It took me a moment to get my bearings, make sure i was fully back on this plane of reality. i took a few looks off the side of the tower to see what I could see. Most of it wasn't worth writing about. Unusual, to be fair, but I categorized it as "I'll get to it when I get to it."
Now, when I looked out to the northeast... that was something worth looking at.
another tower, north of Caelid, all on its own. Interesting enough, but behind it...was that a waterfall? A waterfall in the ocean? I remembered that a few times I had seen something weird in the central sea, but to see it confirmed like this... I'll have to get a closer look when I visit Caelid again, something I'm not in any hurry to do.
I returned Liurnia of the Lakes and headed towards the nearest landmark: A church called the "Church of Irith."
Hm. That name. It brought to mind another life. A cold valley bathed in moonlight. A corrupt pontiff. A princess in a tower. The sun realm up above.
The connections were vague here, except that this was a land of the moon, at the foot of the land of the sun.
After picking up the sacred tear, I noticed a man sitting on a bench near the statue. He was one of those guys who just radiates sadness. Not just because he's sad, which he certainly is, but because he makes you sad just looking at him. Like this is someone who has never caught a break in his entire life.
He introduced himself as Thops and said that he'd give me information for a small donation of runes. I was expecting him to be underplaying it, but no. He wanted ten runes. Ten?! That'll hardly get you a meal. I think sheep have more runes than that. Just how hard-up is this guy?
He offered to sell me spells too. Nothing too impressive, but I bought one just out of pity. After that, he told me that i needed a glintstone key to get into the academy, and that he...left his inside. Jeez.
I had to leave him alone before I started spiraling into depression. The man just had a cloud over him. I headed somewhere a little more cheery, like the graveyard.
The skeletons here were a bit more dangerous than elsewhere. Some of them were death sorcerers who summoned skulls with their scythes, while others were hulks with axes that must have been executioners in life. The latter took three pots of holy water to fell, so I might need to think of a new strategy.
I found an Academy Scroll resting on one of the graves. I couldn't decipher it so I took it to Sellen. She informed me that this was typically the place where a "bluntstone" stopped learning. Thops had used the same word to describe himself. I wonder if this was his scroll? Perhaps he left the Academy to visit a friend's grave? That sounds right. It makes him sadder.
Well, not a lot to do here, but it was a good start to my journey through my homeland.
updated with more information. a lot easier to talk to the guy now, but I still don't trust him. One of his men trying to kill me, rogue agent or not, is a bad impression he does nothing to overcome.
((On the 27th, my backlog will run out. At that point, I will go on a (hopefully brief) hiatus. I'll be back to this once I finish the DLC and replay the early areas to refresh myself))

Names: Unknown None
Title/Alias: The Two Fingers
Race: Fingers
Gender: Unknown Irrelevant
Occupation: Messengers
Affiliation: The Greater Will, the Roundtable Hold, The Golden Order
Notes:
Supposedly, these guys speak for the Greater Will.
Need to get Godrick's Great Rune before I can speak to them
I assume there's two of them?
Made assassins of Tarnished who fell from grace.
Hunted other Tarnished
Origin of the Confessors, though whether they actually have any control anymore is doubtful.
Not at all what I expected. They're actual literal fingers.
Finger reader crone speaks for them.
Appear old and decrepit.
Likely can't speak for themselves anymore.
Finger Reader Crone is putting on a puppet show here.
Name: D (short for?)
Title/Alias: Hunter of the Dead
Race: Northerner
Gender: Male
Occupation: Hunter
Affiliation: Golden Order Fundamentalists, Hunters of the Dead, Gurranq
Notes:
Armor either depicts or is designed for conjoined twin
Religious fanatic
Only person to ever make me feel sympathetic to skeletons
Repeating theme of merged silver and gold. Also seen in twinblade.
Are hunters descended from the Confessors? Unlikely
Name: Gurranq
Title/Alias: Beast Clergyman
Race: Beastman
Gender: Male
Occupation: Penitent
Affiliation: Hunters of the Dead
Notes:
Significantly larger than Limgrave beastman. Comparable in size to a Demi-human queen.
Devours deathroot to no apparent ill effect
Sanctum has draconic motif, located in "Greyoll's Dragonbarrow." Change in orthodoxy post-shattering?
Holy symbol represents his own claw, indicating he might be more than he appears. Possible divine connection?
Rough robes and rope around wrists indicates a penitent. What is his sin?
Conclusion: Gurranq was responsible for guarding the Rune of Death and failed in his duties. Now he devours the Deathroot as an act of penance, trying to absorb the Rune into himself. I suspect this is having a negative effect on his mental state. I should be wary of him.
Renna's vision told me that the Rune of Death was stolen from Maliketh the Black Blade.
Either my conclusion is incorrect or Maliketh is an alias of his.
Even if he isn't Maliketh, he still likely carries responsibility.

Name: Godwyn
Title/Alias: The Golden
Race: Demigod (Golden Lineage?)
Gender: Male
Occupation: None (Deceased)
Affiliation: Golden Lineage?, Marika. Godfrey
Notes:
First Demigod to die
Murdered on the Night of Black Knives
Killed using the Rune of Death
Were the Soulless Demigods also killed in the same night?
The images in my death-dream seem more representative than real, like paintings of dramatic events. Still, the marking on his back appears to resemble a centipede
Mark of the Centipede = Rune of Death? Yes, or at least part of it
Golden Lineage descended from Godfrey. Presumably through Godwyn. However, there is no evidence of this yet. Strange.
Was Marika his mother, or a previous queen?
Was Godfrey even his father?
Mutated corpse below Stormveil has some relationship to him.
His death spread the Deathroot throughout the Lands Between
Name: Godfrey
Title/Alias: Lord
Race: Unknown
Gender: Male
Occupation: Lord of Limgrave (former), Marika's Lord (Former)
Affiliation: Golden Lineage, Tarnished
Notes:
Once ruled over Limgrave from Stormveil
Godrick is his descendant (disputed)
Formed the "Golden Lineage," from which Kenneth Haight also descends.
Defeated the Nameless Revenger at Castle Morne.
Was Marika's Lord
First of the Tarnished
Banished along with his followers, to return after death.
First Elden Lord
Possible link to Horah Loux?
What's with the lion?
Shrine statues were replaced with Radagon after his exile.
Marika divorced him for Radagon.
His throne in Stormveil was placed on top of an existing crest
His statue was placed in front of a lion relief
Not the original lord of Stormveil—that was the lion.
Also led the Roundtable Hold—Two Fingers in his chair now.
Never mentioned as Godwyn's father, at least not yet.

Name: Fia
Title/Alias: "The Deathbed Companion"
Race: Seafarer
Gender: Female
Occupation: Companion
Affiliation: None
Notes:
Voice thinks she's important.
Religious beliefs view her bedchamber as an altar.
I'm not one to wax poetic about a pretty face, so all I can say is that since I got here, she's the only person to show me real warmth and tenderness. I know it's her job. I know I'm just a client. But still...
Would lay with champions to take a small portion of their life force, then lay with a deceased lord to revive him.
What will she do with my life force?
Also lays with Rogier, and either D or Gideon. Probably other visitors.
Has an interest in the night of black knives. Is she just helping Rogier, or does she have another agenda?
