Teyo grew up in a pretty unconventional home. There was always a sense of something more that loomed over his family. It was just him and his father for a long time. His mother was never in the picture. He didnât understand why when he was little. But once he grew in to his teen years. The reason was explained. His father came from a long line of âGuardians.â Tasked with guarding the line between the living and the dead. The kind of life his father had to lead wasnât appealing to his mother. So she left. Teyo hasnât quite forgiven her for leaving him too. But he figured that she wouldnât want him in her life now.
Growing up with his dad was an interesting experience. He started to be taught the family trade when he was about thirteen. Before then he was bounced from friend to friend while his dad went out on âhuntingâ trips. Finally being brought into his fatherâs world was one of the happiest moments of his life. Mostly because it meant he was able to spend time with his dad. Yeah, it wasnât your usual father son road trips. But they were together. It made Teyo finally feel like he belonged. Especially since his dad traveled with two other men. His Tios {Uncles}.
Teyo canât really say why exactly his father and uncles decided to settle in Cinderbrush. Maybe it had something to do with all the supernatural energy blanketing the town. But when Teyo was sixteen they made the town their main base. It was nice to finally have a real home to come back to after days on the road. Teyo was even allowed to enroll in school. Which did mean he didnât get to go out with his father as much. But he got a little bit of normalcy.
Life was good. It was Teyoâs definition of normal. He made friends. Got to be as close to a normal teenager as he could be. Everything changed when he was in his first year at Byrne University. His dad and uncles left on a routine hunting trip. They were only supposed to be gone for a few days. Two nights after they had left town, Teyo woke up in a cold sweat. He swears he could feel them. It was the worst kind of pain heâd ever experienced, on top of an almost crippling sadness. He was sure he himself was dying.
It would be another week and a half before Teyo was alerted by authorities that his father and uncles had passed. A tragic accident. But He knew they were gone the moment heâd woken up that night. For a few months he just went through the motions. He couldnât bring himself to do what he knew he was supposed to. What heâd been taught. Trained to do.
Was a year later that he finally opened Grimâs trunk. Part of him hoped that he wouldnât be chosen. Maybe he wasnât worthy to take his fatherâs place. But that wasnât the case. He could feel it in his bones when he touched the hide.
Itâs been three years since he was accepted by Grim. Three years of juggling college and making sure dead things stay dead and the living stay living. This isnât the way he thought his life would go. He didnât think he would be doing it all alone. But heâs determined to live up to his fatherâs legacy. Live up to Grimâs legacy. But sometimes it seems like a lot to put on one dudeâs shoulders.
The burn of smoke in your lungs. Bruised knuckle and split lips. Flannel shirts, ripped jeans. Long walks in the twilight. Deep bonds and deeper wounds. The loss of innocents. A crippling sense of justice. Mournful whispers of forgotten spirits. Sharp teeth. The taste of stale blood on your tongue. The smell of campfires and earth clogging your senses. Deep thoughts and lonely nights.
watch dog. you exist in the liminal space between two communities: one is resplendent with light, the other is damned to the shadows. it is your duty to guard the boundary

the alraune: itâd be a straight up lie if the alraune said they didnât have a bit of a school girl crush on the cerberus. theyâre not sure what it is that drew them in, maybe itâs the whole air of mystery or the fact that the cerberus is one of the few people that doesnât blatently give them the affection and adoration they crave, but itâs something. regardless, the alraune isnât even bothered by the fact that the cerberus hasnât fallen for their aura. crushes are fun and the alraune is just soaking in that giddy bliss.
the ghoul: let it be known, the cerberus is a guard dog. the keeper of the peace. the one that controls souls that pass between the two realms. and recently theyâve felt as if someone has slipped past. someone that was not supposed to. all the cerberus has to go on is a feeling. call it intuition, but when you know, you know. the cerberus is not sure how the ghoul got back to the land of the living, but they know they donât belong and theyâre not going to sleep until the ghoul is back where they belong. and they belong on a boat in the river styx headed to the underworld. but first the cerberus has to realize its the ghoul theyâre looking for. yeah, that would be a good start.
the mad scientist: itâs truly hard to find good neighbors, and both the cerberus and the mad scientist would say the other doesnât fit into that category. the cerberus is sick and tired of hearing weird banging and tinkering through the walls every day of the week. hell, last friday something blew up and shook the cement wall the two shared. and the mad scientist, well they have a dog allergy and sneezes up a storm every time they get near the cerberus. the mad scientist is convinced the cerberus is hiding a dog in their home, and wonât stop until the landlord does something about it.
