What makes Scarecrow’s character motivations so great is the IRONY. He fights against the one thing we’ve suffered from, bullies. He hates the jocks and preps, the popular kids who grow to become popular adults. He can’t stand their attitude and the way the treat those they see as lesser.
But in becoming The Scarecrow, he has become the thing he hates most. A bully. He targets those who hurt him and others like him and he even targets children in some verses! Who else targets children? Bullies.
Rest assured, the iron is not lost on him. He KNOWS he’s become a monster, he just doesn’t care. He believes that fighting back is the right thing, and no one can convince him otherwise, not even the Dark Knight.
