Zerg Files: Meeting the Hydralisk
Stetmann stepped into the  one of the biological holding cells a board the Hyperion expecting to have a few Zerglings waiting for him along with Kerrigan. Instead what he got was Kerrigan seated waiting for him and curled around her was a large Hydralisk.
“Th..that is not a Zergling Kerrigan.”  He stammered backing up against the wall as Kerrigan tapped the Zerg on his back and it unwound raising itself to its full height.
“You’re right and I was going to bring the Zerglings, but she just seemed so interested in seeing where I was going I decided to bring her instead. “
“How do you know it’s a she?” He asked forcing himself away from the wall to begin his notes.
“Because nearly all Zerg in the Swarm are female Dr.Stetmann, Zerg don’t reproduce sexually so there is little need for two biological sexes.”
“But there are male Zerg?”
“A few yes, but they're normally just created for special occasions. Males are smaller less aggressive  and in the case of the Hydralisks the male  actually have a shorter range of fire when it comes to their spines.  The two most prominent male Zerg in my Swarm are Abathur and  our newest field test, a male Ultralisk we call Spike the Microlisk.”
Kerrigan ran a hand along the Hydralisks crest the creature making soft noises of content, she beckoned Stetmann over  and slowly, ever so slowly he began his approach.
“Don’t worry she’s a Queensguard, so as long as I’m not being threatened she should be fairly docile.  Hell she’s actually one of the more friendly ones.  Here put your hand out.” Kerrigan instructed  shifting positions so the Hydralisks head was resting over her shoulder her hand wrapping under its chin.
Stetmann extended  a hand as if he were approaching any other  animal for the first time. The Hydralisk sniffed at the appendage and he almost instinctively pulled his hand back  when the Hydralisk began to shift closer to it.
“Go ahead Stetmann, touch her.” Kerrigan urged. Stetmann hurried reached forward and touched the Hydralisk’s crest.  The Zerg initially made a  hissing noise but when met with a reactionary hiss from Kerrigan the Hydralisk calmed.
“See not so scary when they’re behaving are they.” She cooed at the creature affectionately and Stetmann couldn’t deny that like  this the Hydralisk was almost no different than any other dangerous animal in captivity.
“Alright Kerrigan how about for the next test  we move her to firing range.” Â
