This is a piece I used to sell at markets. To be honest, I never really liked it, but it was really popular. I think people felt connected to it; It wasn’t just something to fill space on the wall... they saw themselves in the canoe, or it reminded them of a place they love. Ive taken some time over the last couple days to just make stuff for myself. I didn’t film it, I didn’t get paid for it, I wasn’t told what to do. I went to the garage with no plan, just inspiration and imagination. I didn’t even have a plan after I had already started ... I just started cutting and figured I’d see where it would take me. To say this made me happy would be an understatement. When I just make stuff for the sake of making something I get giddy and excited. I can almost feel myself jogging from one end of the garage to the other because I’m so excited. It boosts my energy, my mood, and my desire to make things; It re-ignites my passion. So for all you other makers out there, make sure you take time every once in a while to remind yourself why you’re doing what you are, and why you started in the first place.
