Ventriloquism - a Spiritomb AU of Masking/standalone inspired by Masking. Alpha makes a mistake when trying to collect Ingo's soul. He becomes a Spiritomb wisp and is collected by Rei.

Concave Mask - Legendary spin-off of Masking. This fic would explore the theme in Masking about what a ghost is and the dealignment between Ingo's body and soul by Ingo becoming a new Pokémon.

Level Dependence - Zorua spin-off. Rei catches Ingo as a Zorua during their first encounter.

Risk Aversion - No illusion spin-off. Ingo decides not to try to return to being human. Emmet goes back in time to search for him, not knowing Ingo is a Pokémon.

Flicker Task - spin-off oneshot. What if Ingo told Emmet he was a Zoroark before the ghost train reveal?

Phantom Limbs - trans AU!

Chronostasis - No time travel AU. Ingo stops aging like a human and finds Emmet again in the future.

Spectral Asymmetry - supplemental fic to Destructive Interference explaining N's story.

Flash Lag - AU going off one of the original plans for Masking: Emmet and Elesa are reincarnates of Ingo's Zorua siblings.

Temporal Averaging - sequel to Masking featuring things commenters said they want to see, like Ingo adapting to the modern world.

I am very excited to announce I've started posting a new longfic!

It's titled We're Not the Monsters of Your Dreams. It's a monster AU of Pokemon Legends Arceus where I use The Deep Forest (a worldbuilding ttrpg about a group of monsters decolonizing their home) to show Rei and Akari exploring a very different Hisui, questioning and redefining what it means to be human, and fighting to protect the region from the Galaxy Team.

This is also a submas fic so the hope is to eventually have the story about Emmet in Legends ZA.

I started writing this in 2023 immediately after finishing Masking (my Hisuian Zoroark Ingo fic) and I have a lot of it prewritten so updates will be regular at least for now.

Quick summary of what was revealed in chapter 13: Ingo's Zorua siblings from Hisui were reincarnated as N and a Unovan Zoroark in modern times.

The in-universe explanation is basically just that sometimes Zorua spirits don't want to die and Ingo's Zorua brother and sister weren't done being part of Ingos story.

The real explanation is far longer.

Initially I was going to talk about this in Boss, Warden, Alpha (the unused but still posted epilogue where Ingo writes a memoir about the events of Masking) but I started writing Destructive Interference before I posted Boss, Warden, Alpha so this little detail was edited out:

Originally Ingo's Zorua brother was going to be a past incarnate of Emmet and Ingo's Zorua sister was going to be a past incarnate of Elesa.

Only two people have noticed this so far! I mostly edited it out of Masking but there are a few lines in the early chapters, especially chapter 1, that referenced this. The main thing that remained is that Ingo's sister/not-Elesa-anymore/Theta prefers to disguise herself as an Electric-type (Luxray) but there are a few other details intended to be foreshadowing were left in.

Note: Destructive Interference is a spin-off so Runt and Theta are not Emmet and Elesa or N in Masking. The timeline doesn't make sense for that.

To lay it out a little more clearly:

In Masking, Runt's ghost/soul (ghosts and souls are not the same thing in this fic but for convenience let's say they are) was taken from one of Lady Sneasler's kits. He goes to the modern world and was not further reincarnated. Ingo's sister's ghost/soul was taken from an Alpha Luxray. She remained in Hisui so it is still possible for her to be reincarnated as Elesa but I've never touched on this and don't plan to.

In Destructive Interference, Runt is a Sneasler kit turned Hisuian Zorua turned N. I never address if N is a Zoroark disguised as a human or not but it is implied that his past life as a Zorua is the reason he can understand Pokémon. Theta (Ingo's sister) was an Alpha Luxray turned Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark turned Unovan Zoroark. It is implied that N and Theta were reborn in modern Unova through "regular" means of reincarnation.

The original version of Masking had Ingo's Zorua siblings be "new" ghosts/souls. When they died in Hisui, they were reincarnated as Emmet and Elesa in modern Unova. I decided not to stick with this idea because I thought it was too complicated and would distract from my original intention with Masking (to explore how Zoroark illusions work but I gave up on that like halfway through and no one cared anyway).

I'm thinking about eventually doing another spin-off where I write out this idea of Emmet and Elesa as future lives of Runt and Theta but I don't want to commit to anything.

But back to Destructive Interference, it does seem kind of random that N and his Zoroark friend are Ingo's siblings and they're not in the fic for very long. This is intentional. Sometimes there are just regular people in stories that aren't main characters but affect the plot. Arceus just thought they deserved to know where their brother ended up and sent them to the future.

Runt and Theta totally could've been Emmet and Elesa in Destructive Interference but the appeal of the fic is waiting for Emmet's reaction when he learns Ingo is a Zoroark so if Emmet was also a Zoroark, I don't think it would be as satisfying.

I started this fic immediately after Masking, intending to write a similarly themed fic to keep my readerbase, but I kind of lost the plot, rediscovered it, got lost again, and found it again. I mentioned it like once before, estimated 115 chapters and around probably like 300K+ words when it's done so I want to get a lot written before I post it so I don't abandon it.

…but it’s string of consciousness because if I save it to edit and format later I will forget to post it.

I don’t think I’ve talked about my irl life on this blog but I am a full-time student with two part time jobs and two internships so I am a busy boy. One of the jobs is new, started this month, so that’s eating into my free time that I wasn’t using to write fanfic anyway so not writing fanfic feels different even though it isn’t. The new job is writing related though and so are my internships, so I am writing, just not fanfic.

I decided to take a short break from fanfic while doing that but my Spring break is coming up at the end of the month so I plan on doing fanfic-related stuff there.

Destructive Interference will probably be finished by the end of the month. I need to edit chapter 14 then chapter 15 should be the last one, unless I spill over into another chapter. I simultaneously don’t want it to end and very much do want it to end.

I have a lot of Masking stuff I want to write but it probably won’t be posted for awhile. I don’t like posting wips and I think DI suffered in quality because I posted it too soon. I might post some stuff here on tumblr about what I have planned though just to see if there’s interest.

When I first posted Masking, I had an unrelated but thematically similar fic that I planned on posting immediately after but I didn’t like the ending so I just kind of ignored it for about 9 months. I recently figured out how to fix it and there are now at least 120 planned chapters.

And not even in a “oh no, my plans got away from me, this is too ambitious” way. 120 chapters in a “this is well planned in a way that will not make me lose interest and also has breaks for me to not get burnt out” way. So I’m going to be working on that. Won’t be posted super soon but we’ll see. It’s super cool and I know you guys will like it.

Roughly I’m planning to post the new fic when I’m done with the first 60 chapters. Very different style than the submas stuff I’ve written do far though so it shouldn’t take as long.

I also don’t really want to go back to the summer job I had last year and I’m trying to find something else but right now a lot of my fanfic plans are I’ll do that in the summer.

Next month my class schedule changes. I have rough plans for what that means for fanfic stuff but no hard plans so I’ll try to remember to do my monthly update next month.

I have a list of Masking stuff I want to do and I thought about just posting the list but I don’t think I will. When DI finishes, I’ll probably ask what you guys want to see like I did for Masking. You guys wanted a sequel to Masking and I sort of planned one out but I’m not super passionate about it and I don’t want to force it.

The list has sequel stuff but also more spin-off/au type of things. A lot of them could work as oneshots or short installments so even if I do take a break I’d probably still be doing something.

My concern with taking a break is that I will lose interest but I am very busy irl so I am making myself not write more fanfic for the next couple weeks anyway, we’ll see how I feel later.

Oh and like I’ve said before, I think future multichaps will only get posted when they’re completed. I don’t like that I posted DI while it was a wip, I always regret doing that.
