i think my favorite aspect of nwn2's original campaign is how most of the companions don't really like or respect each other, and it takes until act 2-3 for some of them to buddy up, and even then there's not a lot of established friendships between them.
especially the moment you form a full party with khelgar, neeshka and elanee, you can only really agree with one of them and trying to appeal to all of them at once just isn't possible. it gets even more intense down the line with established rivalries like qara/sand, casavir/bishop, zhjaeve/ammon jerro, and so on.
something i hate in most RPGs is how fast some companions just instantly buddy up, even if some would realistically hate each other on sight? i've seen a lot of 'bubbly ball of sunshine' and 'cold, callous' characters just getting perfectly along the moment they meet and it's such a turn-off. like, they don't beef, they don't express anything negative about each other, it feels unrealistic imo.
it's just really cool to see your party absolutely JUMPING each other even over the most trivial things, it's really entertaining and actually adds some tension among the group, you're always on edge wondering who's gonna beef next, and nwn2 makes a huge point of how much your companions trust you because it may or may not come to bite you in the ass in the end, since surprise surprise, your choices matter!
might get the new star wars tactics game with the express purpose of recreating as many kotor and kotor 2 companions as possible.
me, grandma, and my boys bao-dur and atton will ride again.
The cold wind hits your face.
The boat rocks gently beneath you.
The last rays of sunlight are still warm against your skin.
You notice a single ginkgo leaf drifting past.
Rank achieved.
Here's proof how drastically becoming a death guard in the PoE world changes a person: this is Inquisitor Lödwyn before her transformation, on the Deadfire Archipelago, successfully tricked into believing she killed many innocent people for nothing:
Shaken, doubtful, remorseful.
Far from the zealot you meet in Avowed.

If it's 100 percent canon that Arkemyr reeks of filth and imps while occasionally calling on his pals via magical videos, can we dub him Eora's very own Asmongold
Hi Baldur's Gate 3, this is Neverwinter Nights 2; Neverwinter Nights 2, this is Baldur's Gate 3!!
shake hands, polite greeting, restrained friendly laugh
Neverwinter Nights 2 here has a shadow cursed part of the map! It was caused because a guardian of an ancient empire became powered by the Shadow Weave during the events of Karsus's Folly! Isn't that neat?
And Baldur's Gate 3: you also have Karsus, a shadow curse, and Shar's domain!
points a gun at both of them
Now mingle or else!! ٩( ᐛ )۶
I think it's the hundred and twenty years and a Spellplague getting between them.
Oh, nonsense. Look! They both have githyanki! They're practically twinsies!
...
this may be horniest thing I've worked on
noticing a pattern where all my favorite rpg protagonists (the watcher of caed nua, the envoy, the kalach-cha, etc.) have some sort of mystery surrounding their past that plays a fundamental role in the story.
i mean, obviously one would hope that the main character of the game you're playing is connected to the main plot, but i love the idea of some aspect of the character that is both unbeknownst to the character and the player (as an aside: i think this is why i'm so taken with the concept of a warlock who derives their power from the unknowable). this is especially important when the player character isn't a predefined person like commander shepard or geralt.
idk it seems a little self-evident to me, yet when thinking about how i find the watcher's journey in pillars to be so much more emotionally resonant in the first game than in deadfire, there's definitely degrees to it. their backstory in the first game is crafted so intrinsically to the plot that neither works without the other. in deadfire, while their backstory is still a strongly tied to the events of the plot vis a vis their status with the gods, there are any number of ways a different character could take the watcher's place in the story.
the envoy's position in avowed is as intrinsic as the watcher's in pillars 1. but where the two deviate, and why i found pillars to have an order of magnitude more catharsis, is that the watcher's past life with iovara provides an extra layer of extremely personal drama to anchor the otherwise extremely high minded themes about divinity, religion, and science.
dunno what my thesis is here, really. go play pillars and nwn2 and avowed.
When I was a kid I thought Master Chief was gender fluid bc I didn't understand who Cortana was so anytime she talked I just thought it was chief being a girl for that sentence

i would contend that there could be an entire vast subgenre of rpg solely about killing god.
truly a concept without end.
i really should get around to writing a fan screenplay of a movie about the saint's war and the godhammer.
spoilers: durance features heavily. everybody's favorite odious and bigoted priest.

Rare moment of comfort (and calm Bishop)
i feel like we’d get bishneeshka crumbs if nwn2 was made nowadays <3
sometimes i just like to sit here and think about my favorite universes and point at them and say "there should be a stealth game set here"
halo? stealth game
eora? yeah sure. make it stealth
destiny? stealth game
forgotten realms? hell yeah
zero parades? fuckin ripe for it
splinter cell? well i mean they should just make another one i beg.
Truly the character introduction of all times saw it in a TikTok compilation, @ thatfunnyho
