Seventeen long years. He waited. Waited as he made a vow to himself, lying under that tree, that heโd wait for his true love to come set him free from this terrible fate. The right time will come. He knows it.
After you had just humiliated yourself during the wedding rehearsal by forgetting your vows, you flee from the church into the dark woods away from the village. You needed some time alone to memorize the vows correctly as the pastor scolded you to do so.
Your parents had prepared an arranged marriage with James Paul McCartney, which will boost the social class of your family and restore wealth of his family. You hated the idea being married off to some random stranger you didnโt know. Despite all this, after meeting Paul, you and him actually started to like each other. Possibly in love. You and him had the same interest in music and started to relate to one another. Oh lord, Paul must think youโre a fool by now for ruining the rehearsal. His family mustโve thought the same thing according to the expressions they gave you.๏ฟผ
And your parents? Disappointed.
Not only you humiliated yourself during the rehearsal, you humiliated your parents as well making them look bad in front of Paulโs family because of your foolishness.
Some future bride you are. Pathetic. ๏ฟผ
You step into the dark woods, feeling the cold air giving you goosebumps. It was quiet except for the sound of your heels clicking and twigs snapping beneath your feet. The moonlight radiant and serene in the dark cloudy sky above you. You mumble to yourself, memorizing the vows.
โlt really shouldn't be all that difficult. It's just a few simple vows. With this hand, I will take your wine. Ugh, no, thatโs not it.โ With a sigh of frustration, you kept walking deeper into the woods, still practicing. But it was getting a bit difficult for you. You almost wanted to give up.
You thought about Paul for a moment. You thought about the way he smiled at you when you first met him back at the manor. Paul was kind to you, very polite and charming. He made your heart flutter in your chest. No man has ever made you feel this way before. You really did started to like him. The wedding is tomorrow, and you canโt ruin this upcoming day to humiliate yourself the second time.
โWith this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine.โ You say, finally memorizing the vows flawlessly. The more you practiced, the more you began to remember. ๏ฟผ
โWith this candle,โ You snap a branch feigning lighting a candle tilting it towards the other. โI will light your way in darkness.โ
โWith this ring, I ask you to be mine.โ A quiet voice whispers, catching you off guard.
You quickly turn around, finding no one except crows standing on branches overhead, staring down at you. The wind rustling through the trees.
โHello? Whoโs there?โ You call out, expecting someone to show up. Was someone here playing a prank on you just to scare you?
Instead of a response, a cold band slips onto your finger on your left hand. Turning your head back, you lift your hand only to find a wedding ring on your finger. What the hell? How did this happen?
You look down, finding a โrootโ that was shaped like a hand. All of a sudden, the โrootโ grabbed your arm, pulling you down to the ground making you gasp. The crows above you scattered, wings flapping, and began to caw loudly. You struggle to pull your arm back, but it was too strong as it gripped on you tightly, refusing to let go. ๏ฟผ
You managed to pull your arm back, falling backwards landing on your backside. You lift your arm and realized it was a skeletal hand still gripping your arm. No flesh. Just bone. You scream shaking it off till it released you landing on the ground a few feet away from you.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake, splitting open. It was like something or someone was desperately trying to get out. A fleshy blue hand reached out, crawling out of the ground as you watched, horrified by what was happening right in front of you. There rose a tall man standing over you with blue skin, dressed in a tattered, all-white wedding suit, his right ribs showing through the hole in his suit. He held still for a moment before he moves his long blue curls out of his face, revealing his doe eyes staring right at you.
โI do.โ He whispers, his voice soft spoken, extending his right hand towards you.
You wasted no time getting back up on your feet and started to run. The corpse man grabs his skeletal arm from the ground, attaching it right back in place, and chases you at a slow pace.
While you ran, you tripped over a gravestone almost twisting an ankle. You realized that you were in an old abandoned graveyard. You turn around behind you as the corpse was moving towards you, still chasing you. Once again, you get back up on your feet and continued to run before he could reach you.
What the hell was happening?
Why are you being chased by a dead man?
You ran into tree branches getting yourself stuck. You struggled to escape but the tree branches ripped parts of your dress. You turn your head again and the corpse was still coming after you, not quitting. You panic breaking free from the branches, finally finding a path to escape out of the woods.
You made it out of the woods successfully, stopping at a bridge near the church to catch you breath. You breathe heavily turning your head once again, searching if the corpse man was still chasing you.
Was this all your imagination?
With a sigh of relief, thinking you were safe, the corpse man appeared right in front of you inches away from your face by the time you turned around to head back to the village. You scream in horror backing away from him as he walked closer to you.
Your back hits the stone wall of the bridge. Now, he has you trapped. Both his hands move to capture your waist, pulling you against him.
โYou may kiss the bride.โ He whispers again, leaning towards you before gently pressing his cold lips against yours. Several crows flew, surrounding you and the corpse man, as their caws were getting louder and louder.
Then everything went black.
