I find it really funny that Rei just...forgot she was a woman. But then again she looks kind of disappointed soooo....🏳️‍⚧️?

Honestly even if this is not the intended conclusion you are meant to reach, I still find it kind of neat that Rei and The Founder have different gender identities. It just feels like a really neat twist on the whole amnesia trope. They say memories make up a large part of your identity, so it's not a stretch that Rei would feel differently about her gender. But then again she had to be told she was female by the angels. She accepted it easily but clearly she had no problem identifying as a man and probably would have continued viewing herself as one if she wasn't "corrected"
