fuma is the most comforting boyfriend you have ever met in your entire life. he is such a patient listener. when you're stressed out and need to talk to him, you can expect that he's turning off his show and setting his phone on dnd so he can give you his full, undivided attention. he's never the type to give you advice when you haven't explicitly asked for it. he simply listens and validates your feelings, giving you loving reassurance.
however, when you do need advice… fuma is the best possible person you could turn to. he's always been mature and gentle with his approach to giving advice but with you.. he's even more gentle than usual. he would bring out that soft voice that sounds so loving yet serious at the same time as he talks you through your issues. he would be so cautious to avoid sounding like he's judging or scolding you. that would be the furthest thing from what he wants to do. he never wants to seem like he feels like he knows what's best simply because he's older than you, so he thinks carefully about his words before he talks to you. he never wants to make you feel childish for coming to him with problems or overwhelming emotions.
he is so overprotective of you. not in a possessive "i'll hurt that guy for looking at you" or "no you can't wear that outfit to go out with your friends" way but in a "hey actually let me carry that" when he thinks your bags are too heavy. or automatically moving you into the inner part of the sidewalk so he's closer the road. he's the type to notice you're cold before even you have the change to process that you're cold. before you even realize you're shivering, he's already reaching to put his jacket around your shoulders to rub his body warmth off on you.
he's also protective in a way that makes you realize how much he actually pays attention to your subtle cues and body language. someone made you uncomfortable? he notices immediately and makes an attempt to put himself between you and that person or he makes himself look like the bad guy by interrupting plans. he will make up an excuse for why you two have to leave early and he immediately checks on you once you're away from the situation. always checking to make sure you don't need extra comfort or asking if you want to talk about what happened.
he's the type of boyfriend who encourages you more than your best friend ever could. you want a bold new haircut? he'll set the appointment up for you himself. new piercing idea? he might be a little apprehensive about the pain of it but he will hold your hand when it's being done. talking about your goals and dreams? he's helping you imagine what life will be like if you chase those dreams. when your self esteem is low and you're doubting your abilities, you can always count on him to murmur reassurances and remind you how amazing you are. soft whispers of "hey, look at me. don't say such mean things about yourself" and little motivational speeches to help clear up your doubts and fears.
fuma as a boyfriend looks like matching pokémon house shoes. of course he'd let you have the sylveon ones even though he really really wanted those ones instead. however, he'd happily wear umbreon and stomp around gracefully and happily.
also matching pokémon onesie pajamas, too. and he would be way offended if you refused to match when his/your friends were in the apartment. he may be older than you but he would throw such a sulk party if you didn't want to put on your charizard onesie when guests were around.
movie nights always get him pumped up. he will serenade you and get you dancing in front of the microwave with him while the popcorn pops.
he is your number 1 supporter every single time. anything you do, you can one hundred percent of the time expect fuma to be bragging about you to his friends. anything you accomplish, he makes it the biggest deal and has to immediately update his friend group chat with "guess what my partner did this time" type messages.
he would tease you for using slang he doesn't understand. even though you could technically tease him for being old for not understanding, he would always use the slang words wrong and tease you for speaking a new language when you throw out some internet terminology he's never heard of before. he would eventually adopt your vocabulary though! you'd catch him unironically using a word you taught him and just have to give him a giggle.
he absolutely allows you to drag him into whatever new trend you find. he never complains because as long as you're with him, he'd do anything. new fashion trends, new exercise trends, trying new and trending hobbies… whatever the case may be, he's doing it simply because you asked him to or he saw you doing it and wants to be supportive.
he's such an attentive and caring boyfriend. he's very much an "acts of service" boyfriend. your phone is dying? he's already reaching to plug it in for you. you're studying or at work? he's a busy bee making sure the house is clean and tidy for your return so you can come home to a comforting and inviting space. he notices your water bottle is empty? he's already whisking it away to refill it with ice water without even being asked. you're in a rush because of a morning appointment? he's handing you a little bag of breakfast to eat on the way because he stand the thought of you not eating in the morning.
there are so so so many things i can say about fuma as a boyfriend. he is such a gentle and mature person, you can only imagine how that translates into him as a boyfriend. he admires his mother so much and he takes up so many of her traits, i think it's so so easy to envision what kind of patience and love he would show his partner. god i love fuma so badly and will genuinely continue to add onto this allllll day if i dont stop. ❤️🩹 i promise you i will do another boyfriend!fuma headcanon soon to continue this because there's just so much to be said about this man.
