Had he been looking at this rashly he would have stepped away, disengage from obvious bait and go about his day. But Neo had been off his game for a while now. at first there was a roll of her eyes. not ladylike, not in the slightest, but she couldn't be bothered. riling up the fairies was far too easy, especially the leftovers from what was once a "strong" guild. never stronger than sabertooth, no, and she knew that i she kept this up she may be pushing it too far, but did she care? not in the least.

It was subtle, Neo's face barely changing but even with the distance between them the sound of his knuckles popping from how tight of a fist he made was unmissable. if she were a woman prone to anger about her attitude, perhaps she would have reacted. instead, her wry smile turns to an amused on, and she stands from her seat, her eyes narrowing and spinning slightly to face him as one hand remains on the table she sat at. While he might have been in 'enemy' territory, Neo held his ground. "Funny, I was called out this way for a job that specifically asked for me by name. " now why would i know anything about that? it has to be a job that isn't too difficult, though. anyone worth their weight should know better than to summon a fairy in our territory. why would they need weaklings when the strongest guild is right here? " a wry smile graces her features, and she continues to tap her foot. " i'd say that you should be flattered that ANYONE knows your guild. when the rest of them simply disappear to avoid coming back, you know there's a problem. "

she could SMELL it on him. she knew that smell better than anyone, because she had spent more than enough time in the presence of demons to know them just by their scent. HELL, even SHE knew other demons could smell her. her eyes narrow, and she barely spares a glance his way. " if you're here to recruit me, i'm not interested. " her tone is neutral, and she waves a hand away, " go on, then. i'm sure there are remnants of tartarus you can find somewhere else. "
it's easier to break the mirror than to face the reflection
there are days when minerva catches her reflection and sees herself. there are other days when she sees her father. not physically, she doesn't think they look alike, and with her father having constantly compared her to her mother, she doesn't see it physically. but she sees traces of the person she's become after trying to survive under him. arrogant, cruel, and the anger she carries like armor. on those days, she avoids mirrors completely, and on more than one occasion she's ended up with bloody and bruised knuckles from smashing the mirror. the reflection reminds her of a person she can never change from.
with that being said, she's scared of becoming someone's safe space. she's afraid of depending on others, yes, but she's MORE scared of having someone rely on her. being someone's source of comfort means having the power to hurt them: it means becoming important enough that your mistakes matter. minerva knows firsthand what happens when people abuse that kind of trust. so when someone begins relying on her emotionally, she becomes unusually careful: every word is measured and every decision is second-guessed. she wants to protect them from the possibility of becoming what her father was to her.
