Jake put his arms around Brooke when she got comfortable in his lap and secured herself around his neck. The position was comforting and showed neither was pulling away even while discussing something as difficult as Tyler. Â âI didnât tell anyone because who was there to tell? I wasnât going to narc. I didnât think youâd need the warning. I never saw anything happening between you two. I guess I canât always spot it the way I thought.â With Branson, Jake caught on before anyone. He always paid close attention to Brooke. She would try to cover it, but Jake was excellent with a shovel. When he eventually figured it out, he didnât out her. He let her believe he âthoughtâ it was some college dude playing head games with her. But he knew the truth â Branson was playing her. How did he know? Well, because he wasnât just watching her. Jake followed Branson expecting for him to be meeting up with Brooke, but instead of the girl being Brooke, it was Miss Lang. Mr. B was going back and forth between the two. If it were anyone else, Jake might have admired it. But not Brooke. Nobody screws with Brooke. And, he was jealous, and just waiting for the guy to screw up. Jake couldnât understand why Brooke broke things off before France and then ignored him. But now he knew. Tyler was feeding her lies. He poisoned her with his venom in France and latched onto her. If it wasnât for Tyler, they may have been together instead of Brooke going through shitty dude after shitty dude. Both Tyler and Branson were just using her for sex. She was a forbidden fruit to both. Which is why Jake didnât want that with Brooke. He didnât want to be her secret like Seth and Tyler. And that was why when she asked him to marry her, he knew it would be real. It was the only sure thing that would bring them back.
âIâm not gonna die.â Jake snorted with a small laugh. Like every other douche his age, Jake didnât believe anything would ever catch up to him. Like Brooke pointed-out, he thought he was invincible. Itâs why he never backed down to people. He spent his high school career molding the product that is the Jake: rock hard, fearless, and crazy in love with the one and only Miss Maddox. However, Jake 2.0 meant being a little less brazen and a little more careful. Especially now. Jake wasnât just the Jake anymore. He was a husband. He has to keep his queen safe in other ways than running into creepy old buildings to save the day. If he wanted to protect his girl, he has to stand by her, on guard. âBut, I get what youâre sayinâ and I promise to be chivalrous in a more advanced way. Instead of snatchinâ the shark out of the ocean, Iâll just keep you away from any ocean.â With a playful smirk, Jake leaned in and kissed the blondeâs smooth lips with a heart that races just for her. âNow that weâve disabled Quinnâs cameras⌠How about,â Jakeâs tan fingers slide up Brookeâs shirt and squeezes around her hips, âwe forget about the shark⌠and make love in his failed attempt to pull us apart?â Rotating his hips, Jake lays Brooke down on her messy bed and leans across her chest, kissing her lips while his warm fingers unbutton her skinny jeans.
A girlish shriek, playful in itâs delivery, spills from her baby pink lips. Instinctively, Brook wraps her tiny legs around his waist to stay upright as Jake carries her and lays her down on her messy bed. Feathers ripped from her pillows, were sprawled out like confetti across the ruffled bedsheets. Already, they stuck to her hair and back as Jake hovered above her chest and silenced her gasps with tantalizing kisses that left her dizzy and excited. Brooke was still, but eventually raised her hips so that Jake had enough leeway to peel back the layers of her skinny jeans separating them. âMm,â Brooke hummed against her newlywedâs lips as her fingers fumbled with the ends of his shirt prior to pulling it off.
As soon as Jake leaned back and raised his arms, Brookeâs eyes fell to his torso lidded in scratches and bruises. With his shirt discarded to the floor, Brooke used her free hands to gently caress the purplish-gray marks on his honey-tanned skin. âDo they hurt?â Brooke wondered sweetly, while craning her head to kiss the bruises. She made sure she was careful, worried she might hurt him. âYouâre still beautiful,â Brooke confessed with a teasing smile. The look in her eyes, all glittery and shimmering, only proved she meant the observation despite her taunting grin.
viraldoosh:
Jake wasnât sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing that Tyler and Brooke never really spoke much. It was good, because it meant their relationship wasnât deep. But it was also bad, because that meant they were fucking constantly. Jake wasnât able to stomach them having sex once â knowing that it was multiple times kills him. Itâs stupid to think youâre going to be your loveâs first and only, but was it so stupid to think your love wouldnât sleep with your enemy behind your back? Jake tried not to let it bother him anymore but truth was, there was still times when its harder to digest. As Jake was looking down, thinking of Tyler and Brooke together, she snapped his attention back to reality. She was asking if he wanted the truth? Yes. He wanted to know what happened. He wanted to know why Tyler lost it and began breaking peopleâs arms for her.
When Brooke started back in France, Jake took a seat on her vanity chair. He knew if he continued to stand his knees would shake. Though, he was preparing himself to be stabbed repetitively by her truth, he was at least alleviated to know that she knew he wasnât really on the prowl for any girls in Paris. He wanted to win Brooke back but Tyler turned it into a competition and won.
Jake remained quiet as Brooke went into one of her memories. He wasnât mad that this was the first time he was hearing of it. It wasnât like he needed to know every haunting secret. Monica had a closet full of them and Jake was sure this wasnât the first or the last time she betrayed Brooke. The memory was sad and thatâs what Tyler wanted. Itâs why he told her sad stories about his foster homes. He wanted to humanize himself. He wanted Brooke to see him as someone she could relate to. So he told her sad stories so sheâd comfort him. Tyler wouldnât have shared those stories for any other reason but to get in her pants.
â
âYou take a piece of every person you meet. They rub off on you. Itâs why weâre so in sync. Itâs why Myles knows Quinn will be okay. Tyler grew up with animals and so he became one. I canât justify why he does what he does, but he doesnât have remorse. He wasnât apologizing at the warehouse. Heâs not going to apologize, ever. Heâs a sociopath. When I met him⌠he had a few tattoos which I thought was strange for a fourteen-year-old. But other than that, I didnât see anything wrong with him. Until he started showing me his idea of fun. It wasnât basketball or video games. He liked knocking on the devils door and running. Drugs, knives, threatening people⌠He was in and out of juvie. When he was fifteen he would wait outside of bars and beat up the drunks and rob them. At sixteen he was drugging people. Thatâs why I thought he drugged you at Pharm. Now heâs seventeen and breaking into houses. Heâs getting worse. By the time heâs eighteen Iâm sure heâll be killing people. But not yet. I think if Tyler wanted to kill us, he would have. He does everything in stages and it seems like heâs psyching himself up for it. He could have shot me in the back of the head but he hit me with the gun instead. I donât know if we should be comforted by that? Iâm just hoping he doesnât swing by my house next. I donât know if heâd try to hurt my mom. He smacked your dad over the head with a pipe in the warehouse. Thatâs why I went after him⌠I need him caught.â
Brooke didnât like recalling her and Tylerâs history (if one could even call it that) any more than Jake liked hearing it. Which, he didnât, by the way. And thus, she didnât enjoy it either. She didnât enjoy feeling guilty for betraying him. She didnât enjoy hurting him. And she definitely didnât enjoy how the details continued to haunt and torment Jake. He, like herself, had various tells. She knew when something bothered him. The topic of her and Tyler, especially. Brooke understood that. In Jakeâs position, sheâd be bothered too. And there was a strong chance sheâd never really get over it. Just like he might not. Jake, however, was much more forgiving than Brooke was. She was her fatherâs daughter when it came to how she dealt with betrayal. Quinn didnât take it lightly, if at all. And neither did she.
âWhy didnât you tell anyone?â Brooke wondered, after Jake finished his story about Tyler. It was obvious, he had a lot more philosophy about Tyler than anyone else. Maybe even Nina. He saw Tyler in ways many others didnât until it was too late. Moving closer, Brooke laid herself to rest hesitantly on Jakeâs lap. Her legs dangled over the side of his right thigh, spilling down towards the floor while her arms looped around his neck. This position, was close to the one theyâd been in when Jake first asked Brooke to give Noelâs pharm party a chance. It was odd how things between them came full circle. But, Brooke was glad they were back together. And hoped that from this day forward, that would never really change. âI know that, Jake,â Brooke sighed. She understood why he wanted Tyler caught and charged for his crimes. She wanted the same. But, she didnât want Jake to risk his life in the process, or risk everything else just for that. She lost him once, she never wanted to lose him again. âBut,--â Brooke paused to take a deep, thoughtful breath. âYou canât keep running into the line of fire. Youâre not invincible, Jake. As much as I wish you were, youâre not. And not only would losing you kill me, -- and I mean literally kill me, Iâd never forgive myself if something happened to you. I know you just want to protect me but, if something happens to you, something bad, -- who will be left to protect me then?â
viraldoosh:
Jake knew they were pawns. It was obvious. Though maybe not to Brooke at first. Tyler and Nina always had their own agenda. All of the blackmail and all of the drama, it was always stirred by Riverwoodâs very own Joker and Harley Quinn. They loved chaos. And when they hit that off switch on their relationship, Tyler tried continuing the games with a new partner, Brooke. Jake looked at Brooke for a long moment before she grabbed something hard from Quinnâs desk and hurled it at the wall. Having a bit of PTSD, Jake flinched away from her. Her outburst was reflective to what they saw on the security footage. She was just as angry as Tyler. For different reasons of course, but the result was the same. She wanted chaos and blood.
âLook, I canât believe Iâm saying this but, killinâ Tyler? I wouldnât have let you. Thatâs what he wanted. You heard him. He said killing him would have been like some sort of imprinting. It would haunt you. Tyler is going to get his. We just gotta get your stuff and lay low until heâs found.â Jake hoped Brooke knew he had her back. If Tyler were to show back up, heâd break his neck. It wouldnât haunt him in the same way. He didnât share anything intimate with Tyler. And whether the memory killed her or not, she had given herself to Tyler multiple times within the span of a year. Jake knew for a fact that Brooke only had sex with him before France, which meant Tyler was her second. Maybe they were on drugs every time and maybe she was manipulated, but in those moments she felt something with him; taking his life, with her own hands, would destroy her mind.
âCâmon. We know heâs not in the house⌠and Quinn will be happy we took these.â After stuffing the tapes in his hoodie, Jake grabbed her hand and walked back to her bedroom. This time, he wasnât as on edge. He relaxed some, picking up items of clothes that were strewn across her floor; including things from her lingerie drawer. It was probably where he got the pair of black panties he threw at them in the warehouse. âIf I ask you a question about some of thisâŚwould you get mad?â He waited a moment before continuing, âwhat did you guys talk about? The times you were with him. I mean, it couldnât have been all â â he swallows the word âsexâ and stutters before continuing ââ Iâm just wondering what could make someone do this? I was full-blown devastated and this never would have crossed my mindâŚâ Jake lifts a broken picture frame of Quinn and Brooke: last yearâs carnival. Tyler obviously hated seeing the two happy. Jake looked around some more. There used to be pictures of them together too, but they were all gone.Â
Since when did Jake believe Tylerâs press? He was insane. His philosophies were hardly considered gospel. Let alone, were anything worth taking into account. At the same time, killing was an intimate act. It was personal and permanent. More so than a tattoo. So in that respect, Jake was right. Therefore Brooke didnât argue otherwise. Besides, she wasnât actually serious. Deep down, no matter how vile and horrible both; Tyler and Nina were, Brooke couldnât actually kill them. Nor could she bring herself to inflict them any harm. She wasnât that kind of person. Her heart was too big for that. It was a blessing as much as it was a curse in times like this.
When Jake broke the silence, ushering her back to her room, Brooke accepted his hand willingly. From this moment on, (or really ever since they said their vows), Jake never had to ask Brooke twice. Sheâd follow him anywhere. To heaven or to hell. Wherever he went, she was sure to tag along. While Jake helped Brooke stuff some clothes and other belongings she wished to hold into a bag, he proposed a curious question that seemed to be weighing heavily on his mind. âHonestly,--â Brooke sighed. It mightâve sounded like she was about to read Jake the riot act for even bringing it up, but she actually didnât blame him for being curious. Itâs who he was. Even if he hated the details, (which she was sure he still did), he needed to know. Because the only way for him to understand and move past it was to make sense of it, process it, and go about his days. âNot a whole lot.â That was true to some extent. It wasnât like they would sit around and swap stories in front of a crinkling fire while they made love. It was never romantic. Brooke wasnât even sure Tyler had a genuine romantic bone in his body. The most she and Tyler had ever talked was that night in France. The very first night where it all started. âI mean, if you want the truth,â -- Brooke paused but she already knew she was going to continue because she knew what it was that Jake wanted, -- the truth. âThe most w--â She couldnât bring herself to say we as if they were conjoined in any way, â--Him and I ever talked was that night in France. When we left the club because I saw you with Nina and he convinced me you were on the prowl for  a new girl though you werenât.â Brooke sighed, angry at herself for believing the devilâs son in the first place. âHe told me about a few of his foster homes. I felt bad. I sympathized with him, I guess. I shared a personal story about my mom. Something Iâve never really told anyone. Partly because itâs embarrassing but also because Iâve done my best not to dwell or hold it against her.â Brooke knew sheâd end up sharing the story with Jake, âThis happened a really long time ago. I didnât tell you because I guess, I didnât want you to think differently of her. And for the longest time I didnât really grasp the severity of my motherâs addiction. To cocaine. One night after wrapping up one of my ballet recitals, my dad couldnât make it in time to pick me up so my mom was supposed to. She was over four hours late and when I got in the car, she kept sniffling and rubbing her nose. I thought she had been crying or something. We stopped at the store on our way home. She had been driving a little recklessly that night. I mean, I had no idea what a coke addict looked like. I didnât even know what coke was other than a brand of soda. Anyways, she told me she needed to grab some milk but she abandoned me in the car for another hour. I used her phone to call my dad and he sent Angus, Tylerâs foster dad to come get me. I assume he didnât just call your parents because they werenât home. I told Tyler this in France while we both drank wine. Itâs not like we had any sort of real relationship with each other. And I know you hate to hear this but it was just sex and getting high. And you know, maybe heâs just insane. Maybe Tyler fixates on certain things and only moves on after he destroys them. Heâs crazy. And Iâm sure you donât need me to tell you that because you saw it too, firsthand. Before anyone else.â
viraldoosh:
As Brooke fell into a seat at the foot of her bed with tormented wonder Jake sat down next to her and rubbed her knee. Why did Tyler latch onto her of all people? He could have had anyone⌠Maybe that was the point. Brooke was the one girl he couldnât have. At the time, she belonged to Jake. Having sex with her was like getting to taste forbidden fruit. There was something sexy about fucking someone who belonged to someone else. It felt like winning. While Jake was miserable over something he couldnât have, Tyler was enjoying it. It made him feel superior. So when Tyler lost her to Jake, he felt the opposite. He became the inferior. The loser. âThis is Tylerâs fault, not yours.â Although a part of Jake knew it was somewhat her fault too. She chose to bail him out of jail and climb into his car to seduce him. Did she know all this would come out of it? No. Did Jake think she deserved it? No. âHeâs clearly pissed off. Itâs his game. Why do you think Nina flirted with Will in public? It was to capture an audience. They do these things to get back at each other. Tyler thinks this is the norm. Heâs expecting you to retaliate. Itâs the foreplay.â Same as it was at Pharm. Tyler belittling Brooke and saying sheâs nothing. A part of the game was to break down the otherâs confidence and have them crawling back for approval. âBrooke, you canât blame yourself for Tyâs rage.â The only thing that was Brookeâs direct fault was allowing herself to cheat on Jake. Everything else was just Tyler. She couldnât control him. Kicking peopleâs ass was a part of who he is; fucking and fighting his way to hell.
âEverything in here is replaceable right? Youâre safe, Iâm safe, Quinnâs safe. Letâs count our blessings and get out of here.â As Jake stood up from the mattress, he turned around near the doorway. His features were twisted in a way that showed he had something going on behind his dark-brown eyes. âRemember when he came here and we saw him carving up your front door? Why donât we just check the cams again?â A part of him wanted to make sure Tyler wasnât still in the house and another part of him wanted to see what he was after. Did he come there cocked, loaded, and ready to kill? Or was the message on Brookeâs vanity a love letter?
After entering Quinnâs office, Jake lingered back as Brooke punched in all the codes to replay the recorded footage. When they finally got to the intruders, the time stamp read: 11/17/17. A week before they got back. âIs that Tyler?â Jake was squinting as two guys in ghost masks wandered the house, breaking everything in their path. After a couple of minutes they disappeared into Brookeâs room. âNo spy zoneâŚâ Jake sighed. âFast-forward it.â After around 7-minutes both figures left the room, but now the one was screaming at the other. âBullshit, Nina! I helped you bug everyone at school, I helped you get dirt on Branson! I did every-fucking-thing! I am the motherfucking brains of this operation, you slut-bag bitch!âI blackmailed Quinn, I filmed Will fucking Emma, I DID IT ALLâ Jakeâs back straightened out as he stood up and shook his head with disbelief. âThatâs Ty, right? Tyler, and he said Nina. She was probably the one in the warehouse, too.â Jake knew it! He knew it was Nina. Tyler was lying when he said it wasnât. âHe said it wasnât Nina and I knew he was lying. Those screams we heard were to lure us out there so they could finish the job.â
While Jake tried for sympathy, a part of Brooke could tell that he believed what happened was a product of her own making. Therefore, he blamed her. And it wasnât a feeling that Brooke could really stomach. Then again, wasnât it what she deserved for cheating on him? For breaking his trust after he gave her his heart? Though Jake attempted to reassure her and she was grateful, Brooke didnât say anything. She merely nodded and cracked a soft, sad smile. Her way of saying âthank youâ for trying before he stood up and made his desires to leave right away, very clear. He didnât give her much time to sort through the damage and disarray or collect a few things before he made his way towards the door. But, then he stopped to address a thought that mustâve occurred to him in the last few seconds.Â
When Jake turned back around to face her, there was something dark and ominous growing behind his naturally-smoldering gaze, His eyebrows twisted in consideration as he brought up taking another look at her fatherâs security footage. If the intruder knew her, and if it was Tyler, then there was a strong chance he would have disabled it. Nevertheless, Brooke followed Jake back downstairs to her fatherâs office if only to find out one way or another. To her surprise, and perhaps Jakeâs, the security footage remained in tact. Brooke helped Jake take a look by punching in the security codes her dad set up which only she had access to. Then, an image appeared on screen. Two figures in ghostface masks entered her house and began destroying the place. After they went into her room, Brooke obliged Jake by fast forwarding and stopped when the figures re-emerged. Brooke listened carefully to the strangers words as they engaged in a heated dispute. One was obviously Tyler and soon the other made herself known as, Nina. âSo this whole time we were all just pawns in their little game?â The question was reflective. It wasnât meant to be answered. Slamming her fatherâs laptop shut, Brooke stood up. His rolling chair scooted across the hardwood floor as she walked around the desk to stare at Jake. Anger brewed inside her small, shaky frame. She had been bottling up so much emotion and heartache and rage that it kind of just exploded? Taking a heavy book end statue off her fatherâs desk, Brooke hurled it at the opposing wall and screamed. It felt good just to let it out. âI should have shot him. I should have shot both of them!â She cried. She didnât actually mean any of it. Brooke would never harm a fly. But, still. She was so angry and so hurt and felt so violated. Both, Nina and Tyler violated her in so many different ways that it made her skin crawl. She just wanted to light herself on fire to rid herself of them. Not literally. Because, then sheâd die and that would be incredibly painful but you know..Â

noel-khn:
With all the big events that had been happening in Riverwood recently it had impacted a lot of peoples lives, just not Noelâs. He woke up every morning, ate his cereal, went to school, planned some parties, and went to bed. Nothing had changed, and now after Tylerâs passing it was still the same. He didnât have any beef with the guy to be happy about him being gone, like a lot of people were, but he also wasnât his best friend so he wasnât seriously grieving the loss either. Noel had been lucky in this sense, that nothing bad had happened to him or someone he cared about.
Walking down the halls in a world of his own, eager to get as far away from his class as possible he accidentally knocked into Brooke. âMy bad, gotta start watching where Iâm going,â Noel apologized, bending down to help pick up her books.âYou know this is how all bad romcoms start, right? The good looking guy helps pick up books for the girl who ends up ââ He started to say when he saw the girls tear-filled eyes. Awkwardly stopping mid-sentence he didnât know what to say. âAre you alright? Do you need me to go get someone?â
Ignoring Noelâs synopsis of how most bad romcoms started, Brooke continued scooping up her books only to later clutch them close against her chest once she finally got a decent enough grip. His question which followed shortly after his awkward concern, triggered memories Brooke would have rather forgot. The same question about whether or not she needed him to get someone was the same question Tyler asked her at Noelâs pharmaceutical party a few weeks ago when Tyler took her into a bedroom intoxicated. Right before a fight broke out between Tyler and Jake all because Jake had assumed that Tyler took advantage of her. That was the party that set so many other bad things and events in motion. Looking up at Noel, all Brooke could see was Tylerâs face. It was like she was hallucinating him on Noel Kahnâs body. âGet away from me!â Brooke screamed as she threw her books down at Noelâs feet (who she still believed was Tyler) prior to backing away. Despite knowing Tyler was dead, that fact didnât register. And it wasn't until she whipped her phone out and started dialing 9-1-1 or talked to an operator that she realized, âPlease help! Tyl--â His full name never left her lips. And when the thought registered, Brooke hung up and blinked, staring back at Noel with an intense cloud of fear in her eyes. âI--,â She wasnât sure what to say? Sorry? Sorry for accusing him of being a deranged psychopath who was now rotting in some lab as city officials and medical examiners tried to solve the gruesome puzzle of what happened to him.Â

âshit..â archie groaned as the body collided into his right arm, his eyes closing tightly as he felt the pain surge through. he was still annoyed about the fact he couldnât do much. being at school was basically pointless considering he couldnât write and if he was even going to use a laptop, it would take him so long to type one sentence. at this point, he was just gathering the teacherâs notes and staying at home. there was a highlight to being principal blossomâs favourite, even if it was deceptive of him to advantage of it. the redhead was just about to brush it all off, tell the other person not to worry about it, but then he saw the tear fall from brookeâs face. âhey..â he whispered, crouching down to help her. he moved to put the books on his cast, balancing them as best as he could as he stood up. âbrooke.â archie addressed, hoping to catch her attention. âitâs nice to see you again. are⌠are you alright??â he could see the pure fear in her eyes, something that worried him instantly. âcan i walk you somewhere??â
Brooke didnât want to cry. She didnât want anyone to see the chink in her armor. Besides, she wasnât the best liar. And so any excuse she came up with trying to explain what was wrong would just sound like complete, utter bullshit. It was hard to pretend to be okay when you were constantly reminded of all the reasons why you shouldnât be. Jake, her dad, Ronnie, Noah, and now even, Archie. They were all victims of Tylerâs abuse. And Brooke couldnât help but look at Archie and feel guilty. If she had never gotten involved with Tyler, he would have never come to town. He would have never harassed her friends and their friends looking for her. Part of Brooke felt like she owed Archie an apology. âIâm sorry,â she muttered after wiping the few tears that escaped the banks of her eyelids. She wasnât just sorry for bumping into him or his injured hand but for the fact that he was injured in the first place. âItâs all my fault,â she told him while shaking her head with genuine remorse. When she finally looked up, Archie stared back at her with genuine concern. âHave you seen Jake?â Brooke wondered. Her fear clogged her memory. She couldnât recall which class he was supposed to be in but, she really needed to find him. He was the only one who would be able to help. âI really need to find him.â With trembling hands, Brooke started off down the hall, assuming Archie would probably follow. âHelp me find him please.â
viraldoosh:
Jake knew she could feel it too. It was in the air. The feeling of not belonging. The safe house in Lakesdale had become their home. Jake already missed the living room they turned into a fortress, the kitchen they shared many food fights in, and the upstairs bedroom where they made love over and over and over again until they were sore. Being back felt like a step down. As Brooke turned to him and grabbed onto his forearm, Jake followed her eyes back to her house next door. The last time they were there, they saw Tyler carving a snake into her door with a hunting knife. Whoâs to say he wasnât back? âOkayâŚâ Jake sighed as Brooke mentioned grabbing some clothes. He wasnât going to tell her he was nervous but he was. All Jakeâs life he was the playful monkey, it hadnât been until high school when he turned into a lion. Jake wasnât as fearless or as psycho as he liked the world to believe. It was all a mask. Riverwood High was full of âem. The emo. The nerd. The cheerleader. And the jock. Jake ditched his clown shoes for cleats. He knew who he had to be to survive: One of the populars. âYeah, letâs go.â Jake wrapped his long, tanned arm around her skinny waist and held her close to his side as they crossed the starlit lawn.
The snake was still on the front door; watching them both with menacing eyes. It was like Tyler was still looking at them. Jake waited until Brooke unlocked the house and when they entered something immediately felt off. Some lights were left on and there was glass all over the floor. âBabe!â Jake pulled her back and gripped his arms around her. Tyler could be in the house right now. Jakeâs heart was pounding so fast. All he could hear was his pulse racing. âStay by the door. Donât move.â Jake warned. He looked for a weapon and settled on a candle holder. âYo! Tyler, this isnât funny, man. Brooke doesnât want you! Sheâs never going to want you!â Jake inched further into each room, seeing more and more damage. Tables were flipped, portraits were smashed, and Brookeâs bedroom was turned upside down. On her vanity mirror was a message written in her lipstick: âNever stop looking upâ with a drawing of a moon. Jake recalled Tylerâs tattoo at the warehouse when he removed the poncho. It was a picture of the moon. A memento to the night they shared together while Brooke was cheating on him. Jake tried not to judge again but he just felt sick and instinctively held onto his stomach. Backing up out of the room, Jake bumped into something and quickly turned around with the candle holder raised threateningly over his head. When he realized it was Brooke, he sighed and lowered the weapon. âItâs Tyler.â he pointed the candlestick at the mirror.
While Jake might have thought that he was keeping his inner turmoil and anxiousness to himself, he wasnât. Perhaps, he forgot that Brooke knew him better than anyone. The same as he knew her. She could tell when something was off, or when he was nervous or upset or mad about something. Right now was no exception. Brooke could tell that he was feeling anxious about going back to her house. So was she but, she didnât know what else to do. Granted, the second Jake agreed, Brooke actually started second guessing the idea. What if Jakeâs suspicions were right? What if Tyler came back to finish the job? What if he knew theyâd go home and was waiting in her room to ambush them? Holding onto Jakeâs hand tightly, Brooke crossed the lawn with her newlywed and entered her house. It took Brooke a minute to take in her surroundings. The place looked like itâd been trashed. And the scary part was, that it could have been anyone. The Serpents, Tyler, some other enemy of her dadâs. Maybe even Nina? She hated Brooke enough that she could con some jocks into doing her dirty work. Stage an attack just to push Brooke back out. At this point, the suspect could have been anyone. Tyler had taught Brooke not to trust anyone.Â
âWhat?! No!â Brooke spluttered when Jake ordered her to wait by the door. She was hit with deja vu. Jake basically told her the same thing right before he walked into the warehouse and she didnât know if heâd come back out or not. Brooke tried to grab Jakeâs hand before he got away, to pull him back but her fingers clutched onto empty air instead. She was wearing sandals so she couldnât really step over the glass to get to him. She had to find another way around. Which is exactly what she did. âJake?â Brooke called out softly, and frightfully as she inched further and further upstairs. She jumped when he crossed the threshold out of her bedroom raising the candle holder in his grasp like he was about to strike her down because he thought she mightâve been Tyler. In the same breath, he turned his attention over to the mirror and pointed to the message written in her Raspberry Dream shade lipstick. Brooke brushed past Jake gently as she entered her room to find it in complete disarray. The sheets were rumpled, the feathers in her pillows were everywhere, like puffy white confetti and there were things thrown on the floor and from her closet. âWhy me?â Brooke wondered with a fallen expression. She plopped down to sit on the bed and stared at the damage around her. Why did this happen to her? To them? Was she that much of a terrible human being that this was her karmic justice? Was this what she got for cheating on him? Jake would never say it out loud but she knew a part of him probably blamed her for bringing Tyler into their lives this way. âThis is all my fault, isnât it?â It was the first time Brooke had really allowed herself to break down. And she wasnât looking for Jake to coddle her or console her. She just needed to let it out. Otherwise, she mightâve just gone crazy. âEverything thatâs happened,â she cried and hiccuped, âis all because of me. Iâm the reason everyone I care about has gotten hurt. You. --, My dad --, Ronnie --, Noah --, probably even Riley and Emma because I havenât heard from them. I hurt everyone and I really donât mean to I swear,â Brooke paused to wipe her eyes, smearing her make up from the parade until she looked like a wacky, skiddish raccoon. She was positive she didnât look all that attractive right now but she was too upset, and too guilt ridden to care.

As Myles and Vera discharged Jake and walked with him and Brooke to the truck, Jake had trouble quelling the eerie feeling in his gut telling him to keep looking over his shoulder. Tyler had to be following them. He wouldnât have given up that easily, not after pointing a gun at all three of their heads. Nobody was safe, not even Quinn; which was why Jake wasnât going to let him stay at the hospital overnight, alone. There was a bond between them now â a sense of loyalty that couldnât be broken until the job was done. He promised Quinn that Brooke would be safe, but if her father was murdered by her ex-fling, that would surely wreck her psychosis. In a way, Brooke brought this guy into their lives. If she wasnât having sex with a psycho, he would have never entered their lives with a gun and knife. Jake of course wouldnât blame Brooke for this, but he knew sheâd be blaming herself.
When Vera turned to Brooke and questioned the rock on her finger, Jakeâs eyes narrowed with suspense crawling into his stomach. It had only been 5-months since Vera gave that ring to Jake in Mexico. He was supposed to hold onto it. Save it for the right moment. Sure, that moment might have never come with a killer on the loose, but was that all this was? A just in case? If so, Vera would slap him upside his blockhead. As Brooke started off, nervously smiling before giving him the floor, Jake hugged his mother and whispered in her ear âIâve been married since I was seven, mom. The ring just makes it official.â Bringing his head back with a smile playing at the corners of his lips, Vera pinched one of his dimpled cheeks and shook her head with tender disbelief and mucho amor. âI knew you would get engaged someday. I didnât know so soon! But the heart wants what it wants. Iâm happy the two of you have made such strides. Just last week you were barely speaking.â It was obvious Vera was confused but also understanding. Jake inherited his need-to-know-all from her. Vera wanted the full story. âWe did get engaged and then we got married at a private little chapel.â Noting the way Veraâs eyes grew bigger and sadder, Jake smiled reassuringly while rubbing her shoulders. âWeâre going to have a bigger wedding with everyone invited. This was just something we wanted to do for us. Trust me, itâs still going to be amazeballs.â Vera and Brooke both grimace at the same time, âyou marry him and he still speaks like imbĂŠcil? Iâd give you a concussion if you didnât already have one.â Vera appeared serious until her features gave way for a Fitzgerald-esque smirk. âIâm happy for you two, I am. But Iâm coming to the next wedding!â with an elated whine, Vera pulled them all together; even Myles, who had been quiet up until now. âYouâve had my blessing at seven-years-old. You have it now. You both have shared a relationship longer than most couples our age. Thereâs always been a love between the two of you. I donât think any of us really understood. Jake, you drove her crazy, and Brooke you had him wrapped around your finger since diapers. Heâd do anything for you. And I know youâd do anything for him. Thatâs not something you grow into⌠itâs something you have or you donât. You guys have shared that for sixteen years. Congratulations.â Myles was never a man of many words but their special moment struck his muse. A muse he thought had died years ago. âCan I DJ your second wedding?â Jake snorted and laughed, thinking of that CD Myles threw out the car window. âSure,â he shook his head and gave Brooke an eye roll: sorry.
ââIs Quinn safe here?â Jake asked after all the commotion died down to a minimum. âI mean, he did have some people after him, right? What if they come back?â as happy as everyone just was, now there was a dark cloud sitting where the sun had been. âHeâs the mayor. Thereâs police inside and outside his room. No one is getting in there. Trust me, nobody knows Quinn Maddox like me. Just as you and Brooke go back to the cradle, Quinn and I do, too. I donât know if youâve heard this story before, Brooke. But, Quinn and I were actually switched at birth for like, three days before they realized it. I got the gold crib and he got the hand-me-down one made of old wood. Our families were always close. Still, they didnât realize it until the hospital called.â In high school Myles would tease Quinn that he was breastfed by his mom for three days. That part of the story Myles would leave out. âThe message Iâm sending is, gold crib or cardboard boxâŚQuinn Maddox is a survivor.â
It wasnât like Brooke expected Myles and Vera to overreact or even declare that they made a mistake. Out of everyone they knew, Jakeâs parents were always the most supportive of their relationship. Vera especially, encouraged Jake to always be the perfect gentleman for Brooke and Myles did much of the same. They knew, much like Jake did from birth, that this was always meant to happen. Whether at sixteen, twenty five or even thirty. The love had always been there between them and it always would be. Nothing and no one could change that. No matter how hard they tried. And maybe thatâs where Tyler failed or came up short. He couldnât break their love. It would take not existing at all to do that. And Tyler was no magician. He couldnât erase history or rewrite it. âThank you,â Brooke uttered sweetly to Jakeâs parents, while continuing to hold Jake in her arms. She was happy and didnât want to let go of him.
But while she held on, Brooke could sense Jakeâs imminent unease. He was afraid to leave Quinn alone much like she was. Tyler could always come back and finish the job if he wanted to. And hell, maybe this time he would bring back up. However, Myles assured them that Quinn was a warrior. And the same Jake had been preaching to Brooke the whole time they were held up in the safe house. Some part of him mustâve still believed that. Even warriors take a good hit every once in awhile but what made them great warriors was their abilities to get back up. To heal, and then keep on fighting. âNo,â Brooke shook her head with a small laugh as Myles retold the story of how his relationship with Quinn came to be. âI actually didnât know that.â Somehow, hearing about her fatherâs past humanized him more. Truthfully, Quinn kept a lot of details of the past to himself. He didnât share much with Brooke, and tried to protect her from things about himself and about Monica that she was better off not knowing. Leaning up, Brooke kissed Jakeâs chin and then smiled at Myles and Vera. âHeâs right,â Brooke reminded Jake. And it was funny how it was her dad but Jake was the one who needed convincing. âMy dadâs tough. Weâve seen that firsthand.â Neither Myles nor Vera would understand the reference but Jake would. Sometimes, her father seemed almost immortal. Though, he wouldnât live forever. âCâmon babe, heâll be okay. Weâll come back first thing in the morning. Bearing donuts and fresh coffee.â Because Vera and Myles were watching, Brooke added âBefore school.â Just because they were married now, didnât mean they could fall behind in their studies or grow up too fast.
After convincing Jake to take them home, Brooke climbed out of the behemoth outside of Jakeâs house. It felt kind of strange being back. Like, she didnât belong here anymore. Or maybe her house was just a reminder of what she almost lost. Which was her life, her memories, her family. âI should run in and get some clothes,â Brooke told Jake as they stood in his driveway. Myles and Vera had already disappeared inside. Vera mentioned making them something to eat and drink because they look famished. âCome with me?â Brooke pleaded as she laced her fingers with Jakeâs and looked up at him. Not that she expected him to let her out of his sight but she knew there was a strong chance he didnât want to go inside of that house any more than she did. âThen you and I can take a nice, hot bubble bath and curl up and watch a movie. Together.â
OPEN STARTER
Ever since that night at the warehouse, the last night that Tyler was presumed to be alive, Brookeâs been a nervous, bumbling wreck. She tried to limit her nightmares by reading remedies online of how to inspire more peaceful dreams but she occasionally woke up in a bone-chilling sweat, crying out for help which only concerned her newlywed; Jake. Because he was the one lying next to her, he was the one who coddled her back to sleep with what little safety his arms and sweet whispers could provide. Jake had been a great protector, phenomenal in fact. But, there were times (where even though she didnât want to), Brooke just needed to detach. In order to attend classes, or do normal activities that were expected and required of her.
Like going to school. The atmosphere was different, and heavier as the students of Riverwood High tried to wrap their heads around yet another tragic loss. Even though, Tyler wasnât the most well received person, his brutal death still affected the lives of so many. Both in good and bad ways. Some used his death as an excuse to skip class, while others figuratively popped champagne because Tyler had been so awful to them. Yet despite the torment that so many of her peers faced with Tyler, nothing compared to what Brooke and Jake and even her dad had went through. No one knew what happened that night except the three that were there. Brooke, Jake, and Quinn were the last three people to see Tyler alive. The cops didnât know that, their friends didnât know that, no one really knew that and no one could know. Unless, they wanted to become suspects in his murder case. And Brooke was confident she could speak for the three of them when she said that not a single one wished to wear an ugly orange jumpsuit for the rest of their life. Especially not for Tyler who was more inclined to kill them than they were to kill him.
If anyone knew Brooke well enough, theyâd see that something was different in the way she walked into school every day following the news of Tylerâs death. She traded in pumps for flats because the clicking of her heels that first day back reminded her too much of the clicking of the gun Tyler pointed at her and her loved ones. She was sensitive to sound and didnât like to be touched by anyone other than Jake. Even if it was a hug. Everyone elseâs hands just felt dirty and invasive on her skin and on her limbs. Sheâd rather her teachers, her friends, and her enemies keep their distance.
After leaving the guidance counselorâs office for mandatory grief counseling, Brooke stopped at her locker to grab her books for third period. The halls were empty aside from her small frame. Or so, she thought. From the corner of her eye, Brooke watched a shadow appear and then disappear in a flash. She gasped abruptly and slammed her locker door shut before holding her books tightly against her chest to take off down the hall towards the first busy classroom she could find. Whichever one didnât matter, she just didnât want to be a sitting duck for whoever was still out there, committing heinous crimes and ferocious murders. As soon as Brooke, rounded the corner, her body collided with that of another person. The impact caused her to drop her books and look up at them with tear stricken eyes. She wanted to cry because she just felt so helpless. Like sheâd never feel safe, fully safe, ever again. âGreat,â Brooke muttered, after wiping a small tear. She bent down to pick up her books while avoiding the other personâs eye contact.

INVESTIGATION #7314, Location: Sheriffâs Station      Â
PROFILE: Â Before we begin questioning, will you please state the following:
Name: Brooke Maddox Fitzgerald
Age: 16
Height: 5â˛1
Weight: 130lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Blonde
MOTIVE: Â Now, letâs begin.
Did you know the victim? âYes. We were ââ Thereâs a pause, as her hands fidget underneath the table. The word, she knows, will sound dirty leaving her lips. And she doesnât want to say it because itâs not true anymore but she has agreed to keep all intimate details of that night between herself, Jake, and the Mayor AKA; her dad, ââfriends.â
What was your relationship with the victim? âWe were friends like I said, who occasionally hung out. My dad and his foster parents used to get together for dinner every now and again to play card games. So sometimes, Iâd see him there.â
How would you describe the victim? Unhinged, psychotic, violent, angry, homicidal. Brooke knew these descriptions of Tyler were accurate but, wouldnât be acceptable when voiced aloud. There was no proof to back them up either, not without implicating herself or her loved ones who suffered at the hands of Tyler before his death. And quite frankly, it didnât matter now because he was gone. âLost, I guess.â
When was the last time you saw the victim prior to his death? âAlmost 3-4 weeks ago? He contacted me before I left town with my boyfriend, now husband, Jake. You know, just checking in. I didnât respond.â
Can you describe the victimâs behavior leading up to his death? Obsessive. Or so at least, thatâs what Brooke wanted to say. She felt bad for lying. However, had she told them the truth, they wouldâve suspected that she had something to do with Tylerâs accident. Or worse, they would have suspected that Jake did because he hated him. âI donât know? The usual. Heâs not exactly the friendliest person we all know. But, he was normal. All that was different about him were the rumors that he joined a gang. He moved away so he lost touch with a lot of us.â
ALIBI: Â Just a few more questions.
Where were you the night of the parade? âI was with my husband, Jake Fitzgerald. We got some weird texts from a blocked number about my dad and asking to meet up. It was stupid, we know that now. But, I hadnât heard from him in awhile so I was worried. Jake asked me to wait in the car and so I did. I really donât know what happened after that. But my dad, and Jake have already given their statements about this to the police. They could tell you a lot more than I could.â
Did you attend the party thrown on the beach that night? âNo. I was at the hospital with my dad and Jake. We never made it to the party.â
Did you notice anything suspicious? âNot really, no.â
Who were you with? âJake and my dad. And a few others we ran into at the parade. Friends we go to school with. Teachers, too.â
Can anyone confirm your alibi? âEveryone I just named. And the nurses and doctors at the hospital.â
@viraldoosh for honorable mentions.

âI think so,â Jake responded to Brookeâs concern. Though, he didnât know she meant physically until she began examining the back of his head where he had a lump the size of a golf ball. Still, it was nothing compared to his inner turmoil. He was afraid Tyler would be back to finish the job. Jake knew he was crazy but heâd never seen him without control. Tyler was savage. He was going to kill Brooke and himself. He had a gun pointed to the back of Quinnâs skull. He was obsessed with Brooke, which just made no sense to Jake because he never knew about their past until recently. France and then Pharm, it contributed to something inside of Tyler that made him lose it. He said Brooke led him on. All Jake could think of was the way Tyler had always been with Nina; to think of him with Brooke in that way made him groan. âThat wasnât Nina in the warehouse. Tyler tried to stop me from approaching the mask. Tyler looked scared.â Jake was searching Brookeâs expression for any sort of concern for Tyler, ââThose screams we heard could have been his. Whoever else was in there with us had on the killerâs costume.â Sinking into the chair, he sighed. Tyler had attacked the same set of ribs he broke before and they were definitely in a lot of pain and causing him to hiss. He couldnât help but to experience deja vu having to go into a hospital room for damage Tyler inflicted. âAre you going to come? If Tyler is looking for us, heâll know this is the first place weâd go. Heâll probably be rolled in here any second himself.â
Agreeing to be checked out was scary because Jake didnât want to stay there longer than they had to but after Brooke flagged down a nurse it was too late to change their mind. A wheelchair was rolled over and Jake was brought into the x-ray room to get his ribs checked before getting a CT scan on his head. âWhat happened to you guys?â asked the technician while Brooke helped tie Jakeâs gown. Quinn told them to cover up the story and Jake would continue following every single order until he learns that his daughter has gotten married behind his back. Knowing heâd be fuming, Jake was trying to be the man Quinn hoped for. âMy suegro was kidnapped. I donât know by who⌠I got hit by a car and everything went black. Finding him was dumb luck.â the guy nodded and walked across the room to lay out the sheets. âWhatâs the damage?â Jake groaned, lifting himself up to see. âIâm just the techâ, the radiologist will be with you in just a second.â Brushing past Brooke with a friendly smile, Jake extended his hand out for her to take and sit with him. âWe did it. We won. We just gotta stick together.â Jakeâs arm wound around her waist, âsomething tells me this isnât finished.â Taken off guard by the radiologistsâ entrance, Jake pulled Brooke closer. It was obvious they were both suffering from PTSD. And would both probably be put on medication for it. âJake Fitzgerald?â he nodded, âit appears you have two fractured ribs and a mild concussion. But the good news is, no permanent damage. Youâll be able to recover completely in due time.â Jake sighed happily, that was good news if he wanted to get back into sports. âBecause youâre a minor we had to call your parents, theyâre in the waiting room. So if youâll justââ Jake refused the chair to stand up but the guy insisted it was policy forcing Jake to take the seat. âThis is not going to be good.â Jake looked up at Brooke with worry in his eyes. Vera was going to be flipping out.
âMis bebĂŠs!â Vera cooed teary-eyed as she ran over to both Jake and Brooke with her arms held open. Even Myles looked worried, which was no easy feat. âWhat happened?!â Last Vera heard, they were at the lake house. She didnât even know they were back because Brooke and Jake planned to surprise her. âWe got some text. Thought it was Quinn, but when we went to pick him up someone attacked us. I donât know. I canât remember.â The radiologists clarified there would be some memory loss and that it was perfectly normal. Vera took Brooke into her arms and hugged her for a long while, whispering in her ear how much she loves her and how sorry she was to hear about Quinn. Myles was first to spot the rings, if only because he gave Vera that same ring twenty years ago. Instead of saying anything he just smirked. Myles had lived his entire youth on the edge, wondering if heâd ever jump. His son was just as bold and just as daring, and Myles didnât condemn him for it, he commended it.
Before they could make it to a nurse in search of some help for Jakeâs head and ribs, Brooke heard Jake out as he recalled what she missed in the warehouse. âGood,â Brooke shrugged. As far as she was concerned, Tyler deserved to be scared. He held the two people she loved most at gunpoint and threatened to kill them right in front of her. Why would she care if someone gave him a little spook? But then, Jake went on and she understood the point he was building up towards. It was possible Tyler had suffered an attack. Maybe by the killer. However, a part of Brooke didnât know if she still believed there was anyone else. Because a part of her still suspected it was all just a ruse or hoax to get her back. There was no proof that Tyler wasnât the killer. A person like him, an unhinged and deranged psychopath, didnât need a motive to kill. He did it just for the fun of it. Or when he wanted something. Maybe Alison and Jason and Weatherbee did something to tick Tyler off. Or maybe they had something he wanted. They already knew he was the one in the mask, terrorizing people around town. He broke Archieâs hand, Noahâs face, robbed Veronica, and so on and so forth. Sure, if the threat was serious. If something awful really did happen to Tyler, maybe then Brooke would feel bad. She wasnât heartless. And though, she hated him right now, that didnât mean she wished death or harm upon him. âLetâs just not talk about it right now,â Brooke insisted. She didnât want to have this conversation out in the open. Quinn asked them to keep the details under wraps and someone could overhear them talking and report it to the authorities. Sure, maybe Brooke was just being paranoid but she didnât want to take the risk and she didnât want to focus on Tyler when she didnât really care about him at the moment. Or really, at all. She cared about Jake and getting him help and making sure he was okay. Which is why she got up and forced him to get checked out whether he wanted to or not. While, the whole time she remained closely by his side.
After the exam took place, and they were both waiting for the results, Brooke allowed Jake to pull her in so she could sit next to him on the hospital bed. Their wedding band-hands joined together; one over top of the other as Jake whispered in Brookeâs ear about how they won and made it out alive. âI just donât want to lose you,â Brooke sighed as she considered Jakeâs suspicion of the worst not being over yet. As long as they stuck together, nothing could tear them apart. Theyâve been through hell and back. They could survive a few more storms (hopefully). Smiling with what little reassurance she still had, Brooke nestled closer against Jakeâs side as the radiologist entered with the results of Jakeâs tests. âThatâs good,â Brooke beamed. She was happy there wasnât going to be any permanent damage and that with some rest and medication, Jake would be back into less hectic action before they knew it.
âThank you,â Brooke whispered to Vera once, she and Jake emerged from the room and greeted both of his parents. They answered what little questions they could before Vera took Brookeâs hand and led the entire family out of the hospital, back to their car. âWhatâs this?â Vera felt the ring she gave to Jake in Mexico on Brookeâs ring finger. Brooke then turned to Jake with a smile and back at Vera, âAbout that.. We were hoping to surprise you. And wanted to do so under better circumstances. But.....â Shortly after Vera let go of Brookeâs hand and turned toward Jake, Brooke wrapped her arms around her newlywedâs hips, careful not to squeeze too tight or too close to his ribs, âDo you want to tell them, babe?â
liaroneill:
âFucking asshole, mother fuckers!â Tyler was seething as he squeezed out of the warehouse only to find out that Brooke wasnât waiting by his car. He didnât think sheâd be waiting for him, but he thought she might have been sticking around for Jake and Quinn where they left her. He didnât understand how it could be over between them. Everything she told Jake was a lie. It wasnât just the booze and drugs; there was something there since France. But, knowing they could never be together again because he ruined it, Tyler pulled out his cell to text the one girl who always accepted him back no matter what. (text to nina: that thing about mexico. Do you think youâd want to come with me?) as Tyler hovered over the send button, he held his breath and hit it without giving it another thought. He wasnât sure he could handle losing another person right now, but he had to do something. He didnât want to be alone and he didnât want the Serpents. Seeing the way Brooke was with Jake changed something in him. They were both willing to give their life up for each other. He knew that wasnât Nina, but maybe in time? (text to brooke: i donât know where to start. You said your piece. I know you donât believe me but) before Tyler could finish typing he felt a presence behind him. It was strong and eerie, like Eli. Slowly looking up, a face appeared in the reflection of the window. Â Having a bit of DĂŠjĂ vu from when Jake snuck up behind him, Tyler quickly dipped out of the way just in time for a hook to go through the hood of his Spyder. The masked assailant was having a difficult time pulling his weapon free when Tyler tackled him onto the ground and began pummeling every area of his body with bone-crunching punches. Â
Tyler wasnât sure if this guy was the real thing, but whoever it was, they followed him here. He had to know which one of his enemies had the balls to think they could kill him. Holding onto the ghostâs throat, Tyler grabbed onto the bottom of the mask and removed it. âYou.ââ dizzy with surprise, Tyler stood up and unlatched the hook from his car. Maybe this would be his redemption⌠âShould have stuck to the nerds.â Tyler raised the hook but hesitated in swinging it down. He wanted to be a killer. He should be a killer. But maybe he wasnât, maybe breaking hearts and arms was the only thing heâd ever be truly good at? In that moment of wavering, a long blade was thrusted up into his gut. âUggggh!â the hook fell as the energy drained from his body. The killer tossed Tyler off and put back on its mask. Raising its knife high in the air, it swept down to finish its prey but Tyler kicked it hard in the knee before rolling under his car and taking off on the other side.
Meanwhile; out front of the warehouse, Jake held onto Brooke as she locked her legs around his waist and showered him in affection. âIâm sorry, babe,â he breathed happily against her lips while his arms tightened around her waist; afraid sheâd float away if he let her go. âDonât you ever do that again.â Giving up her life wouldnât have saved them. Both Quinn and Jake would lose their willingness to live. Instead of letting Brooke go, Jake put an arm out around Quinn and pulled him in for a group hug. âTyler got out. Someone else was in there.â Jake breathed worriedly. âWe should get out of here, like now.â On the other side of the warehouse, the sound of glass shattered, following a few screams. âThat sounds like Tyler⌠Quinn, itâs a trap.â Jake assured him. Quinn looked like he was gearing up for payback but it wasnât worth it, not when they were all safe at the moment. âYo. You said protect Brooke and this is a part of that deal. Youâre coming with me.â Jake latched a hand onto Quinnâs sleeve and pulled, âLetâs go.â
Tyler made it through some brush and stopped just before the highway. (text to nina: NINA THE KILELER IS) before he could finish that text the killerâs hook frisbeeâd across the lot and went right through Tylerâs back with enough impact to make him spit blood. When his body dropped, he was wheezing but still alive. âStop. You donât have to do this.â Tyler wept as the assailant turned is body around to face the mask. âWe could change.â Blood splattered across the front of the mask as the killer started stabbing Tyler over and over again until his eyes went black.
In those final moments, the ones that led up to her staring death in the face, Brooke realized she still had a lot of dreams and hopes for her and Jakeâs future together. A future they only just begun. As traumatized and anxiety ridden as she was, Brooke allowed herself to feel happy and excited that Jake made it back to her alive. It was all she wanted. And almost losing him again, (this time; permanently) really put even more things into perspective. âI wonât,â Brooke promised as she grabbed Jakeâs face and kissed him with full force. She put everything she had into the kiss; her love, her passion, her desires for him. It didnât matter that Quinn was standing right there, watching them, visibly uncomfortable by the intense displays of affection. Brooke refused to hide her feelings for Jake any longer. She wanted everyone to know her heart belonged to him and it would always. Nothing could change that. Not even death. Her heart would still yearn for him.Â
With a soft grunt, Quinn was pulled into their embrace a couple minutes later. He would have otherwise gladly waited his turn but at the same time, knew moments were too precious now. And therefore, every single one must count for something. âSomeone like who? Nina?â Brooke questioned. It wouldnât surprise her if Tyler brought along Nina. She hated Brooke almost as much as Brooke hated Tyler now. She would have gladly jumped at the opportunity to scare the newlywed couple. If only to get back at Brooke for stealing away the object of her affection. âWhatâs that?â Brookeâs ears perked up, along with Quinnâs as blood-curdling screams echoed from the opposite side of the warehouse. Brooke, scared, clung onto Jake even tighter though she was now standing with her feet planted firmly on the ground.Â
As much as Quinn wanted payback and was prepared to go grab it, Jake had a point. And he was in no position to fight when he could barely stand upright himself. He was slipping more and more towards borderline comatose. Quinn was smart enough to know when to pick his battles. And right now, wasnât the time to pick them. Thus, he followed the young couple into Jakeâs truck. Brooke slipped in first and rode in the back so Quinn had enough room up front until Jake could drop him off at a hospital. Quinn, of course, would have rather recouped in his own home but Brooke insisted he get checked out and he couldnât say no to her. All it took was one pleading, puppy-dog eye look and he was putty in her small hands.Â
Shortly after Quinn was admitted into the ER, Brooke sat down with Jake in the waiting room after giving their statements to the police about where and how they found the Mayor which didnât include anything about Tyler. Quinn had asked them to keep the details to a minimum because he didnât want either of them to look guilty when the time came where he killed that sick son of a bitch for torturing his princess and her newlywed prince. Resting her head on his shoulder, Brooke held on tightly to Jakeâs arm while they waited to hear back from Quinnâs doctor, still too terrified to let go of him. Or let him out of her sight. And as expected, he felt the same way. âAre you okay?â Brooke wondered as she lifted her head and leaned over his lap to check the back of his skull where Tyler hit him and his ribs. The blood Tyler inflicted was beginning to dry up. âMaybe we should get you looked at, too. Iâll go with you.âÂ

Jake thought about not going into the warehouse, but the minute Brooke attended to Quinn, he knew she was safe. He had to find Tyler, not to kill him, but to keep him from hunting them down and slitting their throats when they werenât looking. If this didnât end now, Brooke would be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life. The last time Jake let Tyler get away with beating him down, Brooke pushed him away. He knew that wasnât going to happen this time, but that still stuck with him. Especially since Tyler used it against him by calling him a bitch. âThis isnât a game, Tyler! You wanted us out here! You got it!â Jake inched further into the darkness. Everything about this place was creepy. From the high-ceilings hung giant floats: the Grinch, Snoopy, and Mickey MouseâŚAll staring down at him with malice in their dark-eyes. And then there was the clowns, used for the carnival; standing there with their twisted grins. In the distance a couple of things were knocked over and a shadow passed through the Christmas decor. A reindeer was bumped into and lit up; its nose flashing red while it sung the classic children'sâ song: âRudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer.â The pulsing red glow was the only light in the entire warehouse at the moment. Flickering off and on as the eerie voice continued to sing. In the reflection of a fun-house mirror, Jake saw him. Tyler was wearing the mask again. Jake pointed the gun directly at the mirror but then heard Tylerâs laughter from the other side of the building. When Jake turned, the ghost was gone. Did Tyler bring backup? Feeling Tyler creep up behind him, Jake spun around and placed the barrel of the gun right between his eyes. But it wasnât Tyler, it was Quinn. Quickly, he lowered the pistol and sighed with relief. âYo, not smart sneaking up on me, man. God, youâre supposed to be with Brooke!â Jake seethed under his breath, trying to remain quiet , despite the anger boiling beneath his skin.
âDaddy!â the voice came before the crack! Quinn lumped over and Tyler emerged from behind him with a rusty pipe in his hands. He wasnât wearing the Ghostface mask and poncho, which confirmed Jakeâs suspicions that he had backup here. Most likely Nina. âYou kill him and Brooke will never forgive you.â Jake knew it was too late for forgiveness. Heâd never let Tyler back into her life or anyone elseâs. And, Tyler knew this too; which, is why he was still grinning. âIâm not as naĂŻve as you are, Jake. I know Brooke wonât forgive me. Like, you shouldnât have forgiven her. I know itâs not the sex⌠Sheâs good, but not THAT good. What has you tethered to her? Whatever it is, she has her fun abusing it. I know you think Iâm the problem but Iâm not⌠Brooke will always be Brooke. You heard her. She thought she fucked me⌠Guess it was good because she came back for more. Does that sound like she was sorry? No.â Jake raised the gun and instead of Tyler flinching, he placed it to his forehead and closed his eyes. âFree yourself,â was that going to be Tylerâs last words? Jake wanted to kill him. For everything he did and everything he bragged about doing. But as Jakeâs sweaty finger rolled over the trigger, someone else emerged. From the shadows, a tall stranger in a ghost mask. âFunâs over Nina.â the person didnât reply but Tylerâs eyes opened as he took in the third-party with surprise. He didnât bring anyone else. âThatâs not Nina,â Tyler turned back to Jake. Of course Jake wasnât going to believe him. But before any one of them could restrategize, a long shiny knife was pulled from the black poncho. Jake pointed the gun at the figure. If it was Nina, sheâd break character with a gun pointed at her head, right? âRemove it.â Jake meant the mask. However, this ghost didnât spook too easy, and instead of listening, it swung itâs knife. Stumbling back, Jake tripped over Quinnâs body and a shot went off. Tyler had vanished once again and the ghost went with (or after) him. ââQuinn, get up.â Jake nudged and pleaded, âQuinn wake the fuck up.â
While Brooke (for once), did as she was told and took shelter in the back of Jakeâs truck, Quinn went to search for Jake as promised. The creepy decorations as soon as he entered, hardly made the man flinch as he focused on walking in a straight, stealth line. Quinnâs head was pounding from the knots his captors inflicted upon his skull. He endured and suffered an incredibly intense beating for days on end. He was fed one meal a day just to sustain him and keep him alive until the ransom came in. The Serpents needed visual video evidence of the kidnapping to persuade Quinnâs team into wiring them the fast cash. Of course, Sierra McCoy denied the orders and as a result, the beatings escalated. If it werenât for Tyler swooping in and stealing him away to use him as bait for Brooke, he might not still be alive. Granted, that didnât mean Quinn would give the bastard a lick of his gratitude. If anything, heâd still kill him.
In an effort to grab Jake and push him out of the warehouse, Quinn snuck up on his newly minted son in law. But, it appeared all of his training had come in handy. Deep down, Quinn was proud though, his expression and demeanor neglected to show that. âNo,â Quinn corrected Jake, sternly. âLooking after Brooke was your job. And up until today when you brought her here, you succeeded. What the fuck were you thin---â Before Quinn could finish, he was knocked out cold by Tyler who hit him directly in the back of the neck with a rusty, old pipe. Quinn could still hear garbled voices but realized they were all in his head. He couldnât physically move. Not until he felt someone nudging him five minutes later. Groaning, Quinn opened his eyes only to see Jake crouched over him trying to get him to wake up. Though, his voice couldnât form words or sound (because his body was still waking up), his eyes widened as a figure appeared behind Jake. Instinctively, Quinn yanked the gun out of Jakeâs hands and shot at the mask. The bullet pierced through a mirror and shattered it and Quinn realized it was either a reflection in the mirror around them or a figment of his imagination. He wasnât sure which was worse. However, he knew they needed to get the hell out of there. That is, if they both ever wanted to see Brooke again. âHelp me up,â Quinn demanded as he held Jakeâs hand and was pulled up to his feet. He leaned against Jakeâs shoulder as the two of them rushed to get out. Tyler was gone. And ghostface was like a phantom. It was hard to tell if he was really there or not.
Back at Jakeâs truck, Brooke climbed into the backseat and was hiding on the floor, peeking out from the window when she saw her dad and Jake finally emerge. Filled with relief and excitement over seeing them both, she sprung up off the floor and spilled out of the Behemoth to run up and hug them. She started with Jake who she wrapped her arms and legs around as she jumped up into his arms. Quinn let go just in time so that Jake could catch her. âDonât you ever do that to me again,â Brooke breathed rasply in his ear as she kissed his neck and cheeks and lips, not even caring that her father was right there.

When Brooke demanded Jake stop, he looked up at her with tears in his eyes. He thought she was saving Tyler, just as he begged for her to do, through maniac laughter. Tyler reminded him of the Joker, laughing with a mouthful of blood, as if this was all some big game to him. However, something changed in his eyes when he saw the gun positioned between Brookeâs trembling hands. Would she really kill him? âBrooke, donât.â Jake breathed, exhaustively. If she killed Tyler, it would affect her more than she realizes. âDonât listen to him⌠Do it. Youâd absorb me. Iâd live inside you forever. In some, um, in some ancient tribes, it is believed that when you kill someone, theyâre reincarnated through your blood. That meansâŚwhen you have kidsâŚmy spirit would go into one of âem.â Tyler put his head back and laughed. It was all bullshit. He was making it up on the spot to scare her. However, Eli did tell him that when you take a life you absorb their power. It was how he was going to become King Cobra on the Southside, by killing Eli and taking his royalty. âBrooke put the gun down⌠Heâs baiting you!â while Jake was busy facing Brooke, Tyler reached for his neck and reversed their position. Like pharm, the elder took the upper-hand and began punching Jake in the ribs. After a satisfying crack, he leaned his mouth closer to Jakeâs ear, âsheâs just going to keep coming back to me. My power turns her on,â his tongue slithered into the shell Jakeâs ear and rolled around to violate him more than he already has. Filled with rage and disgust, but also remembering what he learned in MMA, Jake locked his legs around Tylerâs waist and torqued his hips to roll him over. When Tyler landed beneath Jake, he laughed again. âThe meathead has been working out? Good! I like a challenge!â Jake punched him again in the mouth and then came down on him with a hard elbow over the nose.
Tyler seemed knocked-out when Jake dismounted his waist and staggered over to Brooke to lower the gun sheâd been prepping herself to fire. âIf you kill him, he wins.â taking the gun from her hand, Jake looked to the trunk, and then around for the knife. âCut Quinn loose. Then get him out of here. Iâll take care of Tyler.â he placed the blade into her hands and sighed, âI love you.â he wasnât sure how this was going to turn out but he knew as long as he was alive, heâd love her. And just as she was willing to die for him and Quinn, he was willing to kill or be killed for her. âGo, Brooke.â he placed his hand behind the back of her head and kissed her on the forehead. When their eyes opened, Jake turned back toward Tyler but he was gone; there was nothing there but his blood. Tyler had limped back into the warehouse, leaking from his broken nose. He wasnât forfeiting the game but he was forfeiting Brooke. He was who he needed to be now. He was prepared to take a life. Whose didnât matter, heâd kill them all.
âI have to,â She cried in response to Jake as he pleaded for her not to. He knew what she would later come to realize if she went through with pulling the trigger, that it would have lasting effects on her psyche. Sheâd have to live with the fact that she took a life. But, wasnât it worth it? Theyâd both be free! Thatâs what the devil on her shoulder kept reminding her. And pretty soon, Tyler was repeating the devilâs words out loud. âDo itâ he goaded her. And oh god, did she want to. Brooke put the gun down⌠Heâs baiting you! She could hear Jake talking. She could hear the words he was saying to her out loud. But, her hands continued to shake as she held the gun. Jake, being so focused on her putting the gun down, lost focus of Tyler. And in Jakeâs moment of distraction, Tyler flipped the switch. He started pounding on Jake again and Brooke was hit with flashbacks of that night at Pharm. Growing angrier and more protective over Jake, her finger hovered over the trigger. She could shoot Tyler in the back and was more than prepared to, yet stopped when Jake regained the upperhand. Tyler boasted about enjoying a challenge and shortly after, Jake shut him up with an elbow to the face.
Frozen in place, Brookeâs hands kept shaking until Jake physically wobbled over to her and helped guide the gun back down. Taking her focus off of Tyler, Brooke looked up at Jake and nodded. She knew he was right and she trusted him. Thus, she let go and handed the gun off to him before wrapping her arms around him like he was a solider that had just returned home from battle. âJake,â She breathed with a sob as she clung onto him. She didnât want to let go. She was so afraid she might have lost him and vice versa. âWhat?!â Brooke inhaled sharply, panicked. Was Jake crazy?! No way was she going to leave him to handle Tyler by himself! He was ruthless. He had nothing to lose which made him incredibly dangerous. Not to mention, he was bloodthirsty. He would have gladly ripped Jakeâs head off the first or next chance he got. âJake no, please,â She cried. She shook her head and held onto the ends of his bloody t-shirt, âPlease donât leave me.â While closing her eyes, Brooke felt her lower lip tremble as Jake kissed her forehead. She didnât want this. She didnât want anything to happen to him. âI canât lose you, please donât do this. Please, please..â She continued shaking her head as her frazzled blonde hair fanned around her face and shoulders. She could feel Jake retracting while Quinn rolled around in the trunk. âWait here,â Brooke demanded him as she stepped away to pop open the trunk. She used the knife Tyler left behind to cut apart the knots tying Quinnâs hands behind his back and feet together. She also removed the contraption around his mouth that had kept him quiet. âThank god youâre okay sweetheart,â Quinn breathed a sigh of relief as he wrapped his arms around Brooke and held her tightly. He kissed her forehead and whispered that he loved her before he looked up to address his gratitude and other sentiments to Jake who was no longer there. âWhereâd Jake go?â Quinn wondered. âGod dammit!â Brooke cursed when she turned around to see for herself that Jake disappeared. âHe went after Tyler,â Brooke cried to her dad. Quinn bit his lip and rolled his shoulders, âGo to the car and wait there, kitten. Iâll grab him and weâll be right there.â Brooke immediately shook her head but not as if she was telling him no. She wanted Quinn to grab Jake before he did something royally dangerous. That was the only reason she even bothered to listen. Because she trusted her dad to bring her husband, her future, her forever, back to her. âPlease donât let him do anything stupid,â Brooke begged. Quinn nodded and took off into the warehouse with a limp in search of Jake.
