Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkienâs own painting The Front Gate, I wanted to imagine Erebor before the dragon, when it was still green and fair. Only a dragon-shaped shadow slips across the meadow (if you look closely enough), hinting at whatâs to come.
Oil on canvas, 12 x 16 inch
My original oil painting, Tuor Before the Great Sea
20â x 16â (unframed) | 27â x 23â (framed)
Inspired by Friedrichâs Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, I wanted to capture Tuor at the edge of the worldâbefore the vast Great Sea, harp upon his back, as seven swans rise into the sky to guide him toward his destiny.
My tribute to The Hobbit and its many beautiful editions. Original oil painting. 16â x 20â.
Very excited that it has been shortlisted for Tolkien Societyâs Best Artwork Award!

Idril wearing the Elessar
"But fairer than all the wonders of Gondolin was Idril, Turgon's daughter, she that was called Celebrindal, the Silver-foot, whose hair was as the gold of Laurelin before the coming of Melkor." - Silmarillion
Portraits of Elros and Elrond
(In universe backstory)
The portrait of Elros is painted by his only daughter TindĂłmiel, showing the the first King of NĂşmenor holding the Sceptre of NĂşmenor and a map of the land.Â
A copy of this painting survived the Fall and came to the House of Elrond. It is believed that Arwen created portrait of her father Elrond in homage to TindĂłmielâs painting.
(Portrait of Elrond posted before)
Galadriel wearing the Elessar
âFor Galadriel Celebrimbor made the greatest of his works (save the Three Rings only) ... Wielding the Elessar all things grew fair about Galadriel, until the coming of the Shadow to the Forest.â (Unfinished Tales)
Painted by Celebrimbor in universe
Andreth and Aegnor, in the style of Vermeer
(In universe backstory)
Both portraits were painted by Andreth; her self-portrait she gifted to Aegnor, and his portrait she kept for herself. In this way, they were never parted from each other until the end.
Portrait of Finrod Felagund, by a descendant of BÍor.
âThey believed at first that Felagund was one of the Valar... but Felagund dwelt among them and taught them true knowledge, and they loved him, and took him for their lord, and were ever after loyal to the house of Finarfin.â

Nerdanel the Wise
âShe was strong, free of mind, and filled with the desire for knowledge...She made images of men and women of the Eldar, and these were so alike that their friends, if they knew not her art, would speak to them.â
(In universe backstory)
This painting of Nerdanel, titled The Sculptor at Work, is painted by her husband, FÍanor. The subject of the unfinished sculpture is believed to be FÍanor himself.
âThe face of Elrond was ageless, neither old nor young, though in it was written the memory of many things both glad and sorrowful. His hair was dark as the shadows of twilight, and upon it was set a circlet of silver; his eyes were grey as a clear evening, and in them was a light like the light of stars.â
(In universe backstory)
This portrait of Elrond is painted by Arwen, Queen of the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor, in memory of his father. Elrond is shown reading a book in the hallway of Rivendell, with a pavilion hosting the statue of Celebrian in the background. The painting is displayed at the Court of Minas Tirith.Â
"Most of the stories you hear about dragons are fodder for fools. Talking dragons, dragons hoarding gold and gems, dragons with four legs and bellies big as elephants ⌠nonsense, all of it." -- Tyrion, ADWD
or, is it?
In which Smaug smells one not so familiar dwarf, and Tyrion updates his knowledge on dragons. Can Tyrion talk himself out of this one?
- What do you say to the God of Death?
- Valar Morghulis.
Middle Earth and asoiaf crossover, in which the âgod of deathâ is Mandos, one of the Valar, and he is on Aryaâs list.
