they were meant for more than the circumstances allowed. she knew it in the depths of her soul. the way they fit together so seamlessly ( ever since they were young kids running around on the playground ), his love warm and safe unlike anything else she thought she’d experienced. he made her feel whole, a permanent smile etched on her lips whenever he was within reach — always aching for his touch in the most innocent ways. don’t let go. wanting to stay up all night and memorize the constellations on his skin. but reality didn’t seem to agree with the pair, aiming to pull them apart and proving to win the battle as they faced the biggest test of their relationship. “what do you want me to do, tyler?” exhaustion is evident in her voice, eyes wet from the tears that have been streaming down her cheeks, sticking to her skin like hot glue. they deserved more time. they deserved to give this a real shot, explore every possibility — make sure they were secure in what they had before dealing with a move to another country. “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” she tries to reason with him, though it’s hard to get much out when her throat is on the verge of closing up. a hand reaches for his, fingers interlocking as she takes a deep breath, determined to shake away the tremble in her voice. pull yourself together, whitmore. “i love you. you know i love you.” it sounds so minuscule now, almost irrelevant. she hates seeing him torn up, in pain.. all because of her. “if it was up to me, i’d take you with me, but i can’t just expect you to put your life on hold. i’m not gonna be that girl.”

you deserve someone who makes you happy. the words echo through his ears, piercing, almost comical coming from her and he has to bite his tongue — refrain from spewing the sarcastic remark that hangs over his lips because it’s harsh, probably sting worthy if he really allows himself to be honest with her. wes hasn’t known happiness his entire life ( not that he’s ever actively tried to be more than a brooding bad boy ), accustomed to the void carved in his chest, floating amongst people with no real sense of direction. he was perfectly fine living in his own grim reality until she came along, sunshine leaking from porcelain skin and suddenly he had purpose. she was the first person who made him feel. the guy who had absolutely no regard for others or even himself at times cared about a girl and not just any girl, the model girl destined for ivy leagues. he doesn’t think she can fathom the impact she’s had on him, otherwise she wouldn’t be sitting here, telling him what he deserves when everything he’s ever wanted is right in front of him. how can someone be so fucking oblivious? “right.” he nods, a scoff slipping between the cracks despite his efforts to remain stoic. she always did bring the emotion out of him, mostly to a fault. “‘cause guys like me are meant for happily ever after.” self deprecation has always been his strong suit, brushing his bubbling anger underneath the rug — the fact that she’s crossed off with yellow police tape doesn’t help his cause. he’s at his wits end, as if back to square one and it’s pissing him off. standing up from the seat he occupies, his legs begin taking strides towards the exit before offering his final two cents with a dismissive wave. “save the bullshit for someone who’ll actually buy it, peralta.”
