🕊️ Remembering Elijah McClain

Elijah Jovan McClain was a gentle soul, a 23-year-old massage therapist from Aurora, Colorado, known for playing violin to shelter animals and telling strangers they were loved. On August 24, 2019, Elijah was walking home when police stopped him after a 911 call described him as “suspicious.” He was unarmed, nonviolent, and simply wearing a ski mask to stay warm.

What followed was a tragic escalation: Elijah was forcibly detained, placed in a chokehold, and later injected with 500 mg of ketamine by paramedics—a dosage later deemed excessive. He went into cardiac arrest and died six days later in the hospital.

In 2023, two paramedics were convicted of criminally negligent homicide for their role in Elijah’s death. One police officer was also convicted; others were acquitted.

Elijah did nothing wrong. His life mattered. His story is a call to action, for justice, accountability, and compassion in every corner of our public systems.
