âThat was one time.â He rolled his eyes, but didnât deny that it had happened. âAnd in my defense you hadnât wanted to help me finish that bottle of soju before we went.â
God, that had been an entirely different life- every aspect of who the both of them had been had changed so drastically in the years since, it almost put a tremor in his hands. Still, he wanted to get out of the house. Wellâ he needed to, really. David had gone with the twins to spend the day at the pool at his behest, and heâd told the boy that heâd leave the house, too, if his son would. And- though he didnât want to tell this to Erik- it felt a bit like this could be some exposure therapy.
Because he hadnât been working, he hadnât been entrenched in fossils or dinosaurs since the accident and when he did think about them, see them in books or on a screen or in the form of a nugget⌠he felt that sinking feeling in his stomach, he felt the muscles in his back and in his abdomen tense up. It wasnât fun and it certainly wasnât sustainable. He had to face this, and facing it meant fossils before the living, breathing things back in Costa Rica.
âAnyway, you know dinosaurs are always business and pleasure, Erik.â

actually so obsessed with those couples who marry and divorce each other multiple times. going on wikipedia and seeing the same name 3+ times under the spouses section.

It wasnât something that he would admit to his friends too openly, but Erik knew certain sections of the Library very well. Especially the science section, which was where he was currently having a head-on collision.
He also knew the student he had just run into. The school wasnât that big, and they had run into each other more than a few times on Campus. A shared class or two over the years, but never anything that made them very close. Still, Erik knew him.Â
âXavier?â He said, eyes narrowing at the apologist as he rubbed his chin, which had smacked right into Charles. âDamn. No wonder I didnât see you, shorty,â It wasnât so much teasing as played straight and dry. He was wiping at his clothes, as if they had tumbled on the ground or something, and straightening his leather jacket. âIâm fine, man, you okay? Probably need to watch where youâre going next time, pal.â Because of course he wasnât going to take the blame for this. He snorted with repressed laughter.Â
Yet then his eyes landed on one of the books the other boy was holding. Damn. That was one of the ones he needed.
Erik could have said the same about Charles. There were a few Ex-Pats, or whatever, around. A few from India. A few from France. But not that many with a British accent, and none with so lovely a voice as Charles. He said that from a purely aesthetic view, of course. It was just like Shakespearean theatre, listening to the boy talk. Not that he enjoyed Shakespeare. He just, appreciated it, okay? In secret. Well. His face lit up again, when he heard just what Charles had said. Speaking of that voice, it was amusing to hear such language from it. âDid you just curse?â He laughed. âWow, such language with that mouth.â For a moment, he was looking at said mouth. Then he grinned. âAs long as youâre maybe alright. Yeah. Look out next time.â Why was he so flustered? Erik was a little proud of that. He puffed himself up. This would be the way to play it, then. With a sideways smirk, he looked at the book on top of Charlesâ pile. He grabbed it, flipping it over. âIâm fine, now that I have this.âÂ
Charles frowned a bit when laughed at, as if he couldn't curse. He could curse, Erik Lehnsherr! He could curse up a storm, he just didn't like to when it wasn't... it doesn't matter. Whatever! Charles just rolled his eyes instead of taking the bait- but then looked at the taller boy with those big cow eyes. Was rolling his eyes a bad move? He hoped not. He hoped they could stay neutral.
Boy, you thought he was flustered before?
And then Erik made a bigger mistake. He took Charles' book.
"I was going to check that out." Don't fuck with his books, Erik Lehnsherr.

With that, he couldnât resist. He couldnât hold himself back any longer. What was the point? For a brief, shameful moment, he longed for the helmetâto cut Charles out, to have his head to himself again, but no, there was something so wonderful about the trust, the sharing of their minds, and in this case, their bodies. Charles had sworn before he wouldnât come back in. Somehow, he had. Somehow, it was a sliver of what they had had before, the good of it, and he didnât want to end that. He didnât want to risk that, not now. If it was on his own terms, Erik could agree with it. He just liked to have a say of when, where, and how. ThisâŚthis was good. This was okay. He wasnât alone, now, here, with Charles in his mind.Â
And, as said, he couldnât resist.Â
He kissed Charles, at first it was soft, searching, almost chaste, but quickly, feeling the heat light up in his own lips at the contact, the strange feedback they had going on, he kissed him again, deeper, more eager, even maybe a little desperate to express with his mouth what Charles could already feel in Erikâs mind.Â
He knew what was coming before it was there, his body and mind were more than willing to accept whatever it was Erik was going to give. It was a start, this was a start and he knew that to make it work he had to trust the other. It would take time, of course, to fully trust him again butâŚit was a start. And he was ready to start the healing process, whatever that entailed. Erik was sorry for what had happened, he knew that. The tear was beginning to mend.Â
Propping himself up on his elbows, ironically to limit any tension or pain to Erikâs back, Charles gave into the kiss. And it was good. It was good to have this connection again, to have it back with anyoneâ but especially with Erik. It was hopeless to deny, Charles was, would be, and always has been in love with Erik. Since he found this amazing fool half drowned in the ocean, attempting to raise a submarine. Heâd loved him for their midday chess games outside the Lincoln memorial, loved him for their long conversations on the road and in the mansion. Heâd loved him through Cuba, through his abandonment, through his solo rehabilitationâ try as he might not to.
So having him back again? Like this? Closest to heaven that heâd ever been.
The massage was either the best idea, or the worst idea.Â
He would think on that in the morning.
For now, it didnât matter. For now, all that mattered was Charlesâ mouth, slanted against his, like old times. The heat building, the tension melting, more so than both of their hands could provide.Â
It was so easy to fall back into, that it must have been disastrous. But he didnât care. Not now, and he may not ever.Â
Erik moved, moving Charles with him, laying them across the bed in a more comfortable position. He was conscious of Charlesâ legs, but not hindered by them. He was careful, but not insulting. It was just another thing to work through. They would work through it. They had worked through lesser things.Â
âCharlesâŚâ He pulled away slightly, gasping his name like it was salvation. For indeed, it was. Then he kissed him again.Â
You see the issue is, Charles would love to use his legs to tease. To press against the other, nudge and be a menace and a nuisance and now he couldn't and that sucked a little bit. But- well, roll with the punches. This is what you have to work with, Xavier, this is what you're going to work with.
Their connection was broken by the time Erik repositioned them on the bed, those pins and needles leaving Erik's legs and those knots and tension leaving his back and neck in a split second. Clearly, he'd gotten the other a bit distracted. Good job.
Don't talk, Erik. Just kiss him again. Charles was diving right back in, as soon as the other pulled away to say his name.

He had been ready to let go, to take his place at Charlesâ side, stoic, one hand in his pocket, the other perhaps laying on the back of the chair, but noâCharles held on to his hand. Oh, a public display, then? Well, he wouldnât be able to deny him that, with it being Valentineâs Day and all. It wouldnât really matter tonight, would it? It was worth it, to forget all of their differences, and to see that smile on Charlesâ face. Holding hands in public, what a few people thought, that wouldnât matterâŚ
It didnât.Â
The restaurant was empty, except for candles and a full table sat for them. Of course, there were waitstaff and cooks somewhere, or this would be pointless, butâŚâAh, the benefits of privilege,â He teased, because if he didnât tease, or say something, Charles would think it odd. âBut, really Charles this isâŚ.this is lovely.â He gave his hand a squeeze, looking around the empty restaurant. It was more lavish than he would have dreamed of as a child. Definitely more than he could have done for anyone he cared about. How did he get so lucky to know such a man as Xavier? âI think this privacy isâŚjust what we need tonight.âÂ
Charles looked up at Erik when they walked in to the empty hall, a mixture of glee and anticipation on his face. The response, the teasing, was exactly the reaction heâd been hoping for. Well, one of them. Furious make outs would work as well, or that big toothy grin he loved so muchâŚbut teasing worked too. As long as Erik was happy.
âOne of the benefits indeedâŚâ it was more mumbled, privilege was not always a positive in Charlesâ lifeâ after all that had happened. Though heâd survived, and the remnants of his broken childhood had managed to create- really- quite a beautiful mosaic. Still, his smile persisted. Erik was pleased. Charles couldnât be happier about that. âIâm glad you enjoy it, and I couldnât agree more. Come on then! Chop chop, letâs get to our table, then.âÂ
Hand still interlocked with Erikâs, he used his other hand, his free hand, to push himself along, using Erik on the other side as a stabilizer.
With them, it could have gone either way. Yet Erik knew, on a holiday, that he was to be on his best behavior. If something meant this much to Charles, he was going to appreciate it. He wasnât feeling surly, anyway. They had been getting along well. It was a strangely pleasant turn of events. He would enjoy it.Â
âI always knew you had too much money to know what to do with, but buying out restaurants, really XavierâŚâ Another good-hearted tease with a big grin. He would have to play to Charles. It was part of who they were. There was more beneath the surface in that, but they would not dwell. Erik wouldnât let him. He had done this, after all. He wasnât going to be a spoilsport. This wasnât about the past. It was about them, now.
After such a scavenger hunt to get here, it was worth it.Â
They walked forward to the chairs at their table. âI would have enjoyed anything with you, but I will not say no to good food. As long as itâs Kosher.â He helped Charles settle in at his place before going to sit across from him with a smile.Â
A moment of silence from Charles, concentration on his face Erik would know well, and a member of the waitstaff emerged from the kitchen with a bottle of (very expensive) red wine- which they dutifully filled each of the man's glasses with. Charles smiled at them while they were at the table and mentally thanked them, letting them know they'd be ready for the first course now.
The server gave a small bow and returned to the kitchen, their silence could have been seen as odd but if Erik were perceptive he'd have seen the slits along the young adult's neck- almost like gills.
"Of course it's kosher- and vegetarian! I've covered all the bases, don't you worry, and I will have you know we are supplying a very cushy job tonight for some very wonderful members of our mutant community. Why, the chef utilizes thermal manipulation to ensure everything is cooked to the perfect temperature."
On the Road--Charles and Erik
Youâll be wonderful at it. He said, smirking a bit more. Though it will be a shame you have to lock yourself away, grading papers in your office all the time. At least we know you can keep your mind sharp.Â
At that, he gave every one of his chess pieces a shake, as if to prove that was what he meant. It had been difficult at first, to accept Charles in his mind. Now he opened to him fully, as if it were second nature. Behind his eyes, he saw the board, and Charlesâ first move. His friend favored the rook, so Erik moved a pawn, easily feeling it through the wall with his powers. The tone of the game could be set with the next move.Â
He had no shields up, not against Charles, not now. If the telepath so wished, he could feel the exhaustion in him. The worry, the frustration, the impatience. It was being channeled to the game now, instead of tearing him up, this late at night.Â
Erik smiled a little, leaning his head back against the basic headboard of the cheap bed. I can see that. Erik projected back. You are never an idle one, Charles. This I know. And, all jokes aside, from the way your sister talked before we left, you do like your occasional party. He grew quiet, feeling and sensing through their link Charlesâ next move. He moved a pawn himself, prolonging any direct conflict between them. They were drawing it out, making it last. Nothing quick and sharp, no charge into battle yet. He chuckled to himself at that, knowing they were playing it the same way. A distraction. A long, tiring one. Neither would give in, to the game, to sleep, so easily tonight. Or to whatever else needed to be said. Of course, youâll probably stop all that now, wonât you, Professor and all? Or is this something we should keep secret from the students?. When was he this playful? He must be delirious from their roadtrip. Either that, or this man brought it out in him. Either way, Erik didnât fight it. It felt natural, this banter with Charles.
Oh, yes, I'm sure that sister of mine has divulged a great many of my secrets to you. There wasn't any ill will in his thoughts, though. It seemed he found it to be amusing. Why shouldn't Erik know what Charles liked? Likes. He wasn't ashamed of having fun.
Another small, seemingly inconsequential move on Charles' side, giving Erik a little mental nudge to let him know that it was his turn. It was true, he was playing the long game but that didn't mean he wanted to lose the long game... It was an 'inconsequential' move for now, but it could set him up for more down the line.
I don't believe in keeping secrets. Liar. I don't believe in keeping big secrets, at least, not if they're beneficial to the wellbeing of others. It doesn't seem fair, when I'm at my core very hard to keep secrets from. So, no. I don't think I'll keep myself from having fun and I don't think I should necessarily hide it from those we find, either. They're learning to harness their powers, but they should know they're allowed fun as much as anyone is.
The Bachelor AU
Erik was glad the producer was gone. He hadnât spent much time around the man, but already he was getting the feeling he wasnât too pleasant. He didnât smell it, either. So that left him alone with the star. It had to be coincidence that Charles Xavier was hanging around, too. It couldnât have been any other reason. He apparently had things to pack, just as Erik had the camera.Â
He took a few extra minutes, shutting down the legs of the tripod, making sure the lens was clean before he put the cap on. He closed the window, flipped things off, and general stalledâŚ
And was rewarded, because as he was putting the camera up, the Bachelor was looking at him. Smiling, if a bit shyly.Â
He wasnât fooling anyone with that excuse, either. Oh, so what was this about?Â
âYouâre fine,â Erik said casually, leaning down to pick up the tripod and hoist it over his shoulder. It was a fluid, easy movement.Â
What else should he say? He wanted to ask more pointed questions. Are you really straight? Are you really single? What do you think youâre going to get out of this? Are you really interested in the arts, or is that for the show? Are you real? Can I have your number?Â
Instead, Erik cleared his throat. âThat was a good interview. Better than most.âÂ
Wait, he had never watched the show? Erik hadnât. Well, he had when he got the job, for research. To see what he needed to match. To see just what he had to attach his name to. But still, for him, it would be another thing on his CV. More experience, hopefully more connections in the big city, but for Charles, the whole world was about to know his name. And he had never seen the show before? Just why was he here? Erik hoped he hadnât seen the show because he was busy watching plays. On Broadway. Something. Please, he would be so happy if that were true. And then he internally cursed himself for getting his hopes up. For letting this strange, possibly fame-hungry man, make him so happy. That wasnât like him. Cool it, Lehnsherr. You dealt with plenty of faces that took to the camera well, no need for these blue-eyes to get your hopes up. He cleared his throat. âIâm sorry, did you say youâve never actually watched the show?â It was said lightly, with a hint of amusement. âMay I ask you, then, if I can be so bluntâwhat are you doing here?âÂ
Haha, oops! There was that bashful smile again, though this time it may have had an added layer of... panic? A bit of anxiety, at least. Nerves, for sure. Because was that bad? It definitely wasn't normal, surely, especially for him being the one who'd been chosen and cast for the show to have never seen it.
But, like... He'd signed a contract. He was here. What would they do, kick him out? No, no surely they wouldn't kick him out for this of all things.
"My sister is my agent." He said that in way of an explanation, in answer to 'what are you doing here.' "She saw that they had this- apparently- rare open call and pushed me to audition. I truly didn't think I'd land it in a thousand years, so I never bothered to do any 'research', and then everything else happened so fast, sssooo...?"
A rise at the end, as if he were asking the cameraman if this were true. But it was true, he'd never really gotten into reality television. Truthfully, Charles found it extremely stressful to watch, which was cruelly and jokingly part of the reason Raven had pushed him to do this.
Sneaking In-The Of Preps & Punx AU
âAnd why would I not take you up on your hospitality?â He grinned, edging into the room when Charlesâ opened the door up. âItâs not like Iâve got homework to do or anything.â He challenged, knowing Charles would probably take the play for what it was and butt heads with him on it. Of course he had homework. Lotâs of it, that he was ignoring, but Erik was the kind who could finish it in five minutes and get a good grade. It was the typical challenge of not *not* caring, just not being challenged enough, even here. âStill offering that lesson?âÂ
âIâve been called worse things,â He threw back at Charles, giving a wink. Funny boy, indeed. Erik looked around the dorm room. Charles, somehow, had a nice one. Rich kids and all that. He sat down on the edge of the bed, kicking his boots off. âOkay. So. Dungeons and Dragons. Do I even get to be a dragon in this game, or am I wasting my time?â He sat up straight once his shoes were off, running a hand through his hair and throwing a lop-sided grin at the poor boy.Â
"Funny again." That time it came with an exaggerated eye roll, though, joining Erik on the bed as well once he'd collected the required books for this particular education. Charles huffed, tucking a bit of his hair back behind his ear- or moving to, at least, his hair wasn't actually quite long enough for it to do anything.
"But you can be a dragonborn if you'd like, it's like a humanoid dragon but they have some nice perks..." He flipped to the necessary page in the necessary handbook, pointing to a drawing of dashing red dragon-man in plate armor wielding a large battle axe- seemingly frozen in mid attack. "Depending on the type of dragon you have ancestry in, you get a breath weapon where you can breathe fire, acid, lightning, poison, or- well, it's technically just called 'cold', but ice."

'Coz This Is Thriller \\ the of preps & punx au
At least this was going to be interesting, now.Â
He had expected most of the night to be full of him showing off his costume, and having to fend off the dumb questions from jocks and drunk girls alike. Maybe heâd be taking one home. He hadnât had that happen in a while, and Halloween was one of the best times of year for random hookups. Either way, he wasnât expecting anything spectacular to happen.Â
Then Charles Xavier had to surprise him.Â
This kid was getting more and more brownie points in his book.Â
At Charlesâ retort, he made a flourish and a bow. âAnd here I thought I was going to be the only music god here tonight. Youâre giving me a run for my money.â He was smirking, unable to wipe the grin off his face. âThough Iâm not sure about the mustache in general, it does wonders for the costume.â Charles was smiling too, and that had to be good. A few people were pointing at them now, as they walked by, laughing or excited at such good costumes, it didnât matter. Erikâs night was made.Â
Was it just him, or was Charles smiling a little more at the admission that he already had those boots? Suddenly, and seemingly unbidden, thoughts of Charles borrowing the boots came to mind. They were quickly pushed aside. The boots had been the only thing he was wearing, and he was a little embarrassed at the audacity of his own thought. Besides, the costume the other boy had on now deserved more respect than that. Erik was grateful at the moment that he was wearing makeup. His mind focused. It was laser sharp, and it was determined to keep this image of Charles Xavier forever. He took his time looking the other over, at the details, the way he movedâŚ.Charles was talking to him? âWell, Iâve got ONE spider from MarsâŚâ He had no clue where Azazel had loped off to with his drink. Erik looked around but snorted with laughter. âThatâs much better than she could have come up with. Emma isâŚ.Emma.â Licking his lips, he settled his gaze back on Charles. He had the feeling, yes, that this was supposed to be. They had to go together. He took his hand and gave it a firm shake. âThis is an amazing Halloween, Iâve gotta say.âÂ
Charles was looking over towards the other's friends with Erik, an amused smile on his lips. It was sweet that Azazel had at least tried to match with Erik, even if the attempt was a bit lackluster... Personally- if Charles were going to be a spider from Mars? Hmm... Maybe a bit of Marvin the Martian in there? Or a dusty, red color for the spider itself... like a giant desert dwelling beast. Extra eyes seemed superfluous, but- hm. Something to think about.
When Erik turned back to Charles, he smiled up at him. When Erik returned the handshake, it turned into a grin.
"Have you had the punch yet? It's awful and certainly going to be taken care of by the staff soon."
Hush Of Preps and Punx AU
The bad thing about a boarding school is that youâre never able to be really, truly alone. There are roommates and when roommates are gone thereâsâ well, thereâs everyone else. Erik included, Erik who hadnât seen him since lunch earlier that day, whoâd missed the incident with Moira and that cotton-headed ninnymuggin of an underclassmen William and the really quite painful bruise growing around his arm.
ââŚâŚIâm just really tired.â
âYeah, well, youâve always been nice to me too, so..â There was a shrug on the other shoulder of the arm that wasnât around Charlesâ shoulders. He gave him a squeeze, staying in close. Charles hadnât looked up, and he didnât trust him, not with the quaver he could still hear in his voice. âHey. Iâve gotten in trouble for a lot of stupid shit. Staying to make sure youâre okay would be one of the better ones.â He ducked his head, a silly grin on his face, trying to make eye contact with the other.Â
A chuckle bubbled up out of the smaller boy from somewhere, wet and shaky but still technically a laugh. He wiped at his face again, digging the heel of his hand hard into eyes to try and get them to cooperate but they were still wet and so heavy and tired... He was so fucking tired.
Charles glanced at Erik from out the side of his hand, a circle of darkness interposed over the vision from how hard he'd been pressing down on his eyes.
"We could watch a movie?" He asked, silently hopeful that Erik would take him up on the offer. Charles loved Hank, he was a wonderful roommate...but only when he was actually there. This semester, he'd been gone on the weekends a lot with some cousins who lived in the area and... and truthfully, Charles didn't like sleeping alone. So- a movie. Just to take up a little more time, just a little more company before he was alone in the dark.
@legman-lensherr | cont. from x
Jealousy had never been a cute look on anyone, and with Charlesâ vast knowledge it wasnât a style he very frequently wore. Still, he was only human (mutant, whatever. Human still applied here).
Cortez had been practically throwing himself on Erik all night. And if that hadnât been enough, he was projecting. A man like that, who knew so much about the Magneto he worshipped, had no doubt known what he was doing to the manâs husband. As the night went on, Charlesâ dislike only grew. It started as annoyance, but Erik was humoring the man! It was hard to keep his thoughts, hands, and reactions to himself but he did his best. So what if he was a little more physical with Erik tonight? He couldnât see the other minding all that much. And it worked, to a degree. Cortez had backed off, even if only an inch, by the time he went to bed (his room being the furthest available guest roomâ the one with the hardest mattress).
âEverything is absolutely perfect, Erik.â He bristled as the other preened, his hand going to touch Erikâs thigh. Even if it was just the two of them, he had to make sure Erik knew he was his. âYou seemed to be having a good time tonightâŚâ
âYouâre saying that like I couldnât quash those thoughts without his knowledgeâŚâ a finger tapped against Erikâs chest, feeling ever so slightly better and leaning into the teasing, now. âYe of little faith, Erik, tsk tskâŚâ
Still, Erikâs words werenât particularly encouraging. Some stupid little voice in his head, it told him that the only way Erik knew he loved him was the ring. That he wasnât doing enough to show him he cared and wanted him here. But that was silly, wasnât it? He dug through his own mind, files upon files. Erik knew he loved him, didnât he?
Oh god, was that why he was allowing Cortez to flirt???
No. No, thatâs the silliest thought yet.
âFeel the ring physically, sure, but⌠I mean, emotionallyâ actually, mentally, whatever way youâŚfeel- you know how much I love you, donât you?â
Erik could only smile. âAh, yes. My terrifying telepath, you are right. I should never doubt you,â It was said with an eye roll, but there was weight behind the words. He knew exactly how powerful Charles could be.Â
Though as he looked at his husband, he saw the doubt on his face. It actually worried him, Charles was usually extremely confident, and when it came to them, well, he didnât let the cracks show like this. The jealousy really was bothering him.Â
âCharles,â He said, his voice more firm. âYou said yes. After everything weâve been through, after you saving my life, giving me a home, after what I did, after all these years together, apart, fighting, loving, you said yes.â Erik took both of his hands in his. âI only hope that you know how much I love you, as well. If you love me a fraction of the same, Iâd be happy.âÂ
"Damn skippy, you shouldn't." Charles gave Erik a little smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. Distracted, worried.
But when Erik spoke- when Charles knew that Erik was telling the truth... He had to listen, because it was so very nice to hear. It felt like a warm hug, and it got Charles' stunted little smile to finish growing. He leaned up as much as he could and planted a kiss on Erik's- well, his arm. That was as far as he could reach.
And he let a little bit out, then. A tendril snaking up Erik's form and right into his mind. Colors like the sunset in late fall just before it disappears...all cotton candy pink and sherbet oranges. That last line on the horizon. A cool breeze on a hot summer's day and the smell of petrichor- that feeling of fresh, warm sheets on a cold winter's night and laying beside the one you love the most; each with their own books and cups of tea. Companionable silence.
He loves you, Erik.

@legman-lensherr (no idea why it didnât post it on the ask but here we are)
It was involuntary, at times, even if no one ever believed himâ crawling into other peopleâs dreams. Overly tired, stressedâŚit was the same excuses any of their kind would make for a slip up. A loss of control. Erik wouldnât be happy, if he knew, but Charles couldnât find the doorâ he couldnât leave if he wanted to. And truth be told, he did not want to.
He and Erik hadnât been acquainted long, but they were speed running their friendship. Charles knew all of the other within five minutes of meeting him, after all. Before theyâd ever spoken, but this was his first time in such an unabashedly vulnerable place his. Despite what you may outwardly think about the other mutant, about his conscience, about his mind and soul, his dreams wereâŚfull. They were loud.
An alarm was calling, but it seemed far off. Charles stood in a field, blue, while fog rolled in from a heard but unseen stream. He followed the sound, searching for either his host or the door out.
The ground blinked at him, and Charles picked his pace up just enough.
Erik glanced over to see a second menorah. It only confused him, but there was more light. Light that revealed things that were better left in the dark. He had been the one to say it, but⌠His mind didnât fully register what was going on, but he trusted in Charles. He was learning that, feeling that, as each day went by, and he knew that here. Still, Erik stared at the blood, at their hands, unable to fully comprehend. Charles was touching him, directing his gaze, and he did look at him, confused as to why he was still there, still holding on to him, with all ofâŚthis. His face fell. âIs it, Charles?âÂ
Charles was forcing eye contact, forcing Erik to look at him as much as he felt he was forcing himself to look at Erik. This was- delicate. This was all very delicate and fragile and he had to be careful not to fuck it all up and send this somewhere darker or let Erik's trust in him be broken by this obvious breech of trust.
It had been accidental at first, that was what he'd tell him if he figured it out in the waking world. And then he'd had to help- he'd had to.
"Yes, it is." Firm, stubborn. "Survival is your strength, not your shame."
That was T.S. Eliot. Would Erik know that? Didn't matter, it was true and it needed to be said at this moment.

There were few things in his life that were as hard as walking through that door had been.
Deciding to stay on the beach had been one of them, and it had led to his best years. At the end of them, he had lost the man in front of him. That had led to darker things. Those things may have come, but he wouldnât have faced them alone. Having had to, he knew he had lost his way. Now, his way was back, as if no time had passed.
Now, as he walked into what had been his husbandâs study, over twenty years ago, and looked at him for the first time, not aged a day, Erik Lehnsherr thought his heart would fail.
The look on his face had to reveal it all, cycling through emotions, everything plain, before it settled, as neutral as he could force it.
He was keenly aware of how he looked. How he must look. Erik had always been vain, and he had dressed the best he could. Scavenged what he could for fitted slacks, a dress shirt, a blazer, nice shoes. It was something he hadnât really needed, but he kept it, just the same. An old habit. His hair, which he kept slightly longer now, not bothering to cut it, silvering. Crows feet webbed around his eyes, though his features had sharpened even more, honed by the harsh years. His body lean with hard muscle, not gone to slack with age due to necessity, the clothes still fit him well, the way he had always liked. He had left the helmet off, but carried it under his arm. It was a reminder, not only to Charles, but to himself, that the past was past. It may be hard for him to know, seeing it face to face like that.
âCharles,â His voice cracked on the word. He stood there, back against the door, as straight as he could.
The silence was heavier than the crying. As Charles grew quiet, his own tears stilled. It was more heartbreaking to hear, and though the pain in his chest hadnât subsided, he was able to dry his own eyes, and refocus. There was nothing to do for any of it. They were both, right now, looking backward. The only way was to look forward, even if they couldnât see where that would go, right now. The helmet came off, and he sat back a little. He didnât move, though, letting Charles lead here. It had been so long, and yet, not a moment had passed for him. He wasnât the same. He was a completely different person, but yetâŚnot, not when he held Charles in his arms. âI donât either,â He said, voice low, rumbling with emotion. âSo Iâll just say thatâŚit is so good to see you, Charles.âÂ
Charles sat back, manually pulling his legs out from under him with practiced ease and leaning back on his hands to support himself. He sniffled, wiped his face on his shoulder, and let out a rather shaky sigh.
He just needed a moment to collect himself, before he could try and speak again.
He almost laughed at that, but it came out all wrong and threatened to turn into another sob- so he just put his shoulder in his mouth to smother it before it could bubble up.
"I can only imagine..."
Because, oh, how he would love to see his own Erik right now.

Oh, no. Kernel warfare, he's wounded. Charles fake dies on the desk, when the kernel hits him but revives very quickly and sits back up with a dramatic sigh.
"I'm sure Cassidy is one of them." He tried to sound grumpy, but he was smiling. He genuinely liked all of his students, every year, even if they were little monsters sometimes. They were just- excited! Which was good, they should be excited! Dinosaurs were exciting! Even after all these years, dinosaurs were still exciting.
Charles hummed. "Twenty minutes, that's all I need of you. I believe in you."
