We need to talk about Charmes.

It is singlehandedly my favorite thing to come out of Hadesgame.

Due to school, I haven’t had nearly as much time as I wish I did to write fanfics, but if you peeped in my earlier posts then you see I have one drabble for them written about a month ago. I fully intend to write very many more drabbles about them.

Send me prompts/headcanons/ideas??? That would ensure that more content comes out!!! Oh please that would be so fun!!!

I’m a sucker for edgy-quiet-person meets loud-bright-sunshine-person and then the ship from that. Fuck, this is such a hard ask to answer because I have so much that I want to say but I don’t want to make this one too long. I could talk for HOURS on Charon alone, let alone Hermes...

Here are some headcanons [Warning, some of these are a little NSFW. I’m trying to keep it pretty safe/clear tho]:

- Hermes has the speed of ... well, himself, and the horniness of his father. So even though he is canonically smol, he bottoms from the top. That’s just how he does. And Charon is more than happy to oblige and just let Hermes do as he pleases - basically Charon said “take me, u funky lil speedy man”

- Sometimes Hermes gets so blissed out that his wings flap and he floats up and away from Charon... and it’s Charon’s job to just patiently reach up and pull him back down 

- And that doesn’t just happen during the sexc times. Hermes just floats sometimes when he gets too excited or really happy. It’s gotten to the point where sometimes Charon will wrap a bit of scarf around Hermes’ hand to keep him at relative eye-level while they’re talking. 

- Same applies when Hermes gets angry. He floats up and gets red and heated and Charon just tugs on the hem of his chiton to remind him to come back down and relax. 

- Charon is honestly so soft when you think about it. Like he’s so in love with Hermes. It hurts me how much they love each other. Just imagine Hermes being uncharacteristically late one day and Charon is done w his work for a moment and just leans on his paddle, kicking pebbles into the river waiting for Herm to show up... man.

- Charon floats but not as high as Hermes. One time Hermes tried to lift him up higher and big stoic boatman got nervous ahhh so Hermes had to put him down T~T

- Sometimes Hermes floats too high up and Charon gets a full view of bare ass and he’s just like.... hhhnnngggh

- Sometimes Charon’s smoke forms lil hearts or exclamation points or question marks when he wants to engage in conversation with Hermes but doesn’t have the time to interject full hhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnngggggggh’s while Hermes is talking.

- Charon’s love language is quality time and gifts. His whole shop is just his love language to people. But Hermes in particular, he saves the most special of things for. 

- Hermes’ love language is touch, so he’ll float around Charon and brush his hand on his shoulders or sometimes just loosely hug him from behind... man.

- Sometimes Charon forces Hermes to take naps in the boat with him when he can tell Hermes has been overworking himself. It’s not even because Charon needs to sleep too, he simply has to hold Hermes down because Hermes is all fidgety and squirmy and won’t go to sleep unless he has that good weighted blanket feeling on him.

One word. Yes.

(Im not done eating my pasta yet so this might be incoherent but you have given me Charmes Thoughts).

The Underworld doesn’t run without Charon. Charon ferries the souls, he prowls the rivers. He’s the main source of income, the possessor of the most gold and riches just surpassed by Hades himself. Not to mention, Charon can be definitely more than stoic and frightening.

And we’ve seen it in his interactions with Hades. Let alone how he beats the fuck out of anyone who tries to steal from him. Achilles’ codex itself reads that Charon serves his own purpose, he doesn’t exactly follow Hades - merely cohabitates the realm.

All this to say - Charon would take NO shit about Hermes. Hades offers one disapproving word about the Olympian messenger, and guess what? Souls cut off for a week. Nothing in or out of the Underworld - then, when the deliveries come through, it’s time for Lord Hades himself to play catch up on a week and a half’s worth of work. Maybe more. And that’s just for disapproval.

Charon won’t sign any contracts. Charon can’t be stopped, even if one tried - what would they do without him? Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE knows that no one fucks with Hermes. Not a word, a peep, the lay of a finger or a sideways glance. Everyone in the Underworld knows Hermes is off-limits.

And not to mention, Charon considers Hermes just as important to his work.

And Hermes? Hermes is the god of too much to be neglected. Lies, thieves. Riches, messages, fertility, wealth, luck, language. Hermes, above all Olympians cannot be contained nor stopped. And he knows more than they think he does - hears it in passing, rumors. Whispers. A little birdie told him, you could say.

Hermes is similar to Charon in the sense that he’s a pipeline for power to Olympus. Displease him? He has the anger of his father, the stubbornness of him too. Hermes will cease all connection if he has to, disappear, make hell if he has to. If anyone can hold a grudge, it’s Zeus’ son - even more so than Ares, because Hermes clings to Every. Last. Word.

Charon and Hermes are happy together. They work well together. And Olympus and the Underworld know better than to meddle - the financial and situational decline would be too severe otherwise.

From time to time though, someone gets a loose tongue. Someone gets a little angry. And sometimes, Hermes ends up trapping one of his brothers or sisters or cousins inside a cursed urn, and when asked where they went? A simple lie, and from him, no one would know the better.

Oh, you.... you just wanted to jump right in to it, didn’t ya.

For those of you who aren’t sure what the ask is about, below are images of 3/4 view Thanatos and.... and then the Front-Face Than sprite.

Thanatos is... Um. *clears throat* you can’t expect death himself to be beautiful from all angles, can you?

Front facing Thanatos is kinda scary. His ears are quite large. His face is very triangular with a jaw as cut as the carrots I put my soup.

I feel like Brendon Urie with that hugeass 15-head forehead would be able to cosplay front-facing Thanatos really well.

All jokes aside though, I meant what I said about death being beautiful from certain angles, and terrifying from others.

The shadow of death is looming - people see the billowing cloak and the massive scythe from afar and they fear it; it’s daunting, a distant being with a weapon. You never know when he’ll come for you.

But once one gets closer and has time to consider, from the side, the profile, they see the soft expressions when he’s not looking directly at you. When one gets closer to death but isn’t immediately faced with it, it can be reverent and lovely in a very calm, very ordinary and acceptable way.

But then when faced DIRECTLY with it, it’s scary and ugly and seems like something entirely different than what you saw from the side, from a safe distance away when it wasn’t your time.

Clearly, I don’t think Supergiant intended for all that nuance. I think it’s a fucking hilarious, terrifying knockoff of Thanatos 3/4 view. But I like to get deep about things because regardless of what he looks like, I love Thanatos very very deeply and always will. My dumb little gremlin death god.

OMG i cannot believe I totally missed this message. then again, I’ve been sick for the past month so i’ve been a bit in and out of it lolol

and omg. appy juice. banned appy juice and the forbidden nectar. my favorite contraband. Then again, fermented appy juice is one step closer to an alcoholic beverage, so that’s actually not too far off hhhhmmmm

imagine u want to romance your boyfriend or girlfriend of multiple millennia after breaking their hearts trying to run away, and then you just pull up with a fine jar of appy juice. boom. sex.  

Hey Guys!!!

This is going to be a long post, but a long-awaited one as well, so please bear with me to read it (especially if you are following me).

I sincerely want to apologize for being gone for so long, and it’s been bugging me that I haven’t said why. 

So, as many of you know or remember, I posted VERY frequently back from about January - February/March of 2021. I have gained in that time 1000 wonderful followers, and I love you all so so so so so very, very much. 

But, sadly, in early February of this year, I suddenly vanished. I am here to explain why that is, in as much detail as I WANT to give (don’t worry, I don’t feel a need to be overly apologetic. None of what I’m sharing makes ME uncomfortable to share).

Okay just hear me out guys, I have scraps of an AU I want to write one day but I have to dump them somewhere or I’ll forget. These are not in order, these are the ramblings of a mad writer with an idea and no motivation.

I will try to organize them the best I can.

1. Thanatos/Zagreus/Megaera Household

Zagreus moves to this kinda janky 2 or 3 story apartment complex to live closer to Persephone, who lives in the burbs outside the city as opposed to his dad who lives in the business district.

Hades was like “Zagreus I forbid you from leaving this house” but Zagreus essentially said fuck u i have roommates and can pay rent byyeee

Megaera lives on protein shakes and protein bars

Thanatos forgets to eat

Zagreus eats rice krispy treats and mac and cheese

none of them know how to cook

2. Charon & Hypnos & Thanatos Household and how the Dionysus & Hermes Household plays into that

Charon and his brothers live in one apartment/condo.

Upstairs, Dionysus and Hermes share a place and there’s a party or all-nighter there no less than every other night. 

Dionysus and Hermes’ place is the one that gets noise complaints, obviously.

Hermes is that upstairs neighbor skit - “it sounds like a toddler the size of an adult man is learning to run up there” but it’s just Hermes with the nightly zoomies.

Charon and Hermes met because fucking HYPNOS couldn’t sleep, so they sent the scary Chthonic brother up to Hermes’ and Dionysus’ apartment to ask them kindly to shut the fuck up between the hours of midnight and 7 am.

And then Charon wound up bringing the loud zoomie boy home.

By that extent, Hypnos and Thanatos have to deal with Hermes stopping by at any and all hours of the day and night to vibe with his boyf

Charon trying to sleep while Hermes is staying over and wakes up at 3 am to Hermes running straight into the wall because he wanted shredded cheese from the fridge but forgot it wasn’t his house

Charon tries to sneak melatonin gummies into Hermes’ food so his brothers will stop getting annoyed that he’s so loud.

Charon: “pspspsps u want some cheese?” peeking under the couch at hermes, who has once again separated the melatonin gummies from his food like a cat and now has night zoomies

And Hypnos has a good temperament but behind that smile he is SO close to stabbing someone for some good sleep.

Hypnos has some very nice headphones to block out any Charon/Hermes NSFW sounds, but Thanatos just curls up in his room and pretends the walls aren’t so thin

Sometimes Thanatos goes to stay with Megaera and Zagreus down the hall because he just - he can’t.

3. Patroclus/Achilles Household

Patroclus and Achilles are the cute husbands who take care of all the small idiot kids and make treats for the new tenants. Genuinely delightful people.

Honestly very little drama here. They are very sweet.

4. Asterius/Theseus Household

Asterius and Theseus are the “no homo, we’re just roommates fr fr” pair

and they were roommates

u know they pining

Despite insisting on the bromance, they still have competitions with the other husbands, Pat and Achilles

“ASTERIUS, ACHILLES IS MAKING TREATS FOR THE NEW TENANTS. WHERE ARE OUR EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS”

“they are in the oven, king”

“THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. WE WILL NOT BE OUTSCHOOLED BY ACHILLES. HE IS NOT LIT.”

“be patient, king. the bread must rise.”

“king - king don’t touch the hot pan”

when they first moved in together, Theseus’ entire pantry was hot sauce and cheetos

Asterius has a “kiss the cook” apron

5. Others I guess LMAO

Ares and Aphrodite share a place and they’re always fuckin or fightin so they’re loud too

Zeus is the asshole landlord who always hits on the female tenants

Poseidon is landlord’s brother and another tenant for some reason, who tries to relate to everyone or act like the cool father figure and no one knows whether to be creeped out or totally chill w him

Artemis is active tenant who never talks to anyone and is always outside doing shit and not at home. Sometimes brings back animals which aren’t allowed in the building but Zeus makes some exceptions

Athena lives on her own too but she’s genuinely hardworking and busy so no one even notices

Nyx and Achilles are the only ones keeping the ThanZagaera household alive

Skelly is the apartment security guy/maintenance man who lowkey highkey sells drugs and does sketchy shit on the side but is genuinely such a pleasant guy

Sisyphus is that guy that lives in the basement, also a maintenance man, and he has a pet rock

I love him

Eurydice has the patio space with plants and is always heard singing the prettiest songs while she waters the plants

Orpheus lives with her of course, but they argue a lot and are broken up half the time and then sing more

1. Achilles

Hypnos had waited long before this moment to turn around. It was ironic that something of his own doing had been plaguing the House for such a time, and yet he had not felt the need to bring it up until now.

It was rare for Shades to sleep, especially ones who were on duty. But since Zagreus had started going out into the realms so often, it was not necessary for Achilles to be at attention in his post forever. The Master of the House had hardly noticed when Achilles would take slips into other rooms, or would retire for a little while when he got bored of the West Wing itself. Hypnos had wondered if he would pick up one of Orpheus’ discarded lyres one of these days, but found it to be only wishful thinking. Achilles would likely not press what little freedom he had.

It was when Achilles had actually gone to sleep that Hypnos first began to worry. The Chthonic God wondered if he should mention something to the Shade’s Prince and ward, but had decided against it for a little while. Cruel as it was, Hypnos craved a little entertainment. So instead, he watched carefully, curious as to where this would lead.

And ooh, I love a lot of things about Thanatos! I’m always one for the edgy busy bois lol.

I have two favorite things!! The first one is his VOICE!!! The first time I heard it I had to pause the game because I was so shocked. It’s... rougher than I expected? Part of that is because of the sound design of the game which I could totally get in to on a whole other post, but Thanatos’ voice in particular has the capacity to be so smooth and yet has that little hitch in it that makes me crazy. It’s like the rumble of a voice when you’ve just woken up or are just about to fall asleep. Very comforting and sexy, makes me want to rest my head on his shoulder...

Second thing has to be the fact that Thanatos is actually incredibly shy??? He’s so distant and removed and just BUSY that he hasn’t had the time or the need to really incorporate all the social skills like Hypnos and Zagreus have for example, with their familiarity in the house and around random shades to converse. Thanatos has the politeness that Zagreus has, probably taught to them by Nyx, but Than is just... shy.

Honestly I love this in the context of ThanZag. Thanatos isn’t used to compliments - people don’t take kindly to death, no matter how handsome he may be. So he’s not used to being dealt with tenderly. And until Zagreus gets more and more intimate with his gifts and apologies, Thanatos doesn’t really know that there’s potential for that tenderness in his immortal life.

When Zagreus compliments Thanatos, without fail Than will look away or cover his face or put his hood up, ANYTHING to hide the reaction he has. And Zagreus at first finds it soft and cute and tries to ease him in to it, knowing Thanatos hasn’t been close with anyone before. But when it doesn’t let up, Zag realises this is just - a thing, Than’s thing is that he’s painfully shy. So Zag gets right into affectionate teasing and spoiling just to see him blush and flustered.

Also - quick last thought... the ship with Zagreus and Thanatos is so beautiful to be honest. Like - Life and Death? It’s so lovely from a poetic standpoint. But here’s the other piece to it - Life loves Death, and Death loves Life. They are incomplete without each other. One cannot ultimately fulfill their life if it has no ending, and one cannot have peace in death unless they lived in the first place. Isn’t that so pretty?

That reminds me!!! I read this WONDERFUL oneshot by @kipli called “So Much Else” that was along these lines of life/death poetry and shy Thanatos feelings - and it’s smut but it also made me cry????? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go read it, I love it SO MUCH. It’s definitely a favorite and a must-read for all Soft Thanatos lovers such as myself...
