Not here for much

“I’m here, am I not?”

Kat just tossed the clothes through the door to Zes's room. The hopes of sharing the room were put on hold when her parents went missing. Missing was a lot better than just dead, but it didn't stop her girlfriend from letting her deserved rage out.

I would like to have a word with whatever keeps trying to take away her well-earned hopes. First Sycorax, now this. Knelt was right, just let her do what she needs and be there to wipe the blood off after.

The room was quiet. Sounds of shuffling like Zes was getting dressed. "You're not asking much."

"I trust your ability not to get seriously hurt. I agree that those fools who messed with your family needed to pay in blood. I'm here for the obvious reasons." Kat just stood by the door. There was a smell from the room. It had blood of various species.

There was also the smell of Zes's blood. A large portion was cleaned. The smell was mixed with bile and other fluids. The residual smell that comes when an Irken molts.

It doesn't take a tactical genius to know the reason she asked for clothes of this size. Some say molts are triggered in hard battles, but not even the old medics understood everything. It doesn't matter.

The door opened, and out stepped Zes. She looked different. Still exhausted but taller. About seven feet, she ended up becoming. "Not even I expected this. Hey…"

“Why not? It suits you. I’ll trust you’ll let me and your uncle help you get used to this.” She only had the look of utter acceptance and adoration for Zes.

Someone like her doesn't need fate or whatever is pulling her apart. I know, so I'll pull her back up when everything wants her down.

"Probably after time away from this house to start with." It was understandable. The treehouse held a lot of memories. It was almost painful when the hearts of the treehouse were not there anymore.

At least that was the general thought until recent findings.

Kat almost smirked. “Well, at least help keep it clean for when your parentals come back.”

"Kat...Tak, what do you mean by that?" Zes asked. She was less tired and now at full attention.

She used my legal name. That’s a first.

Kat sighed. "There was a reported sighting. Well, more like a massacre. Your uncle probably would have come up with a way to say this gently, but I see no point in it."

She could see the thoughts running a mile a minute in Zes's head. Kat just extended her pak legs to help her reach her so she can hold Zes's face forward. So her girlfriend could look her in the eyes.

"I know you well enough by now. You had your toll of blood. I know you, Zes. You wouldn't let something like this keep you from the people important to you. So, I'll go with you this time. "

Zes had a bad habit of doing her tasks on her own. She knew she would just bolt again if she said the full story of what she learned about the hunters.

Zes just took a deep breath and put a hand over the one Kat has on her face. “Alright, but you know how frustrated I get with half of a story. I won’t run off again. I promise.”

A promise was all Kat needed. “The photos show a pak on the back of Seeker. It may be a Zib situation, but it means they exist. Then, when they telaported, the energy signature was that of most dimensional travel. It will be a needle in infinity. So, it won't be a problem for us then."

“Won't be a problem. I wouldn't be their daughter if impossible was in my dictionary." It was like a fire was lit back in her gaze. This time, it wasn't the fire of her anger that set her off when this first started. Now there was a determination.
