Itâs been eleven years since graduation from Lawndale.
Boston, Mass
âSo are you going to come?â Â
The sounds of the clicking from the keyboard of her typing away to finish a story before the deadline distracted her greatly from the call.
âHello, earth to Daria.â Jane called from the speaker phone.
âHmm, Yeah.. yeah Iâll be there.â Daria said as she continued typing. âJust give me the address and Iâll be there whatever time youâd like me to be there.â
A knock of the office door frame made Daria look up âHey, boss wants to see you.â A fellow writer said while walking by.
With a nod âHey Jane I gotta go, Iâll see you later tonight.â
âIâll call you later, so you donât forget, later Chicca.â
Daria hung up and continued typing before saving and rising from her desk. It took her blood sweat tears and odd jobs of writing to get the job she was dreaming of being a writer at a site. So much has changed in the writing world since the internet blew up. Paper was damn near dead, digital was the way to go.
Walking into the Bosses with a knock on the door frame. âYou wanted to see me?â
Josh was looking through the many stories and boards to publish on the site this coming week. It must be a tough but great job to be editor and chief.
Looking up with a half-smile âah Daria coming in and have a seat.â she did what she was asked. âHowâs the story coming along?â
This couldnât have been asked in an email Daria thought. With a nod âItâs coming along good, I believe I can have it donât by tonight.â
With a nod Josh rubs his strong jaw line with a sigh âGood, good.â As he considers his options of wanting to ask a question.
With a side glance âWhatâs up Josh?â Knowing his expressions better then she cares to admit.
He took another breath and looks eyes with her âDaria youâre one of my best and more or less favorite writers.â With a slight chuckle âDonât let Kyle know that heâd have a stroke.â Both have an exchanged smile. âI wouldnât ask if I had any other choice but Markâs flight got delayed in Moscow and he wonât be here in time to do an assignment that I want to use, heâs our main guy that writes reviews for these kinds of things.â Josh was about to ramble on about how stressed he was about the dilemma.
Daria put her hand up to stop him âWhatever it is Iâll do my best to fill Markâs shoes. Whatâs the assignment?â She wasnât much of a review writer but it was for the site.
With a relieved sigh âYou have no clue how much youâre saving my ass, Thereâs a new up and coming band playing in town; they know Mark was going to talk to them, so theyâll be expecting him but Iâm sure they wonât mind you. I mean theyâre from Lawndale like you.â
That peeked her interest âReally, Whatâs the name of the band?â
âMystic Spiral.âÂ
Surprised âoh..â The image of Trent flashes through her mind made her speechless. You never forget your first crush.
Josh was just staring at her waiting for a reply. He knew some history was there.
Speak you idiot
âYes I do know them.â
