It's already Boxing Day so this is belated, but, to all of my friends on here: I love you all, and I'm very happy to know you. Seeing your posts always livens up my dashboard, and speaking and spending time with you all keeps me going.
This was going to just be a shallow "You're all great, merry Christmas" thing, but the more I think about it, the more I want to say. I'm ill. I have been for seven years now, almost eight. I've managed to stay positive throughout most of that time, and, hell, managed to become happier than I was before. And that's thanks to you all. Thanks to my friends, new and old. Thanks to friends who aren't friends any more, and friends who've been here for me even if I don't always speak to them often.
You're all amazing, and you're all so important to me.

Nickname: Daxolotl, Daxle, about half a million others my sisters call me, and one that I'm not saying.
Birthday: 12th of February.
Gender: Agender.
Sexuality: Pansexual.
Height:Â 5â6â, last time I checked.
Time zone: DST for the moment.
What time and date is it there:Â 14:41, 26th of September.
Average amount of sleep I get each night: Anywhere between 6 and 9 hours.
The last thing I Googled was: "Timezone in England". Shut up, I forgot the term for DST and I always get confused and think we're on GMT.
My most used phrase(s): "Fair enough", "What the actual fuck", "I have no idea how I just died." (For the latter - I play a lot of Diablo 3. There are a lot of bullshit deaths.)
First word that comes to mind: Cairo.
What I last said to a family member:Â (To my mother, as she was leaving the house) "Okay, bye!"
One place that makes me happy & why: Iceland. The entirety of the country of Iceland.
How many blankets I sleep under: Sheets and a duvet. No blankets unless it's bloody cold.
Favorite beverage(s):Â Tea. Orange juice. Cosmopolitans, Vodka and coke, Mojitos if they're well-made.
The last movie I watched in the cinema: I...cannot even remember. I watched The Lego Movie on the plane trip to Istanbul. Does that count?
Three things I canât live without:Â Internet access, glasses. Friends, if I'm feeling clichĂŠ.
Something I plan on learning: How to drive, how to travel alone.
A piece of advice for all my followers: If you have confidence issues, use joking faux-overconfidence to mask it. Long-term, it can help.
You all have to might like to listen to these songs: Glory and Gore (Trap Remix), Sigh No More, Down The Road.
Also, this Zelda Medley by Lindsey Stirling.
Okay, tagging Nanocyte, Kyzano, Ziplock60, and Dooowhacker.
"Rules: in a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Donât take but a few minutes, and donât think too hardâthey donât have to be the ârightâ or âgreatâ works, just ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends, including me so I can seeâŚ"
Okay, this is evil. But, I never got around to doing that Handwriting Meme you tagged me in (my handwriting is atrocious, for the record), so I'm going to do this one.
Don't take but a few minutes to decide? Okay then. Here goes. In no particular order:
1. Only in Death, by Dan Abnett
2. Lirael, by Garth Nix
3. Northern Lights, by Philip Pullman
4. An Inspector Calls, by J.B. Priestley
5. Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer
6. Necropolis, by Anthony Horowitz
7. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J.K. Rowling
8. Grim Tuesday, by Garth Nix
9. Mort, by Terry Pratchett (I know for a fact I'd love Terry Pratchett, if I ever read more of his books)
10. Homestuck Book 1, by Andrew Hussie? (is that allowed?)
10.5: Thomas and the Christmas Presents, by A. Vesey (It sounds bizarre, but that book fills me with a sense of HORROR).
That's more male-centric than I'd like. And unfortunately, I kind of skipped over my YA Fantasy stage, and went straight to fanfiction. I still feel like Ive forgotten one or two, though. So now, tagging. Feel free to ignore this, everyone.
Time for the first of the stories for the giveaway. This one is for Ziplock60, who asked for a story about an inept group of Dungeons and Dragons characters who enter a dungeon and proceed to get rapidly killed off. In the end, I got something less pure D&D and more "fantasy dungeon crawl with added violent deaths". Final word count: 1478.
The intrepid band take their first steps into a crypt. The leader, a Paladin by the name of Jorge, lights a torch and looks around. âThis looks like the place. Come on.â He leads them along a corridor, stopping at a large stone door. â...Inqueth, you still have that scroll from the den of sorrow?â The Wizard behind him nods and steps forwards, passing a scroll to the paladin.
Jorge gives his torch to the wizard in return, opening the scroll and holding it up next to a symbol on the door. The writings of the scroll and the symbol match almost exactly. âThis is it. Khadre, give me a hand with this door, would you?â he places the scroll back into the wizardâs satchel, readying alongside the dwarven fighter. In unison, they push at the door and it slowly begins opening. The two of them catch their breath, the paladin takes back his torch, and then the group storms the room.
Khadre is the first to speak. â...Itâs empteh.â Sure enough, the group was in a large, empty room. It seemed more like a cavern through here, the rock roughly-hewn. Nala signs something and the groupâs ranger nods. âLike Nala said. Whereâs the great treasure the scroll promised?â
âIt has to be here somewhere.â Jorge says, starting to walk around the room. âNo one could find this crypt without the instructions we got from the Voice of the Mountain.â
âIt is not exactly the best-hidden place in the world, you have to admit.â Inqueth counters. ââHidden under a great treeâ, perhaps. But that great tree collapsed centuries ago.â she shrugs. âThe power here may well have been looted long before now.â
âNo, no, it has t...â Jorge spins towards his allies. â...Werenât there six of us?â The group looks at one another, counting. They pause. âWhereâs Krysta?â
âDamn it, whereâd that Bard get to this time? Ay swear, if sheâs âentertaininâ the brothelâ again, Iâll...â Khadre pauses and looks down. There was a violin on the ground, in front of his feet. â...We mighâ have a bit of a problem.â He picks up the violin, gently. The wood was wet, sticky. He holds his fingers up to the torch. Blood. â...Ack, damn it. I liked that half-elf.â
âWhere did she go? What happened to her? What was in â Jorge takes a step towards the group, before hearing a sharp whistling noise. He stops in place.
Lenara walks over to the blade embedded in the wall. âHah. A pretty simple trap. But effective, by the looks of things. Weâre lucky it didnât hit any of us.â She glances over at the paladin. âJorge?â The human opens his mouth to speak, before falling over backwards. His legs fall forwards a moment later. âJORGE!â She runs over to the knight, taking in the sight towards her. âOh gods. Olidammara save us. What have we walked into...â
Inqueth looks around. A missing bard, and a dead paladin. Things werenât looking good. âEveryone, get back to the entrance. Something is happening here, and we need to get out, now.â Lenara picks up the torch, and the group takes off running. Four, where there had been six. They leave the room, trying to head straight back to the entrance. They get halfway there, when the ground beneath them collapses. The four fall straight down, landing twenty feet further down. The four groan in pain. Inquethâs ankle hurts; just sprained. Khadre, the dwarf, rolls over and rubs the back of his helmet. Nala slides off the wall, helping Lenara to her feet. She signs to the ranger, and she nods. âNala says she can see a path straight ahead of us. Thereâs no way back up that pit, but we might be able to find another way out.â
Khadre gets to his feet, shaking himself off. âYe okay, wizard?â The other two start stepping ahead, scouting out the pathway. The dwarf starts helping Inqueth to her feet when the upper walls of the room smash inwards, inches above his head. The two drop to the ground.
âDamn it, what sort of crypt is this?! Nala, Lenara, are you okay? Did ye..â he stops speaking when he notices the bodies ahead of him, the torch next to them. Inches above a dwarfâs head. Inches below an elfâs neck. He punches the ground. âGods damn it! Wizard, tell me youâre still with me.â
Inqueth nods, shaking. âI-I am alright. They...they said there was a corridor that way. We may yet find a way out.â The two set off crawling, no longer trusting the walls of the room. They pass the bodies of their friends, collecting their torches and continuing on. A few minutes later, they stand up in a new, open corridor.
âSmell that, wizard? Thatâs fresh air. Weâre close to a way out.â The two had been walking for close to an hour. Theyâd both nearly been killed by traps, but had managed to evade them with a mixture of Khadreâs reflexes and Inquethâs magic. The wizard smiles at Khadreâs words.
 âReally? We are close?â
He nods. âWeâre close. We just need to...â The two of them come to an open, stone door. âWeâve been âere. That means...â The two of them look along the corridor, seeing the pit trap in the distance. And if there was the pit trap, then that meant that across the trap...was freedom. They both start moving towards it, only stopping when they reach the edge of the pit. âThatâs a long jump. I dun suppose you know how to fly, wizard?â
She shakes her head. âNo. I have not yet learnt magic of that magnitude. We need to find another way across.â The dwarf draws his greataxe and throws it, the blade landing firmly in the packed earth at the other side, just beneath the stonework.
âIf you think yeâll fall short, aim for the handle.â She nods. It was a long jump, to be sure. But...their lives depended on it. âYou go first. Youâve got longer legs. If anyoneâs going to make it, itâs you.â She kneels down and kisses the dwarfâs cheek.
âThank you.â The wizard gets to her feet, stepping away from the trap, then runs full-speed at it. She jumps, soars...and falls short. She grabs hold of the axe handle, gasping as the landing knocks the wind from her lungs. She could do this. She brings one hand higher up on the axeâs shaft, then the other. She could make it. She grabs hold of the ledge. And she pulls herself up. She gets to her feet, looking over at the dwarf. âNow you! Come on, I can catch you.â She holds her arms out.
The dwarf blinks. âYou...I said to go! Ye donât need to stay for me, wizard.â
Inqueth snorts. âDwarves. The single most stubborn creature I have ever encountered. If you do not jump over, then I am going to come back there and carry you over myself.â
âNobody carries a dwarf!â He takes a few steps back, then runs at the wizard. He leaps over the gap, coming close, and landing squarely in her arms. She grabs him, pulling him over the ledge and on to the land.
âInfuriating. Come on. We can still get out of here.â
âInqueth...thank you.â The dwarf nods and smiles at the spellcaster, taking a step away from the ledge. His ankle is impaled, pinned to the ground, and he screams. Inquethâs eyes widen as she sees the creature climb from the pit, strange blade arms clicking dangerously against one another. It fades in and out of view, blending into the background. She steps away from the dwarf. âWizard!â She shakes her head, and the blades move closer to the dwarf. âDonât give it the satisfaction!â
She pulls out her wand of fireball, shouting the spell word, âIncendereâ as the creatureâs blades descend towards Kharon. The flame engulfs predator and prey, incinerating them both, and she turns to run. She turns to the exit, climbing the great stone steps towards the remains of the fallen oak. She pushes open the trapdoor, climbs into the sun. She keeps running, trying to get away from that foul place. She almost makes it. Blades stab upwards through the dirt. She leaps the first set. Then another set stab through. She trips, the blade slicing open the side of her leg. So she crawls. The next set of blade arms hit her in the stomach, hooking into her skin. More blades stab through to the surface, cutting through the dirt and through her. Sheâs dragged down into the nest. Her hands reach out, trying to grab a weapon, a tool, anything to help. Her hands wrap around a small piece of wood.
It hurts. But she raises the object, gripping it tightly. âDo not give them the satisfaction. INCENDERE!â
