We even see that a bit with Seasmoke, given he really only attacked Sheepstealer so he could put himself between Syrax and Sheepstealer and attacked once Addam was on his back.

Syrax, however, is not a battle dragon. Shes never fought anyone or anything. Shes not going to think, shes just going to defend (and shes got a lot of rage that one).
