Tanaya was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 5th, 1914, and grew up poor as an architect. She came to America in 1934 in hopes of a better life. Instead, she was abused physically and mentally by her adopted father, Anton Mercer, causing her to commit suicide. She was given Billy as a birthday gift by her adopted brother Dillon.
Tanaya told him everything about her. Where she came from. What the conditions were like, etc. Unfortunately, she cut out her own tongue on her 12th birthday in 1935. Because of the connection between the two, Mary Shaw believed the two would be good for eachother so she brought Tanaya back in the form of a life sized doll, giving her the new name of 'Tanaya'.

Soon afterward, Tanaya learned how to kill by watching Mary. Tanaya assumed that sense she was the only female alive in the Shaw family that it was her purpose to carry on Mary's legacy instead of her own. Billy taught her english and how to read and be a functioning member of society.
Durring this, Tanaya killed numerous people. Earning her the name 'the lady' sense no one really knew who she was. Tanaya built her own legacy through rumors of people who survived. The more she killed, the more she realized a pattern. She could take peoples grief and turn it into energy. She began to appear at random people's funerals to gather their grief, and this only raised more suspicion as time went on.
Tanaya eventually started producing her own music and performing in large name cities to get attention and eventually put a band together. However, the killing never stopped. She used these shows to her advantage. Mainly producing heavy metal and hard rock songs sense she could hit those low notes, she used the emotion that she created from crowds to fuel her energy. When the show was over, numerous people would turn up dead.
The power that she gained through these people eventually helped her out. Tanaya quickly developed depression and anxiety, and to combat this, she turned to heavy drinking. This caused a lot of bar fights. Many in which she lost. But the pain from the scars, stabbings, and getting shot by people and police never lasted. The energy she harnessed had turned her immortal. However, she still could be injured as any normal human.
