As a male artist, commenting on how surprising it is that you are influenced by more female artists than male is idiotic. You might as well say that it never happens, because male artists are better. An artist's music should appeal to you primarily just for what it is, finding a deeper meaning or being able to relate based on who the artist is or the gender they identify with can broaden that inspiration. That being said, saying you're surprised at your no-longer-so-secretly-sexist-self for being influenced by the quality of music being put out by women is unnecessary and it encourages the repetition of this backhanded sentiment. We don't need a "male champion." All people deserve respect, consideration, and acknowledgement of their abilities regardless of gender.
