“THIS IS NOT A GRAFFITI”
by VLP
While also serving to promote a 10-part French web series by Effervescence and ARTE France, exploring urban art, this work asks some challenging questions. Retracing the evolution of street art, and packed with viewpoints of some of the biggest names in the game, the series explores often debated aspects of the sometimes decried, sometimes admired phenomenon, and the mirror it holds up to society. Painted in Paris at the corner of Rue Aubry le Boucher and Rue Quincampoix by Michel Espagnon and Jean Gabaret—the duo Vive La Peinture (VLP)—the work features the pairs iconic anti-hero Zuman. Born in 2000 at the hands of the duo Zuman uses thought bubbles to express his “doubts about the state of the world” and engage in dialogue with passers by. @vlpvivelapeinture/
