no for real. I have been consuming so much leno content because I am writing him on the regular and it is pissing me off how often I see him written or spoken about as this one dimensional stupid jock who is mean and bitter and jealous etc.
he is joyful and silly and energetic and so extremely earnest and emotionally intelligent and a motivator. in “drafting ryan leonard” on youtube he said “if people need to talk, i think im the guy they can rely on”. he also says it’s important to him to always do the right thing, when no one is looking.
i’ve seen him mention across multiple interviews how glad he is to be in school, how much he likes going to class, how he’s totally confident he will have straight As next semester, how he wants to complete his degree after hockey because his education and having something to represent himself after his career is important to him.
I despise the narrative of him just being a foil to the willmack of it all. he is thriving. he is wonderful. he is well rounded. I feel like I know far, far more about who ryan leonard is than I do will smith lol. and that’s fine, it’s absolutely will’s prerogative to keep himself to himself in the public eye.
but ryan is a delightfully charming and sweet open book for anyone with the eyes and ears to take him in.

Will started his first skating lessons at four. His mom, Colleen, put him there just for her wild little guy to have regular lessons.
It wasn’t until Bill’s good friend, Pat Hunt, asked him to play hockey in his backyard rink and swung by their home with a jersey that ignited the love for hockey for Will.
“He just turned five, and Pat asked him [to play], and he said, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah.'”

They started keeping scores and penalties from day one. He would skate there 5-6 hours a day everyday until he got kicked out.

When will had to pick the number for the Boston Junior Eagles, his dad told him that the best player for BC he’s ever seen was Brian Leetch who wore #2 at BC and all throughout his 17 years with the Rangers, where his number was eventually retired.
Football obsessed Will also liked the idea since he feel like it’s “a QB number”
Will didn’t always have the chance to have the no.2, so when the Sharks realized he wanted the no.2, it was his right away.

I’m also a hockey player, and I play for a team called the Sharks in California where I’m in my third year (I’m twenty-one). I’m a prep (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly baby blue. I love Zara and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a baby blue quarter zip with a matching snapback and navy blue shorts, white scrunchy socks and white dirty sneakers. I was walking outside SAP Center. It was warm and sunny so there were no clouds, which I was very happy about. A lot of brunettes stared at me. I smiled at them.
"Hey Will!” shouted a voice. I looked up. It was…. Macklin Celebrini!
“What’s up Mack?” I asked.
