I often get mad and annoyed at myself for not being one of those queer kids who knew themselves so well they smirked to themselves when someone asked them if they have a boyfriend. The mental gymnastics I did to convince myself I was attracted to and able to fall in love with men.
Then I realized that the environment I grew up in made being my authentic self unsafe. My brain was protecting me. Then my anger pivots to every adult who ever made me feel that way.
