more: I think Ilya really, really wanted to be in an Old Spice commercial. He saw the Old Spice man and thought "that should be me". And once he's won a cup and officially pulled Shane Hollander and all that, he's able to turn his attention to this more fully. One day he posts on social media about how there's a dream he's had since he first became a professional hockey player, that with all the things he's accomplished in his career he's still wanted to do, all this sentimental stuff. And it's a fucking Old Spice commercial where he like, fights a bear or something. Shane has a screencap from the ad as his phone lock screen for the next year.

shane would "he asked for no pickles." and ilya would love it. not because he can't stand up for himself or any of that (he most certainly can; hes the worlds most brash and obnoxiously confident man <3) but because no one's ever stood up for him before. obvi its small scale and over a mistake, but ilya eats it up every time. and shane loves it bc he loves to take care of his baby even if they both know ilya is more than capable of doing this himself

Thinking about Shane standing in his closet talking with Ilya who is sitting on the bed on his phone and asking him to pick between shirts . Holding up two shirts and Ilya teasing him for how similiar they are and then just. They both have to take a beat. have to pause and step away from this moment as this kind of domesticity hits them both in the solar plexus. Bc they can see it happening again and again and again for the rest of their lives. That’s the dream and they’re starting to live it. It’s just another thing they never thought they’d get and now they’re living it. And obviously the lighter blue shirt Shanya, obviously.
