This is my tenth year at Walden University; working on my 2nd Doctoral degree in Developmental Psychology. I wanted to share one of the last comments I made in a discussion group regarding children and parenting skills;

I have made up my own quote concerning parenting.

“Parenting is not for the weak or feeble-minded. “

While Art Linkletter—famous for Kids Say the Darndest Things—captured the humor, unpredictable logic, and lighthearted side of raising children, the phrase“raising kids is not for the faint of heart” or “not for the weak” shows up in a few distinct forms across famous literature and commentary.

Quotes That Capture the Truth About Parenting

Alfie Kohn (Author & Education Critic) “The bottom line is that raising kids is not for wimps.”

(From his seminal book Unconditional Parenting, cutting straight to the physical and emotional endurance needed to guide a child through long-term development.)

Art Linkletter (Broadcaster & Author) While Linkletter may not have used those exact words, he famously poked fun at how parents develop a thick skin and adapt as they go:

“Each generation has been an education for us in different ways. The first child-with-bloody-nose was rushed to the emergency room. The fifth child-with-bloody-nose was told to go to the yard immediately and stop bleeding on the carpet.”
