âWhat happened to you?!â
âI thought I saw someone from my past, and I tripped down a hill when I was at the academy ruins.â Thatcher rubbed his forehead, blood streaking across his face. Thatcher couldnât exactly figure out how to explain what he thought he saw to Bella. He was sure he would sound crazy. Besides, he didnât want to worry her. He smiled up at her.Â
âLet me give you a fair warning. Wear hiking shoes, and donât run in the rain. Even if you think someone is chasing you.â

Thatcher stared at the cat in her arms, so cute and sweet. It fit Bella. They looked like great friends. He didnât know where to sit, so he stood there and stared. There were a hundred things he wanted to say. But Thatcher didnât know where to begin. How could he?
âI hope Iâm just seeing things. I really want it to be nothing more. I justâŚcanât get it out of my head. Seeing her there was awful.â He took a deep shuddering breath. Thatcher shook his head and tried to focus on something more pleasant. Instead, he decided to reach out and give Blake a pat on the head. He hadnât met her before.
Bella patted the space on the couch next to her after he patted Blake. âVictoriaâs gonna be upset that you smell like another cat.â She joked a little, âYeah Blake? Your too cute for people to resist.â She kissed the top of the catâs head, earning a small âmewâ from the cat.
âDo you want to stay over for the night? Itâs not easy to sneak up on me andâŚâ She paused for a second, âWell, now that Kaoruâs gone, I have a spare room and lots of blankets. You could even bring Victoria over if you wantedâ
Thatcher watched the two together, remembering his first days with Victoria. Back when she could still fit on the palm of his hand. He sat beside Bella. âSheâs pretty understanding,â he said. âSheâs been upset lately, so I think sheâll let me off easy.â Sheâd been upset because of him. His inability to sit down or sleep very long had driven Victoria to desperate measures to try and perk him up.
âI...I would like that a lot, if you wouldnât mind. Victoria loves sleepovers, and I can just sleep on the couch or the floor if thatâs easier.â
