Damon was wandering once more. He had long abandoned Stefan, needing a change and to get away after Lexie had basically told him that he was the reason Stefan couldn't control himself. As if it was him! He was the reason Stefan hadn't been hunted yet or killed!
He pushed those thoughts and memories aside, deciding that he would just live his life however it happens. He doesn't want to be brought down any longer.
As he passed by an alley, he overheard a struggle. He became curious and moved towards the sounds, and saw a large man trying to overpower a smaller woman. He used his speed and appeared behind the man in seconds, then twisted his neck, killing him and dropping the body.
Damon sneered at the body then his sharp eyes landed on the smaller woman.
"You okay?" he asked, wondering why he cared.
"As okay as I can be," Kate replied, brushing herself off. She eyed the corpse with disdain. "You give a guy a friendly smile as you walk past and he decides to take it as an invitation. Thank you for your assistance, though killing him might have been a bit much."
This guy was a vampire. A handsome one, but a vampire nonetheless. For some reason he'd decided to save her.
"I hope you didn't save me in hopes of a willing meal."
Damon snorted at her words. âNope. Just passing by and wanted to help. Iâve already fed recentlyâŚno issues there.â
He stuffed his hands in his pockets, looking around.
âWant an escort home? Then Iâll be on my way.â
"I wouldn't exactly call it a home," Kate said with a snort of her own. "Just a place to lay my head at night. I try not to be there, but don't have enough for a nicer place. Or a bad place that's just me."
She shrugged.
"I'd hate to keep you from being on your way, but if you insist, I'll take a walk with you."
âAlright then. Lead the way,â Damon told her, not prying into her life based on her words. But he did have one curiosity.
âYou seem to not be afraid of meâŚand you seem to know what I am.â

The Bride
@scarredbookworm
Damon sat quietly alone in his parlor as he stared at his bourbon neat. He was alone as always, and even forgotten. At least him being a vampireâŚhow long had it been since his region had presented hopeful brides? His last bride had been killed in the fifties and he was slowly forgotten.
He hadnât wanted to leave his home for fear of being attacked himself. And he allowed the region to forget him. His existenceâŚand hisâŚcondition.
He frowned suddenly as he heard the sounds of tires on gravel. It had been some time since anyone ventured far enough to find his estate. He moved to the window, seeing a rickety car approaching.
When it stopped, a harsh woman stepped out and all but dragged another, younger woman from the car. He wondered if they were lostâŚ
âItâs okay,â Damon told her. âWe can take it slow and ease you into it. When we eventually become intimate, blood sharing is a must. It makes it truly amazing.â
"That will be once we marry I'm sure, if not before. I know I enjoy kissing you at the very least." She took his hand in hers and kissed it, smiling. "So... shall we retire to the library for a bit before dinner?"
âIâd love to. Would you perhaps like me to read to you some?â He offered. âI have plenty of books to choose from.â
"I'd be delighted. I certainly enjoyed it yesterday and I'm sure I'll enjoy it today and for the rest of our lives."
They headed to the library, where they settled onto a sofa, Kate tucked into Damon's side.
Damon began to read to Kate, keeping his voice low so only she would hear him. He played with her hair as he did so, fully enjoying their time together.
He wasnât worried about anyone disturbing them. And heâd worry about what to do with her mother another day.

The Maiden Voyage
@fan-maddson
Damon looked up at the large ship as he climbed from the car. His servants gathered his bags and belongings, bringing them to the cargo portion of the ship. They would be rooming in first class...he had purchased an extra room for their use. He was always a kind person and made sure they were comfortable and happy.
He moved forward then, heading for the boarding station for first class. as he passed some people, a young lady dropped her fan. He bent down and retrieved it before offering it to her, his blue eyes meeting her own. He gave her a kind smile.
âGood day,â he greeted. He nodded to whom he assumed were her parents and continued on.
"I agree," she smiled, leaning into his touch, careful not to lean too much, fearful her mother was close. Or worse, one of her close friends who always kept eyes on Fan.
âComeâŚIâm sure thereâs more I can show you,â Damon said with a smile.
âAnd we can perhaps plan to have a private meal when next we eat?â
âIf I can get away from my mother for tha long,â Fan smiled softly. âI think she would like you, if she took the time to know you.â
âPerhaps. And she will have that chance one day. But for now my time is yours,â he said with an easy smile.
"I assume you have a plan for helping me to avoid her," she asked with a grin, knowing how cunning her mother could be when her daughter was involved. Not to mention money.
He chuckled. âOf course. We just need to go places she doesnât ever want to go. Like third classâŚthe boiler roomsâŚmaybe the cargo section?â
A smile pulled at her lips, her head tilting. âYou know how to keep blue bloods away, donât you?â
He chuckled. âI may unfortunately be one but I know where the best people are for company and a fun time. I intend to share that with you wholeheartedly.â
âI canât wait,â she smiled, her eyes on his. âI wish weâd met sooner.â
âI do we well, but we have this time from this point forward to make the most of our time together,â he smiled. âNew York is only a few days away. Once we arrive, perhaps we could formally court?â

âLovely,â Damon said in annoyance. âA pity our time is about to be ruined my dearâŚif he becomes too much for you, feel free to retire to my study and the library attached. He wouldnât be able to get in.â
He lead Kate closer, keeping her arm in his own. As they neared Robert, his demeanor changed to somethingâŚdangerous. Protective.
Robert jumped to his feet, his face twisted in anger. "I have been waiting for hours," he snarled. "With no sign of you nor your mother. Your servants are useless, and you have no respect for visiting peers."
"Perhaps you should have called ahead so we could have known to expect you," Kate said evenly. She felt a little bit of fear, but she knew Damon would keep her safe. If she was to be the lady of the house, she needed to face her fears. "Respect goes both ways, and it is rude to show up unannounced."
âShe is correct of course. I had no knowledge of your impending visit nor did I know you had arrived to the village today,â Damon said. âAs such I have no room available for you but there is a lovely bed and breakfast in town that will be willing to offer you a room on the house.â
He didnât want him here if he could help it.
"I am only here to collect Katelyn from whatever idiocy you have convinced her to partake in. We had an agreement and she will honor it."
"You and my mother had an agreement," Kate replied, giving Damon's arm a small squeeze. "I agreed to no such match. Damon is my chosen and I intend to marry him. You will leave empty handed. I suggest you do so immediately."
Damon felt his heart swell at her declaration and felt the supernatural tie bind them together.
She had agreed to marry him. She was his now.
âI donât take kindly to someone trying to take what rightly belongs by my side,â he said, his voice darker. âYouâd do well to practice more caution around those you arenât familiar with.â
"You have known this man one day," Robert argued. "He could be a serial killer!"
Kate scowled. "He is no such thing, and even if he was, I'd rather be dead than married to you. Now get out or I will have you forcibly removed and banned from the area."
âSay the word love and he will be gone,â Damon told her. Heâd tear him limb from limb for how he spoke to his mate.
Fowl creature.
Robert decided it would be better to fight this battle from his own turf and stormed off, but not before growling, "This isn't over."
"Yes it is," Kate replied as the door shut behind him.
She turned to Damon. "Did I do all right?"
âYou did wonderful,â Damon said honestly. âAre you sure you donât want me to eat him? It would solve one problem.â
"Not yet. I want to keep that card close for now. If he continues to fight this, then I'll reconsider. He'd probably give you indigestion too."
She turned and stood on her toes to kiss him.
He chuckled. âHe probably would. But heâd be a memory of an issue at least.â
He pulled her closer, resting his forehead against her own.
âI could just change you nowâŚâ
"You could," she agreed. "I would not be averse to it. And I suppose I have made up my mind about marrying you as well..."
He hummed. âThen perhaps we should start blood sharing? I donât trust Robert at all. At least with that Iâd be protecting you.â
"Blood sharing? Does that mean we'll be... drinking from each other?" She swallowed at the thought of him biting her. It was... exciting. She wasn't frightened by that prospect at all. In fact, it made her feel warm.
âYesâŚif that bothers you we can speak about it more,â he said. âYou cannot become a vampire without it.â
He had seen her body language change. She was either nervous or excited.

âSay the word love and he will be gone,â Damon told her. Heâd tear him limb from limb for how he spoke to his mate.
Fowl creature.

He wondered if they were lostâŚ
âLovely,â Damon said in annoyance. âA pity our time is about to be ruined my dearâŚif he becomes too much for you, feel free to retire to my study and the library attached.
