ahh i’m not sure if this is the same anon who sent me the previous ask?? either way, this is so thoughtful omg THANK YOU for leaving me this 😭  but please dont worry about me!! i’m simply tired n dealing with a bunch of Life Stuff but i will be okay! promise. 

omg im so sorry i took so long to answer this, but here are a couple of things that help me so hopefully you’ll find them useful too!!

for characterization:

→ use the manga as reference - i’m personally not a manga reader, but what i do is look up specific chapters that focus on characters i want to write for, and just pick up lil details from there! the manga does delve deeper into the characters’ individual stories, motivations and relationships w other characters + it includes timeskip stuff that you won’t find in the anime!!

→ draw parallels between characters and people you know irl - i think this helps tonsss bc i tend to find similarities between the personalities of fictional characters and people i know irl, which then helps me imagine how they’d behave in the scenarios i’m trying to write!! also feel like this makes the characters seem more realistic??? 

for dialogue:

→ paying attention to the dialogue in movies/shows/books/other fics can help sometimes?? idk how useful u may find this but i think it sort of gets you used to hearing what natural dialogue sounds like

→ try to keep it simple! in general, everyday speech tends to be pretty basic - simple language, short sentences, etc. poetic/figurative language sounds better in narration! i still struggle heavily with this one, but i find that reading dialogue out aloud helps me make sure it doesn’t come off awkward
